Side partings are ageing?

According to an article I've just read apparently side partings are totally ageing and out of fashion and flicking through Instagram there is a definite age divide in partings. Most under 30s all have a poker straight middle parting.
I had a middle parting myself till I was about 30 and then changed to side which I think suits my face -oval, big nose-better than a middle parting but I've just tried a middle parting and honestly think it knocks a good five years off me...possibly as I look more like myself in my 20s though....also the lawyer woman in the undoing who is Nicole Kidman's friend looks younger than the other rich mums and I was thinking it was her middle parting- is this a general hair rule that I've missed ?!

Well this is like saying if you wear a bib you'll look younger.

😂😂

Well, tbf, show me an adult wearing a big who DOESN'T look like a giant baby!

This is going to sound mad, and I absolutely don't think it when I see other people with side partings, but when I part my hair to the side I start thinking of Hitler and feel really wrong about it.

Wedlock · 18/02/2021 11:19

That does indeed sound mad.

Wax your 'tache and you may feel less Adolf-y.

Loopyloututu · 18/02/2021 11:21

My hair just falls in a side parting, it’s so difficult to get it to stay in the middle - but I do think it looks better.

Omg me too! I go too far to the side and this is exactly what I think. Sorry, this thread has taken a very strange turn!

My mustache is far too Salvador Dali for any confusion there, thanks.

@BallsToYouSue I'm so glad it's not just me!

justanotherneighinparadise · 18/02/2021 11:32

I’m not sure about this. I really think it depends on face shape and hair.

justanotherneighinparadise · 18/02/2021 11:35

I just googled celebrities over 50 - as they are the most likely to look great and I can honestly say those with side partings like marginally better than those with centre partings. So I think it’s complete nonsense.

SpringtimeBluebells · 18/02/2021 11:43

I think centre partings are ok for thinner hair. Thick hair and the hair falls in face. I actually think it depends on the face and style of hair.

I prefer a fringe since I find that hair can pull the face down and for some a fringe frames nicely.

SpringtimeBluebells · 18/02/2021 11:44

@Tallybeebloom

My hair's really curly, if I try a centre parting it just sits like a Christmas tree!
This.

I have really thick hair and a centre parting looks heavy and keeps falling in my face!

SpringtimeBluebells · 18/02/2021 11:46

I just googled 'fit celebrities over 50' and all seem to have long luscious locks with no fringe and a centre parting.... oh well I'd done then.... ugly, old and not fit or fashionable Grin

lookdeepintotheparka · 18/02/2021 12:16

I've got a long face which looks even longer with a middle parting! My natural parting is just off centre and it's really strong - no hairdresser has ever been able to change my style!

However I'm really aware of how old and dated my hair now makes me look as I spend hours on Teams these days. I have poker straight hair which is now too long due to lockdown.

Anyone else here mid 40s with a long face and a good hairstyle they can suggest? Grin

withmycoffee · 18/02/2021 12:20

I think these women all look much better with their centre parting. They look younger even though the pictures with their side partings are in some cases, taken years earlier! But then, as mentioned, it may because it is more fashionable to have a centre parting right now so that makes them look younger. In any case, right now, they look younger with their parting in the middle - and interestingly, they all have very different face shapes

I've seen this mentioned a few times on social media. According to the yoof of today, signs of being incredibly old and uncool (maybe even like, over 30? Gross) are middle partings, skinny jeans and overuse of the crying face laugh emoji.

😂

DiscombobulationStation · 18/02/2021 12:23

A centre parting is a nightmare if you have a cowlick 😭

TonightMatthew · 18/02/2021 12:24

Oops my post should say side partings not middle partings!

tinylittleyou · 18/02/2021 12:25

What are the popular alternatives to skinny jeans? I’m in my late 20s and feeling very out of touch! :(

I think partings should just be what suits your face shape best. Funny how fashions go round, 10/15 years ago it was the opposite- all teens had side partings or side-swept fringes and the centre parting was seen as hideously uncool. I have a fat round face and just can’t get on with one.

BrideofBideford · 18/02/2021 12:28

If, like me, you are Gen X it should not worry you as we are ancient anyway Grin

But Millenials: Gen Z is coming for you and for your side partings and skinny jeans!

heart80s · 18/02/2021 12:30

It's the most funniest thing I've heard about Gen X. I have a side parting and love my skinny jeans won't be changing for nobody but myself lol. I tried a middle parting the other day and I looked stupid lol.

BallsToYouSue · 18/02/2021 12:32

I've just tried it... does it take years off? Hmmmmm not really. But it does look quite nice and yeah, I think maybe it's given me a bit of a lift...

I think my roots are more noticeable though 😬. But I need to get used to that, as I'm giving my bleached hair a good rest from all dye.

BigWindow · 18/02/2021 12:32

Haha!@that Guardian article

‘ What I find fascinating about the generational wars is how Gen X, the Switzerland of generations, has managed not to get involved in all this nastiness. While boomers, zoomers and millennials are at each other’s throats, Gen X just stands in the background, smoking cigarettes and wryly observing the strife’

Yes! I’m Gen X and I couldn’t give a monkeys.

Toilenstripes · 18/02/2021 12:37

@QueenOfPain

Maybe we should just bring those 90s zig zag partings back?
I love those!
