Hair loss... Please could I have your opinion?

Hi,

I’ve had excessive hair shedding now for a few years. The dermatologist I went to has put me on Spironolactone for hormonal hair loss which has cut the shedding down to around half of what it was. I notice a difference in my hair though and I’m not sure it’ll ever be what it was. I’m 40 now so maybe age related? Could I have your opinion on if it is obvious?

Are you on the pill?

Porridgeoat · 15/02/2021 21:07

Iron helps

heart80s · 15/02/2021 21:07

Doesn't look that bad. Can you wear your hair so it doesn't show a parting?

ancientgran · 15/02/2021 21:09

I don't think that is bad.

HelloThereMeHearties · 15/02/2021 21:10

That just looks like a parting to me?

CattyCactus · 15/02/2021 21:12

I agree with @HelloThereMeHearties
I’m not seeing anything out of the ordinary.

LikeaSnowflake · 15/02/2021 21:14

Looks like Norma hair to me

LikeaSnowflake · 15/02/2021 21:15

Ha ha ‘normal’ obviously

Earlybirdcatches · 15/02/2021 21:15

It looks completely normal to me.

LikeaSnowflake · 15/02/2021 21:19

Have you had children? My hair was much thicker before I had children and then it shed and shed- clumps on my pillow and in my hairbrush and the hoover! My youngest is now 3 and a half and I finally feel the shed is getting more normal. I almost felt the whole texture of my hair had changed at one point.

Tryalittletenderness · 15/02/2021 21:21

Looks absolutely fine to me.

AnyFucker · 15/02/2021 21:23

I can’t see the problem, tbh

Do you have a “before” photo ?

TheVamoosh · 15/02/2021 21:23

I think your parting looks pretty good, actually. I would not look at that and think you had any kind of hair loss.

Sarahlouiseis33 · 15/02/2021 21:29

@Porridgeoat - I come off the pill to see if it was that causing the shedding but it didn’t make a bit of difference. I also regularly take iron & my ferritin levels are very good apparently x

Sarahlouiseis33 · 15/02/2021 21:30

@LikeaSnowflake - yes, I have a nine year old son, hair didn’t shed noticeably after I had him xx

Sarahlouiseis33 · 15/02/2021 21:32

@AnyFucker - I do & they depress me! I definitely notice a huge difference x

Porridgeoat · 15/02/2021 21:35

When did you come off the pill?

Sarahlouiseis33 · 15/02/2021 21:48

@Porridgeoat - I’d been on the same pill for six years before it started shedding. Came off around 10 months with no difference x

I am sorry. I don’t disbelieve you. I am suffering from hair loss, possibly post COVID related or along with a combination of menopause/stress

Mine is a lot worse than yours, but it’s all relative isn’t it. How much volume of hair do you think you have lost ? My pony tail is about half as thick as it used to be. Hair loss is devastating, isn’t it

NYCDreaming · 15/02/2021 22:17

Honestly I think it looks completely fine! If it's just a matter of thickness you can get really good fake ponytails and buns online which add lots of volume.

homeschoolingyay · 15/02/2021 23:15

Have you had a your thyroid levels checked? Any loss from the outer edge of your eyebrows? Hypothyroidism causes hair loss.

I went through similar at your age. I found an age relevant multi vitamin and better diet helpful.

DeRigueurMortis · 15/02/2021 23:40

Looking at the pictures it honestly doesn't look bad at all.

I don't say that to be insensitive, obviously you notice a difference and it's upsetting to you. That's totally understandable.

All I'm trying to say is I doubt anyone else would notice and if that's part of what is upsetting you then hopefully that eases your worry a tiny bit.

An option you might want to consider (whilst exploring treatment options) are "toppers" - basically quarter/half wigs that just clip onto the crown.

More comfortable than full wigs and look really natural as they blend with your own hair.

Changemaname1 · 15/02/2021 23:43

I’m not even going to say “it doesn’t look that bad” because it looks perfectly normal to me
Sorry don’t want to be insensitive but honesty I see a normal parting

I’m getting a distinct feeling of deja vu here.

Yes. So similar to another thread. Hmm
