WWW's ten year younger boot camp Nov 07 - WEEK TWO - all welcome

WideWebWitch · 04/11/2007 20:55

This is week two of the ninth WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2007.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's autumn
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

I have had a lovely weekend and wish it wasn't Monday tomorrow but hey ho.

I must eat more fruit and veg I think.

Evening all.

Champagne and crisps sounds so mmmmmm.

Really don't envy the commute www.
Aaarrrggghhh at the throwing away of the cheesecake. I don't hink I could do that swedishmum, kudos to you.

sounds great puddle.
hope you're feeling better shreddies.
Iota and www, hope your backs improve soon, I have a mild twinge, but it's nothing really.

Whether I'm complimented or peed off about something, I just eat!

Sunscreen yes,
60 mins Exercise bike instead of walking.
Drink water/weak tea.
Use hand cream/foot cream - could improve.
Go to bed early, 11 last night, and fell fast asleep, gave myself a start when I turned over and felt DH there - I'd never heard him come into the house, let alone get into bed!
Eat healthily - ish.
Be happy - hmm, ready to throttle the little darlinks, good job it's bedtime, lol.

tortoiseSHELL · 06/11/2007 21:05

Hi everyone - thank you for the good wishes, I'm feeling much better thank you. Just a BAD weekend, they come along every so often!

www - driving sounds a bad idea! I so don't envy you that commute, but can you make it into pleasurable time? Crossword? Knitting?(!) Mnetting?

If people saying you've lost weight is a disincentive, try imagine people saying 'she's really put on the weight hasn't she' as a re-incentive! Or something like that!

Sorry you're still feeling yuk DuchessofNorks - how many weeks are you now? It must ease off soon? I always lose loads of weight in the first 3 months of pregnancy, which is some consolation for feeling rubbish!

I've had a good day, had a long drive today and managed not to stock the car with nibbles which is always a bad thing for me. Have concentrated on being 'too busy to eat' which I think is a thin person's thing! My aim for tomorrow is more water! Too much diet coke today.

bamamama · 07/11/2007 03:16

[bama shuffles in hiding swedishmums binned cheesecake behind her back]
Hello all - not sure where the time went! Bootcamping been quite difficult of late, lots of 'big' convos going on in our house at the mo which neccessiates (sp??) wine which of course makes me starving the following day. Oh well. Btw, thanks very much to all who responded to my family size wails, your thoughts were really appreciated . Ds is currently having a nap and then I shall walk round the lake and try not to have a cake.

Hope everyone is feeling better and that you find some way to make your commute bearable www!

tortoiseSHELL · 07/11/2007 08:47

So yesterday was a really good day for me, ate 1.5 sausages (ok, so not really healthy, but at least they were 'good' sausages, done in the oven so not fried), and roasted veggies - done with a tiny spray of olive oil - a big mushroom, a tomato, half an onion.

Am taking ds2 swimming in a minute, which I always kid myself is good for me too(!), but this evening am taking ds1 for his swimming lesson, so will swim while he is in the pool. My big challenge this afternoon is to not eat rubbish when I get tired.

www - have you thought of removing your make up on the train? You need to be inventive and think of things that need to be done in your home life that could easily be accomplished during the train journey. If you get a laptop you could do online shopping/menu planning, manage your finances.

I'm still being good, but still feeling crap. But I seem to remember form last time taht it takes a couple of weeks for teh aslcohol/toxins to work tehir way out and leave you feeling ebtter, so I'm persevering.

puddle · 07/11/2007 11:43

www that commute sounds deadly. I used to get to work at Ox Circus in half an hour catching 73 from Angel - that must mean roughly 15 mins from Euston? That was ages ago though....

I am about to return to work next month after having a few months off and am dreading commute again - sitting on a train for an hour makes me feel terribly sluggish. Also finding tome for exercise when working is problematic - what do other people do?

T-shell I eat rubbish when I am tired too - I have got into the habit of cutting up an apple and having with some dried fruit and a few nuts around 4.00 ish to stave off picking whilst cooking and it really works.

I am mostly eating rice and oats for carbs at the mo (have cut out wheat for detox) and am amazed how my energy/ hunger levels don't seem to drop/ rise at all through the day.

Well done on weight loss Dolly. I had a similar day yesterday (although mine are older they each had a friend back for tea after school) and was the first time in over a week I have wanted a glass of wine at 6.00pm!

Sympathies with your back Iota - I had back pain last week for the first time (pregnancy excepted) and realised how grim it must be for people who have long term back problems.

