I'm getting a new one (long story).

I'd like I white gold, solitaire, round on a very simple and slim ring. I was thinking 1/2 to 1 carat (max)

Can you show me yours for inspiration and, if you don't mind, the size of the carat to give me perspective.

I tried on a vintage one that was beautiful, thinking it was the perfect size, turns out it's 2 1/2 carats.....Grin

Mine is a 1.3 carat diamond on a platinum ring.

That's beautiful - congrats - I've been married 25 years so I'm going to suggest nearer to the 1 carat for good service 😀 beats a carriage clock...

Definitely beats a carriage clock! Where are you looking for one? Vintage you tend to get better value for money so might be worth looking. Mine was new though - from 77 Diamonds which I’d really recommend.

Here’s mine. Princess cut on 18 carat yellow gold.

1.5ct rose gold, vintage. I know you want white gold but posting for size reasons! My wedding ring is white gold, 2mm wide, to give you an idea of the band size of the engagement ring.

Mine is 0.85ct round. I've got quite small hands so wanted a dainty thin band. I know you want simple and mine has diamonds on the shoulders but good for size

Not sure why the pic didn't attach! Try again...

@TreesAndStuff aim high!
I got upgraded to a 2.5 carat for twenty five years, which was a clever idea, I’d never have thought of that. 30 years next year and I have been warned there will be no 3 carat forthcoming, how disappointing, I thought it was a thing now 😂😂

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 09/03/2021 11:41

If you’re buying new, going just under 1 carat will be much better value than getting 1 carat or more.

Here’s mine, 0.8 carat.

They're all so lovely and look as big as this antique whopper - maybe the carat doesn't always dictate that actual measurement? Maybe it's the mount.

I had 0.25 before and it was on a high mount and looked nice - just a bit diddy.

It’s the weight isn’t it, so for example a ‘deeper’ stone would look smaller around, and a shallow stone might look bigger from the top.

MrsBDarcy · 09/03/2021 21:27

I love love love a diamonds thread. It's my 20th anniversary this year and might get myself one but more like a 0.8
Keep the pics coming !

happymummy12345 · 09/03/2021 21:40

We didn’t buy any of our rings. The reason being my 3 rings are all heirlooms from my family (wedding ring was my great nans, eternity ring was my nans and engagement ring was my mums). I was more than happy to have all 3.
My husbands ring was a ring he’d had for years but never ever worn. He was happy to have that as his wedding ring.

I love these threads, I just love looking at jewellery in general.
Mine is a 2.04ct princess cut on platinum, it's 8mm square.

Pretty sure mine is less than 0.5, and I think less than 0.4 though I'm not really sure. Seems like something I should know. Platinum bands.

Love your rings, happy mummy.

What pretty nails you've all got!

BungleandGeorge · 10/03/2021 00:09

You can make a diamond look bigger by compromising on cut. I’d go for good cut and good quality diamond over size every time! It’s the sparkle (outside the jewellers!) rather than the size that is stunning

If you want the best bling for your buck then you can go down the colour scale easily and also the clarity . The human eye is unable to detect minor differences in these . Cut is essential to consider as that is what gives it its sparkle . I love a good size carat and you can get that if you take the above into account . It's good to get advice from a jeweller who really knows their diamonds. All of the above was said to me by Tiffany who matched me with two near identical 1 carat each earrings .
minniemoocher · 10/03/2021 10:59

@bjjgirl

Had to smile at that. Still trying to work out what to do with mine, all amicable so selling seems wrong
