Love that kimono. Could you maybe get a fancy safety pin or little brooch to both hold it in place and make a feature? Something simple that wouldn't clash with the pattern.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 30/03/2021 09:11

ParisJeTAime that kimono is lovely - like it without the jumper, although it's a nice shade of red.

Our house isn't even small - its not massive either, but the children have a bedroom each and a gaming/ TV/ "rumpus" room in the basement, but still everyone's always in the living room. DH is working in our bedroom so I don't have anywhere just for me - my children are sunny, sociable beings and I'm a grumpy old moose, but I thought teens were meant to be antisocial and hang out in their rooms! GrinBlush I picked DD up from a driving lesson on my way home from work last night for goodness sake!

ParisJeTAime · 30/03/2021 09:17

Yes, maybe a brooch or something would work @JimmyJabs!

Haaahahaha, I think we were quite friendly as teens in my family too. My mum was always surprised about that too. She did say looking back, it was a really fun stage as she liked our humour. We are pretty hilarious...not to brag Wink

I prefer my outfit without the sweater too I think, but it's still not that warm yet. Yesterday was like this in the morning, but by school pickup time, it was lovely and warm! So exciting. Maybe the same today. Also the sweater holds the pesky kimono together. I'm going to google what I can do to keep it in place. I feel as if it might need to be tethered at more than one place.

I grew up in a small bungalow where nobody had any privacy and my teenage self hated it! My teenage self hated pretty much everything, though, so perhaps if I'd lived in bigger house I would have been complaining that it was unsociable and not cosy. The point being, teenagers will find something to strop about whatever they're given to work with. They're very resourceful really!

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 30/03/2021 09:51

JimmyJabs mine aren't stropping, they're sweetness and light, its me who's stroppy! GrinBlush

StCharlotte · 30/03/2021 09:54

Ahh, sending love UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme.

I've been wfh most of the time but until recently I haven't had a moment of non-work time to myself even though I'm on my own during the day but I have to stick to my hours to get the work done. No DC but DH has started popping round to see MIL most days after work (she's recuperating from a broken hip) and suddenly I have an hour or so to myself after work just to wind down with a cup of tea and a little light MNing. I really appreciate these few moments at the moment and I will raise a cup to you this evening Smile

I agree with the idea of a sparkly safety pin for your lovely kimono @ParisJeTAime.

Today I've gone for it and embraced today's warm weather and am wearing the new clothes with the preferred blue top and these skater shoe things which I think were from from Simply Be.

Culottes not clothes. Although they are clothes obviously!

ParisJeTAime · 30/03/2021 10:06

Oh yes, I remember that outfit @StCharlotte! It's a lovely one.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 30/03/2021 10:26

StCharlotte you understand! Yes DH is on his own in a room homeworking so obviously once the kids are in bed he's readyfor company... I'd so love to be in the house on my own for an hour! I want to go for awalk but am putting it off wondering how to get out without anyone offering to come Blush

Zebracat · 30/03/2021 10:54

Good Morning. Lovely Day here, so I have on a dress, considering leggings underneath.
@UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme . Not bragging, but I have 5 kids and fostered more. I am an expert in carving out alone time.

  1. You have been very busy and I expect you are very efficient at washing. But on your day off, getting ready for the day should easily take an hour.
2.Then there’s the menopause. No one wants anything to do with that, so find a podcast, or better, a guided meditation about accessing your inner goddess during perimenopause, and explain sweetly that you need an hour to listen to it. Guaranteed time alone. 3.I am quite sure that the only reason I am a gardener is that no one else had any interest in it, and it’s worthy, you are making the environment better, so that works really well too.

That reminds me of my Mum when I was little (youngest of five). She went to Evensong every Sunday and occasionally I would nag to go with her. On the rare occasion she allowed me to go, I was under pain of death not to make a peep.

Looking back, I now realise I was intruding on her "alone" time Blush

(My Dad was in the choir. It was probably their equivalent of "date night"!)

Could you just be honest with them and tell them that you need some time to yourself to go on a walk today. They sound like great kids, I'm sure they'd understand.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 30/03/2021 11:29

wishing I cracked out my cropped wide leg trousere, its glorious down south! Today I"m in navy trouserd and a purple linen blend Tshirt.