Dingle · 07/11/2007 18:34

Sorry, been around as such but busy, busy, busy sitting on my fat backside making Xmas cards!!!

I am full of flu but hopefully seen the worst of it now!!

BUT how am I doing!! Think I need to sit in the naughty corner!

Sunscreen - Yes SPF 15 daily
Booze - with all the stress of the extension I have sooo enjoyed my glass of wine of an evening. I promise to cut down, even if I have a little wine with lots of soda, it's a start.
Walking - still only do about 5000-8000steps a day on the school runs! I will get out my Omron and try to run even if it's only once a week.
Water - nowhere near enough!!
Body cream - only once/twice a week
Handcream- I must use handcream a couple of times a day now. I am working in a nursery a couple of morning a week and we are still covered in plaster dust at home- I seem to be constantly washing my hands!
Bed early -I have tried but I have so much on my poor little mind I usually wake up at 2am and can't get back to sleep so I am not feeling the benefit yet!
Eat healthily- not really but we are cutting out the take aways now most of the build has been finished.
Be happy-still tired and stressed but hopeful!

Right now where's that naughty corner!

Dingle · 07/11/2007 19:04

Oh yes...and hubby and me are going out to a Dinner & Dance on Saturday! We have not been out for aaaages and I really need a kick up the backside. I am like a little recluse since having the children.

Hair awful, nails awful and no money!! I have allowed myself to buy a new haircolour and a new mascara..so any quick tips would be MUCH appreciated!!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 07/11/2007 20:09

Hello all,

Have done nearly 10,000 steps today. I shall do another long brisk walk tomorrow between dropping DD2 at pre-school and my midwife coming to do booking-in appointment.

Have eaten tons of salad, cottage cheese, crispbreads and more salad. And I'm about to eat a plain lobster with mayo - yes I know I shouldn't be eating seafood but I cooked the damned thing so I know it's been done properly! I also know it's late but I had to wait until DCs were in bed as I am NOT SHARING!

Slept reasonably well last night so felt better today. This cold weather is beginning to dry my skin out so I've been slapping on extra rations - even so, my hands are very dry and quite itchy so I'll start leaving tubs of handcream all over the house for regular applications!

And now, Mr Lobster is calling....

WideWebWitch · 07/11/2007 21:25

Oh DROOL at lobster! Why wouldn't you eat it? Is it yet another new pregnancy no no? Or has it always been on the banned list? Sfw, you must eat it, I am like this:

Dingle, get thee to the 'what makes you feel good' thread, there are loads of tips there. Which you can read from the naughty corner

Puddle, good luck for going back to work. I don't exercise atm but have a bit of commute related walking so that's my exercise. On the train in the morning I do my make up, eat my breakfast and read. I have realised that I MUST have a riveting/amusing book though or else it would be terrible. So I don't think I can ever start a book on the train (well unless I'm pretty sure it's going to be good a la Piers Morgan) as I'd just feel desperate if it turned out to be crap.

Prufrock, yes, I have decided I absolutely must buy make up remover pads and take my make up off on the way home, you're right. and we're looking into getting the tiniest laptop so I can email/mumsnet/whatever on the way home. You're right, it take a couple of weeks to start feeling good, I think I'm JUST climbing the hill of feeling better for doing this again. The first few days were haaaaaaard.

Batters, I don't mind at all. My commute on public transport is
drive to CMK (not far)
40 mins to Euston
2 stops to Oxford Circus
Central line 10 or something stops to west london

Driving:
Hmm, well, I have to get to somewhere off the A40, after Hanger Lane. So as I see it my options are:

M1
North Circ to Hanger Lane (maybe cutting through back of Park Royal but gather that's rubbish as everyone thinks they can avoid N Circ that way)
then A40 towards central London

M40 which turns into A40, pretty much all the way there
although yesterday the queue started before the Polish war memorial even and from there it was a good, what, hour ish?

Or
Drive to West Ruislip (with all attendant problems of above drive, it's too far in)
park, central line in about 10 stops or something

Or Watford? I haven't explored this option I have to say

Bicester isn't that far from me but goes into Marylebone which is no better really

And if I could go into Ealing Broadway it would be good but no idea where trains come from to come into E Broadway

Shame I don't still live with ex dh, who is in Ealing, it would be ideal!

Never mind. This morning the total journey was 1 hr 40 mins and I got a seat most of the time so it was fine. First class is worth every penny, especially on the way home when most of standard (what happened to 2nd class?) are standing.

Sorry for length of post. You did ask! Bet you wish you hadn't!

Tshell, I'm glad you're feeling better.

