Clothes for 8 year olds

I have 8 year old B/G twins (HOW are they now 8!!) and have just done a big wardrobe clear out. Am starting to look at getting them new clothes to fill the gaps. Other than the standard boden (with a discount code)/M&S/John Lewis what other slightly funky but not too grown up shops are around for that age group? They are growing up but still relatively young for their age so some of the olds ranges are a bit too old for them. Looking good quality and not too much polyester. Oh and girls shorts which cover more than just her bum cheeks would also be great!

H&M mostly here, with some Zara and Okaïdo. Not sure if you get the latter in UK?

Insertfunnyname · 14/02/2021 13:23

I always buy jersey ‘boys’ shorts for my daughter from Next. They’re about £8 a pair, very comfy and soft jersey but a normal length not hot pants.

Girls shorts are appalling.

Chutneywashisname · 14/02/2021 13:37

Zara, H&M, Next,, Gap, and some from more expensive shops when their sales are on.

MarthaWashingtonsFeralTomcat · 14/02/2021 13:40

Sainsburys, Lands End for hoodies and tops, H&M

My DD wears cycling shorts from supermarket PE range with slightly oversized tops in the summer.

FreeButtonBee · 14/02/2021 15:13

I do like some H&M but find it overwhelming when shopping online - too much choice!

Gap I do like for some stuff.

Lands end - haven’t tried that so will defo give it a go.

I like fatface for my DCs, washes well and nice designs that IMO are not too old for 7/8/9

MarthaWashingtonsFeralTomcat · 14/02/2021 15:42

@FreeButtonBee Lands End is one of those places that do lots of discount code - a quick Google will usually get you a 40% off code no trouble.

crazyontheweekend · 14/02/2021 15:45

H&M cheaper end.

Arket and Polarn O Pyret higher end.

FreeButtonBee · 14/02/2021 16:01

I forgot about arket! Thanks for the reminder. They do the best girls pants.

Zara, H&M, Fat Face, Boden, Joules,Crew Clothing,Arket

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 14/02/2021 16:07

Deffo H&M.

SBAM · 14/02/2021 16:13

If you like H&M you might also like Lindex

Chutneywashisname · 14/02/2021 16:17

Cos kids clothes are also good, my DC is slight and Arket fits better but Cos sizing suits DC2.

Higher end brands such as Rock Your Kid, Mini Rodini and Bobochoses are lovely too but expensive.

midnightstar66 · 14/02/2021 16:21

We have a mix of H&M, joules and next. Dd8 is growing out of joules style though and getting in to sportswear, MandM direct is good for this, and Asda often has some nice bits that you can actually browse in store. She also loves river Island but that stuff can be a bit grown up.

Chutneywashisname · 14/02/2021 16:32

Where is a good place for kid’s sportswear that isn’t neon or pink?

timtam23 · 14/02/2021 17:03

Land's End in the sale or with a discount code (prices can be a bit eyewatering without discount) also Next, H&M, Matalan although I have had to browse through lots of stuff on those websites to find anything

Tweetypietwo · 14/02/2021 17:19

Zara
Mango
Mango Outlet
Reserved
Monsoon
Angel&Rocket

FreeButtonBee · 14/02/2021 17:22

Oh I LOVE lindex. Some of it is a bit young but some is perfect and my younger son (who gets mostly handmedowns) would love some of it too so will add a treat for him

I don’t like Lands End at all, is their current offering the end of their current range or is it their typical range?

Angel and Rocket have some nice clothes on their website.

tinseloatcake · 14/02/2021 18:09

I like la redoute

IndecentFeminist · 14/02/2021 18:21

Kids sportswear is good from Decathlon and Matalan

timtam23 · 14/02/2021 18:26

Chutney I think it's the end of the season for Lands End, during lockdown I thought they haven't had nearly as much choice as usual. I normally buy (boys) t-shirts from there as there's loads of patterns and colours. Not so keen on their trousers & shorts I have to admit

Chutneywashisname · 14/02/2021 18:33

Has anyone mentioned Boden? They have great kid’s clothes.

LaPampa · 14/02/2021 23:17

H&M have longer length denim shorts which my 8yo likes

Nineinchnailfile · 14/02/2021 23:22

Mountain warehouse does some nice ‘younger’ things. Colourful and practical.

Mine wear a lot of gap, Sainsbury’s and decathlon with the odd horrific but longed for item from river island thrown in.
