Hypothetically, what type of sunhat would a Scandinavian architect wear?

StewardsEnquiry · 26/02/2021 13:09

I've spent lockdown sorting out my wardrobe into a coherent style and I feel like I've sort of nailed it (for me..... it was starting from a low point).

Now on this gloriously sunny day I'm thinking ahead to the summer and I will definitely need something to keep the sun off my face. I've also started using retinol so that is another consideration. I use factor 50 every day like I should, of course.

So please help me. Do Scandinavian architects wear hats in the sun? Could they ever? If they did, what might such a hat look like?

I'm thinking it might be neat and small brimmed. But slightly quirky, not quite symmetrical, maybe. Where might I shop for such a hat? Does anybody know, please?

I am tall and size 8... and cool toned so I'm thinking neutral or navy.

Or would a Scandinavian architect never wear a hat at all? PLEASE HELP!!!!!

I rarely come into Style&Beauty as I am neither stylish nor beautiful well, the dog loves me. Grin.
However, your thread title is intriguing- and the answer is Cos, surely?

I've looked at all the Scandinavian architects in my circle none and feel that this Cos effort might be along the lines of what you seek?

WaterBottle123 · 26/02/2021 13:23

Norwegian or Finnish?

It matters.

FlibbertyGiblets · 26/02/2021 13:26

A sort of cloche sou wester

StewardsEnquiry · 26/02/2021 13:28

I don't know whether I'd be Norwegian or Finnish. I'm not sufficiently advanced in my style journey to know this yet. Please would you be able to provide examples of both to let me peruse, and then I might know?

I'm thinking the yellow Cos hat is not what I had in mind. Definitely not yellow Shock

I am ridiculously over-invested in your search anything to divert from Friday evening report completion.

Architects don't go out in the sun, our whole raison d'être is to build things to hide from the bloody thing.

(Try Marimekko for something with an interesting pattern or try Japanese brands, my advice, invest in very black sunglasses instead)

This might be promising. Something like that maybe?

Or something almost like a Panama, but Not Quite?

Just got to say I love your thread title. I never venture into this section except to discuss tent clothes for fatties.

But my instant response was Cos. I could also see a scandi architect in a headscarf - plain dark grey cotton or marimekko. That probably does nothing for skin protection but there you are. The suns not so bright in Scandinavia.

Also don't forget that you must as a family wild swim in the nude during summer and on major festivals. (I found this out on a business trip to Finland where one of the presenters by mistake showed us a picture of her family summer solstice party......).

strudsespark · 26/02/2021 13:43

I'm sorry OP, but 🤣🤣🤣

Scandi here, just did a search and no, those i can google don't wear hats, perhaps the weird wannabe one. Definitely not straw.

These two are the nearest I can think of and the one architect i know doesn't wear hats 😀.

Japanese brand for reference, not sure how easy they are to get hold of here.

StewardsEnquiry · 26/02/2021 14:05

botemp thanks for that link.

That might not be strictly in keeping with the Scandi look but I reckon it would be okay with my look. But they don't ship internationally Confused

How about a long thin scarf tied at the back instead of a hat? That has a wholesome outdoorsy nordic feel to it

sansucre · 26/02/2021 14:19

Cos make sunhats. I have this one, made from paper. It is marvellous.

My Danish architect (male) friend wears a straw Fedora.

Try TOAST

FionaMacCool · 26/02/2021 14:55

Ah! I see the S&B grown-ups have arrived. Which is excellent news for you OP.

You see, that last link to Maxmara, bring nothing to my unstylish mind, other than Melania Trump's interpretation of "white saviour chic".
I am clearly a lost cause.

wondarah · 26/02/2021 15:00

other than Melania Trump's interpretation of "white saviour chic".

How did you get all that from a straw hat? 😆

strudsespark · 26/02/2021 15:09

Much too invested now and I clearly don't have any taste either, but

I would seek inspiration from the sweedish painter Carl Larsson or Beatrix Potter (movie). Eg. straw hat that you like with a scarf tied round the top. But this is clearly a matter of taste and how fashionable you want to be Smile.

Pic just for inspiration wouldn't copy exactly Grin.

Ha! This is a more expensive version of my beloved Cos one! I might have to buy this one too.
Zinnia · 26/02/2021 15:17

I think technically yer classic MN Scandi architect archetype is Swedish.

I got this from Stories last year - it's a winner for me but possibly insufficiently architectural for your needs. The Cos straw one linked upthread would be my pick. Worn with black sundress obvs.

I confessed to being a lost cause; indeed, I am a wandering and raving soul, tossed into the wonders of S&B, solely on foot of avoiding work.

Take all my opinions with vats of salt.

StewardsEnquiry · 26/02/2021 15:18

@Bouledeneige oh God, after this winter, I could actually get on board with a wild family naked swim. Basically anything not in the house, not involving homeschooling, not involving Netflix. Please.

I love the shape of that Stories hat.

I intend to buy this Cos black sundress to wear with my hat!