Bama, aaah the vicious wine cycle? Yes, yes, I know it well. You drink because life's tough then you sleep badly, then you wake up feeling doubly shite so you eat your way through it. Repeat ad nauseum until boot camp straight and narrow beckons I 100% know I cannot do this commute if I drink so it's proving remarkably good at keeping me to no wine for 5 nights a week. Hey, that's really positive!

unknownrelbang, well done, that's impressive, I tihnk you get the gold star for the day

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 07/11/2007 21:30

SO:

100g granola
apple
few walnuts/brazils
tuna with light mayo and cucumber sandwich
homemade flapjack
apple
baked potatoes (2, oops) with butter, cheese and more tuna mayo

No wine
loads of water
walking on commute
no sunscreen but not outside much
happy, had great day at work, like the job a lot
laughed as I am reading Diary of a grumpy old woman and in true Grumpy Old Woman fashion don't care if people give me Looks when I laugh aloud on trains...
Will go to bed in an hour
was asleep by 9.30 last night partly due to knackering drive

OP posts:
tortoiseSHELL · 07/11/2007 21:35

www I LOVE the way your list always begins with 100g granola!

Moderate day for me, took ds2 swimming this morning, so did a bit of swimming, and then walking round the shops (though I'm SURE that doesn't count as proper exercise). Food;

Apple
Carrot
2 crackers with light 'cow cheese' on and cold sausage from yesterday
Marmite sandwich - one 'thin' slice of bread with marmite.
3 grapes

Haven't had tea yet, but will make something fairly light as it is late.

prufrock · 07/11/2007 21:50

I've been bad - but am happy as "bad" now is so much better than "bad" 3 weeks ago. Skipped breakfast, so had 2 slices of buttery toast, then skipped lunch, then had mocha and pecan danish with the kids as after school snack, then ate spinach and ricotta pasta with them for tea. So fairly crap food wise. But no alcohol. And dh is away tonight so I would normally have turned to wine. So I'm feeling virtuous for that at least.

www - don't use make up pads - they are terrible for your skin (esp after a certain age) as they contain alcohol (makes the moisture evaporate) which dries your skin terribly. An oil based cleanser and cotton wool pads wold be far better - She Uemura do an amazing one which is on my Xmas list.

Batters yes - Roger needed a friend, so we have a new puppy. Ds named him apple "as that is my favourite thing ever" He's 11 weeks old and gorgeous - though Rog is a bit put out by his presence

unknownrebelbang · 07/11/2007 22:58

Rushing to post and go to bed, will catch up with posts tomorrow.

Sunscreen yes,
60 mins Exercise bike instead of walking.
Drink water/weak tea.
Use hand cream/foot cream - could improve.
Go to bed early, asleep by 11 pm!
Eat healthily - hmmmm. Wednesday's are always chaotic, and that includes the food.

swedishmum · 07/11/2007 23:26

You're all doing so well. I really haven't got round to digging ut a pedometer yet myself. I'm so easily led out of my healthy regime.
I've had a spectacularly bad day - started last night when not back from youth club run till 9.55pm. Knock on bad effect today with dd3 (3). I'm really missing out on life here I think. Took ds for typing course till 5.30, trusting dds 1 and 2 with dd3 - gave them £40 for school shoes so not ideal. Came back shattered to help for 2 hrs with homework... I feel at the moment as though everything I do is for someone else. No-one to help out with childminding. As an eg of how remote we are, the youth club I take dd to is 10 miles away and nearest option. Grr. Just my excuse. I'll be back on track tomorrow, promise!! Just ignore my whinge.

DollyPopsOut · 08/11/2007 00:40

So much for an early night..... have failed spectacularly on most counts today. Will explain myslef tomorrow. Hope i am not expelled for disobedience. Take care y'all and see you tomorrow XX

bamamama · 08/11/2007 02:28

hello all.

www - your commute reminds me why we live in rural Scotland however I suppose on the flip side you have access to facilities we could only dream about.
Duchess - hope the lobster was good - as I think I've said before, when pregnant just pretend you're French and anyway, have you actually met anyone who's had listeria? (bama braces herself for the onslaught of listeria-got-my-postman tales).
t/shell - I find the energy expended in fretting about being in a swimming costume in public does make it exercise. - btw, hope you're week is going better than of late.
Dingle - very virtuous making christmas cards. I managed to haul ass round the mall this morning and resisted the temptation of buying cards with kangaroos in santa hats on. There, sadly, the good taste ended. Hope the flu has receeded.
I have resigned myself to the vicious wine circle this week, had one of those depressed and can't shake it off days yesterday but much better today as a result of a small bottle of cab sauv and series one of The Mighty Boosh on dvd. I may start a thread about the back story, too long and dull to dwell on here. The wallowing will stop in time for next week - I promise!
Anyhoo, moving on - anyone got any recommendations for hand cream? I desperately need something. Night night you northern hemisphere bootcampers!

