Hypothetically, what type of sunhat would a Scandinavian architect wear?

I've spent lockdown sorting out my wardrobe into a coherent style and I feel like I've sort of nailed it (for me..... it was starting from a low point).

Now on this gloriously sunny day I'm thinking ahead to the summer and I will definitely need something to keep the sun off my face. I've also started using retinol so that is another consideration. I use factor 50 every day like I should, of course.

So please help me. Do Scandinavian architects wear hats in the sun? Could they ever? If they did, what might such a hat look like?

I'm thinking it might be neat and small brimmed. But slightly quirky, not quite symmetrical, maybe. Where might I shop for such a hat? Does anybody know, please?

I am tall and size 8... and cool toned so I'm thinking neutral or navy.

Or would a Scandinavian architect never wear a hat at all? PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Lock and Co might be worth a browse.
This is slightly quirky.

@strudsespark

I'm sorry OP, but 🤣🤣🤣

Scandi here, just did a search and no, those i can google don't wear hats, perhaps the weird wannabe one. Definitely not straw.

These two are the nearest I can think of and the one architect i know doesn't wear hats 😀.

Isn't that a fishing hat - subsequently appropriated by young men who either thought Oasis were brilliant to go with their Parkas or who needed something over their baggy trackies to go to Reading circa 1994?
Seriouslymole · 26/02/2021 15:35

Now THIS is what Mumsnet is for.

Not a clue OP but I am intrigued in you settling on an architect as a style - surely they just wear hard hats? How did you find your style? I need to find mine..

ZaZathecat · 26/02/2021 15:43

I've never seen a Scandinavian needing a sunhat because they all have beautiful skin that never burns and turns golden bronze after 5 seconds in the sun. And yes I am jealous!

wondarah · 26/02/2021 15:55

I intend to buy this Cos black sundress to wear with my hat!

That dress is gorgeous

bootlebum · 26/02/2021 16:18

This thread is making me so happy. I am buying that max Mara hat. Today.

strudsespark · 26/02/2021 16:28

@NeverDropYourMoonCup here those hats are called thug hats Grin. They go in and out of fashion. Since most people here don't wear hats, they are an option if needs be.

And @ZaZathecat re. sunburn, My go to colour along with many many other scandies is overcooked lobster 😂.

wondarah · 26/02/2021 16:29

@bootlebum great choice 😉

HighNetGirth · 26/02/2021 16:43

A navy or cream ladies' Panama hat from MacCulloch & Wallis, of course!

ZaZathecat · 26/02/2021 16:46

Ah Struds I feel your pain!

Surely many Scandinavian's have very fair skin and burn easily Confused Not all obvs.
ScrambledSmegs · 26/02/2021 16:52

Our very chic architect wore a baseball cap.

Not scandi though.

ZaZathecat · 26/02/2021 16:53

Luckynumber I was joking of course, although I have met a lot of beautifully tanned Scandinavians with very light blonde hair.

Zinnia · 26/02/2021 17:26

The MN Scandi/Swedish architect look derives from an old S&B thread IIRC (almost certainly one about Cos).

MrsBobDylan · 26/02/2021 18:00

This couldn't be less relevant but we once camped next to a Danish family.

Our tent looked like it was popular with fly-tippers while they neatly cooked healthy, modest meals, played board games and cycled their bikes with their genetically superior legs.

They were noiselessly efficient. We have never felt less adequate.

WheresMyClint · 26/02/2021 18:02

Instantly no help as I thought it said archeologist (new baby, no sleep). Intrigued to see what your "scandi architect" look is though, not just the hat!

NetballHoop · 26/02/2021 18:04

If I were a male Scandi architect, I'm 99% sure I'd be rocking the Van Gogh straw hat look.

As a non-Scandi Scottish chubby short person please know how jealous I am of you haha!

Isolatedizzy · 26/02/2021 19:02

I almost think you need a sun visor! These are really popular atm!

FirmlyRooted · 26/02/2021 19:58

Cos, Stories and HM are all Swedish so will definitely have the right stuff.

I can tell you Swedes love the sun, spend their six week summer vacations mostly outdoors

ImperfectTents · 26/02/2021 21:46

You wear a garland a la tove jansson

Indecisivelurcher · 26/02/2021 21:56

Following, I'm going to need a sunhat, I've spent all winter reducing the melasma marks on my forehead. And wearing a tilly hat!

justanotherneighinparadise · 26/02/2021 21:58

Love that!
Bearnecessity · 26/02/2021 22:42

My ds is an English trainee architect and you can't get him out of his Carhartt beanie.😂
