Getting fixed braces tomorrow morning! I had thought about Invisalign but the orthodontist said it would take 18-24 months but fixed braces I'll be done in 12 months

Best of luck! I had fixed braces in my late 20s, best money I ever spent 😊 The time wearing them flies by.

Ahahahstop · 03/03/2021 20:23

Thank you! It's my birthday tomorrow too so I'm hoping that by next birthday they will be gone and I'll have lovely straight teeth

I had mine 4 years ago, for less than a year. I’m really pleased with the results. I never got used to the brace, even though they said I would.

Easterbunnygettingready · 03/03/2021 20:27

Had mine off a year.. And now they are covered with a bloody mask most days!
I am 49. Never too old!!
Good luck op!

I'm in braces right now. It's so worth it!

Did you do those 6 month smiles or proper ones that just happened to take less than a year?

Yes OP! I'm on Invisalign aligner 17 of 24, and I'm so glad I did it. Fucking expensive mind.

I didn't go with Invisalign in the end but they do look much nicer than the train tracks I'm getting!

Do keep us posted op! I'm due to have braces mid April

Yeval · 03/03/2021 20:38

Yeah, it's swings and roundabouts. The annoying thing about Invisalign is that you can't eat or drink anything except water with them in, and you have to wear them for at least 20 hours a day, preferably 22. So if you're a snacker (and I am, massively) it's hard.

Ahahahstop · 03/03/2021 20:39

Mine was supposed to April as well but they rang with last minute cancellation

I eat all day hence the size of me Grin maybe all this tooth brushing will stop me eating and I'll drop a few stone

I had train tracks at age 48. Best thing I ever did. Straight teeth in 12 months and I get compliments on my smile all the time now.

Yay!

Yeval · 03/03/2021 20:45

Hahaha, loads of people said I'd lose weight... I haven't! I'm a determined eater 🙂

Would you mind me asking roughly how much you're paying?

I had them as a teen and am considering getting them again while I'll likely be wearing a mask at work for a while longer! I didn't wear my retainer- they really can go back! (I didn't have a gap when I had them removed, now have again)

My advice would 100% be wear your retainer once you're done!

Ahahahstop · 03/03/2021 21:01

I'm based in Ireland and I'm paying 3600 euro for the course clear ones. It's 3300 euro for metal and 5000 for Invisalign and that's top and bottom with fixed retainer for top and bottom and removable retainer that I'll need to wear every night for 1 year

Easterbunnygettingready · 03/03/2021 21:17

Metal train tracks... Didn't lose weight after managing to master lodging 2 squares of chocolate at the roof of mouth!!
Blush
Cost me £1500.. Paid as and when I had appointments... NHS orthodontist charged me NHS price.

Congratulations! My grandmother got braces when she was 54, and the only regret she had was not doing it far sooner. She lived to 98 with gorgeous teeth!

MrsMcTats · 03/03/2021 21:29

Could I ask what happens when the braces come off - retainer wise? I had braces as a teen and when they came off, was told 'all done' and thought I'd have lovely teeth forever. 20 years later they have definitely moved and I hate my smile. The thought of wearing a retainer forever puts me off trying again though.

I will have to wear a fixed retainer for ever as well as removable one for 12 months and then after that I'll have to wear it maybe 3 nights a week

Good luck @OP that very exciting!

Can I ask, how long from your first consultation until now (I see you were meant to be having them April, so taking that into account).

I really want them. Do you know if they would offer you finance. And is the finance 0% interest?