DollyPopsOut · 08/11/2007 19:40

Where is everyone today?

I have done badly on the glasses of wine front. DD1 is hugely playing up at the moment and I am finding it all a bit stressful. Plus I am back to work in 2 weeks after ML and I dont want to go. Am skint but dont know if I can bear to be separated from my little DD2.She's only 8 months. I know lots of people go back a long time before me so I shouldn't moan but it is making me a bit sad.

Moan, moan, moan. Am exercising well but still not doing great on other counts. Must do better. Am out to dinner tonight once DH comes home so will try to go a bit easy on the wine.

WWW - liz earle cleanse and polish is very good if you are in a rush. It's like the Eve lom one but much cheaper. It's also made with natural ingredients and smells great. I love it.

Duchess - hope you are feeling better today. My consultant suggested lobster and champagne when I was overdue with DD1 so it must be OK with the medical seal of apprval.

Bama - I like the clarins hand cream. Can't remember the exact title but it's very effective. Think I need some sunscreen too though as I have pram puhsers hands. Much darker than the rest of me and look as if I am wearing dark (and rather dried out) gloves

Hopethings are better for you this week Tshell

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 08/11/2007 20:12

Well hello Dolly! I'm here today. You are a LUSH with that wine. Put the bottle away girl! Well done on the exercise - what do you do?

The lobster was divine. Just a blob of mayo and a pile of watercress. DCs were all asleep and DH was up in town. It was lovely! And I was in bed by 10.30 and slept until 4am, so felt quite good today.

Today I've eaten a cheese scone, cottage cheese & big mixed salad with a slice of bread for lunch, pie, sweetcorn & about 3 chips (really off potatoes atm) for dinner and a bowl of raspberry sorbet (which DD1 has suggested as a name for the new baby ). Todays beverage of choice is Ruby Red Orange Juice.

Walked a brisk 3k this morning with a 5 minute jog. Midwife was most impressed - had my booking-in appointment today, I'd forgotten what a palaver it is!

And now I must tackle enormous mountain of ironing...

DollyPopsOut · 08/11/2007 20:51

Duchess, I am a walker. We don't have a car at the moment, and so I go everywhere with my enormous double buggy. It weighs 16kg without anyone in it - DD1 must weigh about that and DD2 about half that, so I have a lot of resistance as I push. I go quite fast too so I have slim arms and legs, but a lardy middle.

You are a wonder to do some much exercise when you are not feeling good because of the pg. Food looks good too. When is the baby due - June ish? Do you have boys or girsl so far or a mix?>

DH still not home - there'll be no wine left at the pub (only joking ). Back later XXXX

WideWebWitch · 08/11/2007 22:16

Hello!

100g granola ()
realised I'd forgotten my homemade lunch so bought a low cal prawn mayo sandwich at Euston, 330 cals
and an apple
another apple
a bag of apple 'crisps' - 75 cal
peas
some sloppy guiseppe and some American pizza
lots of water
usual amount of walking
forgot sunscreen AGAIN
no wine, for the FIFTH night running

and going to bed in 10 minutes.

OP posts:
unknownrebelbang · 08/11/2007 22:51

Hello all.

I need to eat veg www, but I do eat plenty of fruit.

Have a great time on Saturday Dingle.

Thank you for my gold star, lol, I shall cherish it. Confession time though. Yes, the ex bike rate is going well, but it's cos I'm a lazy mare tbh - I NEED to exercise so that I can eat more, lol, so I sit on my *rse and pedal, it's the only thing that works for me tbh. Oh, and I issue orders to the boys whilst pedalling, lol, if it's in the evening. Seriously though, I don't eat as healthily as I should, I eat far too much, and I need to lose weight for my health, so the exercise is all-important, and I still have a long way to go.

unknownrebelbang · 08/11/2007 22:54

oops forgot.

Sunscreen yes,
60 mins Exercise bike instead of walking.
Drink water/weak tea.
Use hand cream/foot cream - could improve.
Go to bed early, ridiculously late last night.
Eat healthily - not too bad.
Be Happy. Hmm, irritated by several silly mistakes I've made at work this week, but had lovely comments about DS2 + DS3 from their music teachers tonight.
