Getting my braces tomorrow!

Getting fixed braces tomorrow morning! I had thought about Invisalign but the orthodontist said it would take 18-24 months but fixed braces I'll be done in 12 months

I had them about 4 years ago too, took less than 12 months and I'm really pleased with the results. Had no problem with the braces themselves and they were not very visible.
I do still wear a retainer most nights though - I'm too scared not to as it definitely feels tighter if I miss a night!

I have a fixed retainer behind my top front teeth. It's not a problem and it's never got full of tartar or anything.

I still wear my removable retainer each night too.

I found that the elastics on my braces looked so manky quite quickly despite good brushing and drinking coffee through a straw/no red wine. I'd consider train tracks because they'd look less 'dirty'. My orthodontist was good about renewing the elastics a day or so before an event though.
I found the gummy wax was better than the silicone wax. You can get it really cheaply online - much cheaper than Boots.

I am getting braces in a couple of weeks. They will be fixed for a couple of years the top first and then the bottom. I need it doing though, so I am happy about it. A retainer forever. I had braces when I was younger and they have just moved back.

My DD will be getting braces soon so the advice re retainers is good to hear.

You won't regret it OP

@NigellaSeed

Good luck *@OP* that very exciting!

Can I ask, how long from your first consultation until now (I see you were meant to be having them April, so taking that into account).

I really want them. Do you know if they would offer you finance. And is the finance 0% interest?

I've been very lucky so far, my consultation was meant to be 24 th March but I got a cancellation for 2 weeks ago, then the fitting was meant to be 1st April and again got cancellation for this morning! I do believe there was 0% interest finance offer available by every place I checked out

Thanks for the info, did you get fixed retainer too?

Does everyone have rubber bands as orthodontist didn't mention those. I do worry about the clear braces getting stained

Best of luck, I had as a child too and stupidly never wore retainer. I had the removable type of braces so I would accidently on purpose lose them

I'm 36 and got train track braces at the end on 2019. They are due off in about a month or so yey!

Best decision I made. My teeth look totally different.

Not going to lie, it's been painful. I had to have 2 teeth removed as well for it.

Best tip is have a huge meal before you go. Stock up on painkillers and soup. For a few days it will be sore and uncomfortable. The pain goes in a few days though. It can hurt after each adjustment as well for a day or two.

Twizbe · 04/03/2021 06:48

On the rubber bands, I have white brackets with white bands. Mostly it's a white wire too but not at the moment.

They do stain. I love my coffee, though I do avoid curry. If it's the day before an adjustment though I will have a turmeric full curry lol.

UselessCat · 04/03/2021 07:07

I got braces yesterday. They're fixed Damon braces with no bands so I can eat and drink what I like. I've hated my smile for years so I finally went for it at the age of 32.

They're fine so far- it's a weird feeling having them in my mouth and my teeth are very tender this morning but it's not been nearly as bad as I feared it would be!

Ahahahstop · 04/03/2021 15:41

Got them, bit of rubbing against cheeks but I'm very happy

Easterbunnygettingready · 04/03/2021 18:26

If the wires are long get some dental wax for the ends. Bliss!

Ahahahstop · 05/03/2021 07:01

Thanks, I did put it on the very last brackets as they were sticking in to me and the relief was instant! Woke up a few times during the night, I grind my teeth (I wear a mouth guard) and my bottom teeth were very sore from the pressure of the top teeth but I'm sure all will be OK in a few days

How are the braces going op? Have they stopped rubbing?

CeeCeeEnnEss · 07/03/2021 13:03

I’m a year into Invisalign, couple of months to go. Longer than planned due to Covid delays (obvs, everything is delayed...)

I lost weight at first as no snacking, because it’s a proper faff taking the aligners out to eat, but now I just eat bigger meals!

Not going to lie, they are sore! Cheeks are hurting less but still very sore to eat. I feel like I've something stuck between my 3 front teeth but I think it's just braces pushing them together

Thought I'd lose weight but I've just learned to leave food sit in my mouth longer until it dissolves Grin