Deathraystare · 30/03/2021 14:40

Got some stuff from TU (Sainsbury's). A ribbed white t shirt and animal print (stretch waist) trousers. The top reminds me of a lovely top I had from Laura Ashley years ago!

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 30/03/2021 15:13

Zebracat that is very wise advice, especially as I'm currently sitting bare legged in the sun (denim skirt from Next) noticing that I did an embarrassingly patchy job of shaving (actually epilating) my legs! I may be efficient at washing but I should perhaps spend longerin the bathroom on other tasks GrinBlush

DD is the gardener in the family, so gardening wouldn't get me anywhere, but getthe idea!

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 30/03/2021 15:18

StCharlotte Grin your poor mum! You're right, I know they're great kids - its me who's a grumpy old fart! I actually feel better now as I just let and walked and didn't say I was going anywhere - usually I sayIm going and get asked to wait... I think maybe DH or dd are spying on MN though as dd has asked to come with me when I drove dc3 toan appointment, but when I got home she toldme she'd changed her mind...

poorremus · 30/03/2021 18:36

Hi all.

At LAST it's warm enough for my Seasalt tunic slash tent and the CROPPED JEANS which I love. Actually, it was a bit too warm earlier when I was outside - but now it is thin cardinindoors temperature again.

StCharlotte · 30/03/2021 18:39

That top is a lovely shape poorremus

ParisJeTAime · 30/03/2021 18:47

It is so exciting isn't it remus? I was too hot on the school run today. Wore a jacket and it was totally unnecessary.

I like your whole outfit Smile. I'm waiting for some girlfriend jeans from Sainsbury's. They look similar to yours in shape and colour. I have had some of their jeans before and really liked them so fingers crossed.

I was just reminded how last summer we were posting about how boiling we were

Thank you @ParisJeTAime and @StCharlotte - I love Seasalt a bit too much really, and went mad at the start of lockdown last year ordering from them.

poorremus · 30/03/2021 19:02

Oops - should have had a Grin at the end of that first sentence.

ParisJeTAime · 30/03/2021 19:22

I know! I've spent all these weeks excited for summer, but when it arrives, I'll probably complain it's too hot and my face is itchy because of the pollen Grin. Oh well. The thing I love about summer is having to wear less. No coats to worry about, fewer layers, less washing and it can all be hung outside anyway! Also, just the joy if summer colours and maybe even socialising (fingers crossed).

JimmyJabs · 31/03/2021 09:06

It's too hot for me now, I can't stand being sweaty! Today I'm wearing vintage George at Asda 😂 These trousers saw me round Pompeii 5 years ago and were lovely and cool, so I'm hoping they will be similarly helpful today. I'm so bad at dealing with the sun - my fingers swell up and I get joint pain from my RA.

Deathraystare · 31/03/2021 09:08

@UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme

Your teens are all wrong! Have they no angst/stroppiness at all? Shame on them! Not really teens at all, they are pod people!

Anyway, I am wearing my bright pink Fruit of the Loom t shirt and some lovely TU blue leggings - not really denim but a lovely soft material. I keep stroking my own legs! Should probably stop now as I am at work! Also new fitflops in a navy suede type thing after someone mentioned fitflops on Mumsnet. They fit really well despite me having wide feet.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 31/03/2021 09:35

Love your outfits @poorremus and @JimmyJabs!

I need to go through my wardrobe with the warmer weather in mind, I was struggling to find a not long sleeved work top to wear yesterday, ended up with a purple Tencil t shirt but it was a little too small and kept rolling up my belly :( I know I have a couple of light linen tops somewhere which I need to dig out.

Currently working in my PJ's as was so knackered I slept through my alarm :(

ParisJeTAime · 31/03/2021 09:35

Grin @Deathraystare.

@JimmyJabs, I LOVE that outfit on you. It's lovely and highlights your lovely waistline.

I'm in a Uniqlo v neck jumper, longline tank top and leggings today! If it's warm, I'll wear with trainers. If less warm, I'll wear with not goth boots.

I'm getting into a bit if a self imposed, uniform at the moment, as I've got rid of so many things. I'm down to all jeans, leggings, shorts and tops! One jumpsuit as a bit of a wild card. Will see how I get on with just these few things. If I can live without the extras, I'm going to sell and donate them.
