The un-Parisian look

I’ve probably completely misrepresented Parisians here but title named in response to other threads.

Can we have a thread about fun clothes that maybe aren’t everyone’s cup of tea but that bring you joy? Not any particular style but probably not a Breton stripe (sorry).
On order for me right now are a pair of orange dungarees from Lucy and Yak and two vintage T-shirt’s from urban outfitters that have been altered with a bubble hem or a ruched bit. I’d share a link to the UO tops but the stupid thing keeps defaulting to the app not web and the solution is beyond me.

No Parisian look for me either (don't like The French Tuck )

I cannot wear dungarees because by the time my elderly hands managed the fastenings and removed the top half without dangling the straps down the toilet ...it'll be too late .
I'd need my body to give me a 5 minute warning .

I dress pretty ordinary (black leggings, parka, plain jumpers) nearly all the time, but in my closet I have 3 Rat & Boa dresses... Can’t wear them unless I’m on an actual wild night out worthy of a 21-yr-old Instagrammer, or on a warm holiday, but I bloody love them.

evtheria · 01/03/2021 02:47

(Disclaimer: when I do dress up, I’m afraid it is very understated and Parisian!)

shiningcuckoo · 01/03/2021 03:24

I am very unparisian, although if I could achieve French girl style, Id go for it. I wear lots of colour, dresses, dungarees, pinafores. Today I am wearing a loose shift dress with a Frida Kahlo print, dark blue leather trainers and a forest green long cotton cardi. I have some bright red acrylic earrings shaped like hands and a green handbag. I get a lot of stuff from an Australian brand called Lazybones and lots of stuff from the charity shop too. .

Sendmetobarbados · 01/03/2021 11:28

@70isalimotnotatarget I feel your pain with the loo trips 😂 Although, can you not just quickly unhook the straps without having to untie them?

@shiningcuckoo I like the look of Lazybones but can only find an Australian website, and nothing on eBay. Do you know if it's available in the UK?

Sendmetobarbados · 01/03/2021 11:28
@Sendmetobarbados I LOVE that jumper!
Thanks! It's such a mood booster!

shiningcuckoo · 01/03/2021 13:35

@Sendmetobarbados I buy lazybones from the Oz website. They ship it to NZ. Probably to the UK too? Don't know about eBay. We don't have it here in NZ.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 01/03/2021 13:40

I'd like to join in. I'm not French chic at all. I'm not colourful either. Imagine a witch and that's my style. I am partial to a silly handbag though. I've got a lovely Pikachu one.

justanotherneighinparadise · 01/03/2021 13:47

I lobe quirky stuff so I’m in 👌

pucelleauxblanchesmains · 01/03/2021 13:50

I'm bad at the Parisian look because I'm short with 30E boobs although I have been known to wear a Breton - my current favourite item of clothing is a chartreuse puff sleeve White Stuff jumper and I have my eye on several Monki patterned midi skirts this summer.

pucelleauxblanchesmains · 01/03/2021 13:51

@shiningcuckoo your outfit sounds AMAZING!

Volcanoexplorer · 01/03/2021 15:48

I’ve found House of Neon and Neon Marl both good for hoodies.

Sendmetobarbados · 01/03/2021 19:44

Thanks, @shiningcuckoo. I agree, outfit sounds fab.

Gwynnie79 · 04/03/2021 16:51

I'm rubbish at the parisian look as I'm far too scruffy. I have though just bought a fabulous pair of shoes which are highly impractical in a very 70s vibe. I love them but can't walk in them so I'm practising around the house much to my dd disdain 😂

What do people think of this dress? www.cosstores.com/en_gbp/women/dresses/shirt-dresses/product.oversized-shirt-dress-multicoloured.0984571001.html

I'm 5'8, size 8-10 but pear shaped, currently with breastfeeding boobs. Even worth trying or not?

I like it, @WheresMyClint but not how it's been styled on the website (always the case with Cos!). I'd wear it with trainers.
WheresMyClint · 09/03/2021 22:01

I am just in a total style (lack of) rut. I can't even bring myself to press buy on a pair of jeans even though mine have a hole in the thigh because I have no idea what style will suit When you said about wearing it with trainers I thought "crap, I haven't even considered how I would wear it!" I've never bought anything from Cos before but it looked sort of comfy and easy without being my current uniform of saggy arsed jogging trousers and whichever hoodie doesn't have baby sick on. I used to care about clothes, promise!

Sendmetobarbados · 10/03/2021 19:11

I know the feeling! I reckon the current climate is doing us favours when it comes to working out what our look is. I just can't picture myself doing anything at all at the moment, which doesn't lend itself to coordinating outfits or planning styles!

HerNameIsY0shimi · 10/03/2021 21:31

I love the Parisian look, but I also love L&Y, bright colours etc.

I've just bought two pairs of trousers from L&Y. They are extremely gaudy, and wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea, but I'll wear with plain tops to tone them down a bit.

I used to live in Paris and didn't notice anything particularly different about fashion there, but either I was being very obtuse or maybe I was so immersed I didn't notice. I think women there either wore office wear or jeans. I think Londoners tend to have more remarkable / noticeable / unique, (not necessarily better), style. But I haven't lived in Paris for years, so could be quite different now.

WheresMyClint · 11/03/2021 22:34

Ok so I've shopped! Decided to buy a load of stuff in the clearance sales so that I could try on and see what worked. Also meant I could buy good quality stuff cheap, so if it gets worn out quicker from the extra washing (fewer clothes to wear/baby goo etc) I won't mind so much. As always, I struggled to order bottoms. Really casual (joggers, leggings, baggy jeans) just doesn't suit my body shape but I don't always want to wear things that only look good with heels, hence I end up living in jeans! Still I will report back when things have arrived/request opinions so I don't waste my money on the wrong things.

Bimblybomeyelash · 12/03/2021 08:01

I want to see some more links please people!!

HerNameIsY0shimi · 12/03/2021 08:08

These are the three I've ordered. I'm unsure about sizing, so some, or all, may have to go back, but we shall see. I'm an hour glass shape with majassive hips, so think the shape should be ok.

@70isaLimitNotaTarget, You don't need to unclip or untie the straps on baggy dungarees.

I don't like the french tuck either.

Oldraver · 12/03/2021 14:30

I am wearing this today. I said at the start of the year I would only wear cat themed clothes ( out of work) but the Alpacas crept in
