I always really struggle with the transition between autumn to spring and then spring to autumn. You know when you are out of boots and into trainers, out of coats but too cold for T-shirt? I’m really struggling! I need just casual ideas. I don’t like hoodies as they are too faffy around the neck as I have long hair I also hate any kind of scarves for the above reason. I don’t want to wear a fleece and can never find any cardigans without looking like my mum. I live in skinny jeans... what can I wear on my top? I don’t like long sleeve T-shirt’s as they seem to accentuate my sticky out belly...I’m also a short arse just to help. I’m late 30’s. Can anyone help?

I love my classic leather jacket in the in between season, although I do often put a small hoodie underneath. I also like a 'coat-igan' the firmer structure making them less mumsy than a long cardie in my mind.

I also like to keep wearing a hat for warmth, so I can ditch a layer as the sun comes out, but also protects against frizzy hair in spring showers 😆

Whatnamesareleft · 23/02/2021 19:38

Oh yes I have a fake leather jacket that I have that looks nice but not great when I’m out walking as I get really hot and sweaty Blush

I don’t own any coatigans... can you recommend any @MamaNell? Will they look with me being short?

in between seasons are tricky! That's why I end up wearing a light raincoat over a t-shirt or shirt a lot.

Occasionally people my husband will query why I'm wearing a raincoat when it isn't actually raining but I like the look of it. More structured and flattering than a cardigan or jumper.

I do also wear cashmere round-neck cardigans, either over a longer shirt, or almost buttoned up over a vest top.

MamaNell · 23/02/2021 19:53

Bearing in mind I haven't seen any of these in real life as everything is shut...

I like this one https://www.next.co.uk/G27120s12/365542#365542?utmsource=google&utmmmedium=organic&utmcampaign=organicshopping

And the denim shirt underneath is a nice idea for under your leather jacket to stop the sweaty ness. I often use a denim shirt as a cardie in the summer...

And I love the simplicity of this one . Would maybe work better as an indoors/ outdoors option? https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-wool-blend-seam-detail-coatigan/grey/p5379594?sku=238943047&size=s&sppc=2dx92700060602101825&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIz8Tr7uOA7wIVDurtCh2w0A22EAQYAiABEgKNMfDD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Littleguggi · 23/02/2021 20:35

I quite like a gilet, either a padded one or a long-ish waterfall style/ suede one which can be worn with a long sleeve top or jumper

Whatnamesareleft · 23/02/2021 21:35

That next one looks very thick, more so than any of my jackets? I can’t wear wool either as I’m allergic Sad

I have a gilet... I do forget I have that but again, it’s what to wear under it that’s the problem!

Cardigans just don’t flatter me. I really do look like I’m borrowing my mums cardy maybe because I am short I’m not sure..

A hoodie without a hood is a sweatshirt Confused

Whatnamesareleft · 23/02/2021 21:43

Yeah I hate sweatshirts as they bunch up and too high in the neck I mean a zip up not an over the head hoodie

Whatnamesareleft · 23/02/2021 21:47

How about shackets? What are they like?

seensome · 23/02/2021 21:55

There are lots of different shape cardigans though, you just have to find one to flatter your shape, I've just ordered a belted one and a wrap one, I'm conscious about my tummy area so I prefer a closed but one that adds shape.
Over shirts seem popular atm

MamaNell · 23/02/2021 22:26

What do you usually wear with your skinny jeans in winter?
And in summer?

I've been too cold for anything other than loads of layers/ trousers but with the warmer weather I'm looking forward to thick tights and dresses with ankle boots.

Sleephead1 · 24/02/2021 06:26

What about t shirt then a shirt over the top? Checked , denim etc. I wear them over skinny jeans or leather look leggings with a bodysuit then shirt over the top.

Twotoesmo · 24/02/2021 06:34

All year I wear jeans, and then either a TShirt in summer, add a shirt spring and autumn, add a jumper in winter. Then add a medium weight parka if needs be for outside. Always with jeans. Wellies winter, trainers autumn or spring, sandals summer. Always natural fibres.

BorisandHarriet · 24/02/2021 06:42

I don’t understand what’s wrong with either a sweatshirt (round neck and not high) or jumper? They make them without hoods.

CupboardOfJoy · 24/02/2021 07:07

Bomber jacket?

I wear a Fat Face Sussex jacket, they basically have the same one every year but alter it slightly. Or a Mint Velvet jacket that's a bit thinner, again they do similar styles every year.

CupboardOfJoy · 24/02/2021 07:21

Boden

PandoraP · 24/02/2021 08:11

I wear casual blazers with skinny jeans and trainers

PresentingPercy · 24/02/2021 08:24

V neck merino pullover or check shirts with jeans. Put a t shirt under if it’s a bit chilly. Standard pull on shirts. Button up shirts. I like Cashmere pullovers too but if you cannot wear wool, cheap alternatives are available. Loads of short cardigans are in the fashion mags now. Wide placket and quite big buttons. These are not granny cardigans.

I like a coat - usually a straight cut one. Tweed is a big favourite but again cheaper fabrics are available. Parka for casual. I find leather cold but great for going to the shops. Not for walking the dog.

Whatnamesareleft · 24/02/2021 09:17

I get too hot with coats in this between weather which is a shame as I love winter fashion!

I always wear skinnies with what I call little jumpers (kind of fitted type you see in oasis) and in the summer skinnies with T-shirt’s!

I love the idea of a casual blazer though! Any recommendations? I would love maybe a couple of comfy shirts not crisp collar type though. The problem I find being short these sort of things look awful on me as they aren’t fitted and there isn’t a great deal out there for petites that I like Sad

PresentingPercy · 24/02/2021 11:50

There are light weight coats. Chunkier long cardigans. Look at Arket, &OtherStories and Boden for tops. You can cinch something in with a belt if it not fitted enough. Slim fitting cigarette pants look good too.

Comfortzone · 24/02/2021 11:52

Have you tried the long white sleeve or black sleeve under your t-shirts look? Not sure if this is still fashionable though, but it does the job for me on cold spring days. Failing that, it's tops layered with warm cardigans or wool jumpers
