Mumsnet Vogue Vol 89 - Must try harder **Edited at the OP's request**

SO the last 'edition' took over a year to complete. Must try harder Voguettes. Despite the fact that we are still in lockdown, and rarely out of loungewear, there is still inspiration to be found. Spring is springing, brighter days are on the horizon and homeschooling CANNOT last forever (not if miniShop wants to live anyway).
So join us for style & beauty chat, and other inspiration as we navigate our way as stylishly as possible through lockdown 3.

Hi Voguettes,

@QueenCremant so nice to hear from you. Big congrats on getting the closure of divorce. Life with new bf sounds exciting and fun. Can’t wait to be drinking prossie with you at a mu in one of our usual venues hopefully this summer. 🥂🍾

@DryWhiteagainW lol at dh giving up ‘everything’, that is such a male way to deal with something! I can’t bring myself to give up anything for lent given the times we are living in. The only thing I am overindulging in is coffee (espresso made at home). A glass or two of wine with dinner is probably happening too often as well but have decided to moderate rather than give up plus commit to exercise 5 times per week including 2 runs.

@schmalex bienvenue! Exciting to have a new person on the thread. Love the sound of your style. Ikwym about buying jeans online but these have 2% elastene which gives a bit of a margin. I saw that Frame now does these jeans that fit across six sizes le one but not sure how that works without them being like leggings.

I wanted to share this site escentual , it is good for French pharmacy brands plus some higher end and lots of perfume. There’s currently a 25% discount so I’ve just stocked up on avène skincare plus treated myself to a Mason Pearson hairbrush. Have wanted one for years but so expensive. Should never need to buy a brush again though!

Love Escentual @maradesbois - they always do great discounts and quite a lot of the luxe make up brands that I love as well as French pharma.
How is everyone? Feeling the pain of this lockdown now. Half term week is a killer when there is nowhere to go. Just been for a walk wearing (from the bottom up) Grenson Beverlys
J Brand Marias
House of Neon sweatshirt mine is pink neon not yellow and my Hush bobble hat (with neon pink bobble).

Mixed feedback so far on Skin+Me. The skincare itself is AMAZING. Definite results after only a week of use. But first delivery was delayed, second tube sent (great cust) service) but then the dispenser promptly broke on me, so a third tube is on its way. I guess I should look at it as 3 tubes for the price of one shouldn’t I? Glass half full and all that Hmm

I’m so sick of bastard lockdown. It’s the most miserable half term ever.

Today’s sartorial fail was walking to the local shop to realise I had my pj trousers on Blush.

They probably didn’t even notice QueenC, as I always say, just work it and don’t point out the flaws!

OK......
The snowdrops are out
It’s not raining
It’s nearly Easter
There’s going to be a second series of Bridgerton
Alcohol has not run out in the super market
Our thread is still alive
Days are getting longer
There’s a vaccine !!!!!!!
No home schooling for a week
And there is light at the end of the tunnel, we are nearly (kind of but I’m trying folks) there......

I know it’s shite and horrendous etc but all we can do is try not to fall off the tightrope too often and hold eachothers’ hands when we do.............
So today QueenC and anyone else.......I am extending my podgy hands out because tomorrow I could be a crumpled mess in a corner.

Happy Wednesday all xxxx

Ah dry, happy Wednesday to you too!
It’s the ups and downs that are hard to deal with. But it is lovely that the weather is warmer and this morning, at least it is dry (it’s been incredibly wet here). I’m going for a walk this morning and at least have jeans on!!

Ooh shop, I’m never without a bra!

Managed to go for a walk before the heavens opened again!

I’ve just done a H&M order for dd and added a hoodie for me!

I must try harder in 2021 too. Wink

We have rented a house on the beach for a vacation this week. I have ended up working more than I hoped but the upside is that the weather has been glorious. I have my laptop and desk set up facing the ocean so I really cannot complain.DH took the DC fishing earlier and they had the best time. We will grill out for dinner. All very simple but still special. No style news but I am planning a spree next week. I have a few pieces that I have my eye on.

So what are all supposed to do with our hair if a side parting is out???

Is a 'laugh/cry' with a head tilt ok? 🤣🤣🤣

QueenCremant · 21/02/2021 11:13

Luckily I have a centre parting 😂

I don’t think I’ve ever been cool though, even as a teen. I look at dd (15) and she’s definitely cool.

Your holiday sounds like the dream @LoveFromDeauville, I miss seeing the sea. Here our riverside walks are nice but not exactly in the same league.

That’s a much edgier emoji @libertyonhertravels 😂🤣😂🤣

I’ve just tried a centre parting @shopafrolic, not feeling it, just draws attention to my nose #screwed . I also tried styling my hair in a face framing way following a tip on Hershesons’ IG that was more successful. Cannot wait to get my mane tamed when hairdressers reopen.

Me too @maradesbois, desperate for a trim, or at this rate it'll be a proper chop and all the balayage I forked out for last August will be gone!

We also went for a river walk today and had an ice cream, DS loved it.

I'm not cool... my parting is slightly off centre and I love the crying laughing emoji! But I work with a few people who are on the cusp of millennial/Gen Z and I sometimes find myself using the skull emoji instead or some of their slang words. Was talking to a male colleague (25) the other day about clothes and he referred to "sick drips" which he had to explain - I understand it to mean "cool clothes" Grin I feel so old!

QueenCremant · 21/02/2021 22:50

But blair, you’re young compared to me 😂.

I’ve actually never used a skull emoji...☠️💀...which one are we meant to use..?

I love imagining you all fiddling around with your partings Grin Let's hope for good news tonight - I am beyond desperate for a haircut - managed to get the dog groomed last week... was seriously tempted to ask her to go over mine with the clippers.

Shop I actually did take the scissors to my heat last week. I heard hairdresser's were opening end of April and that spurred me on my to hack at my hair as I can't wait until then. Grin

It actually looks okay, my hair is pretty forgiving. I'll probably have to give myself another trim before April. Wink

My parting is off centre. Am I past it? Confused

Blair tell me more about the skull emoji. I'm old Blush I'll be getting my vaccine soon.

Dreamqueen · 22/02/2021 19:46

MissKittyKitty I'm much older than you. I had my vaccine last week and had no side effects.

Shop another side parting here. It doesn't work in the middle. I look like Nana Mouskiri escpecially as I have the glasses already.

Look at @Stokey down with the kids.

I think MN need to update their emojis.

@Dreamqueen glad you didn't suffer any side effects from the vaccine.

Morning! I’ve had a center parting forever. Does that make me cool? Hmm

@Dreamqueen love the Nana M reference Grin
I have had a weird lump flare up in a vein in the palm of my hand - super painful, ended up having to go to see the GP today face to face, I put make up on and everything, weird having a trip out. I definitely feel odd now that they say things are easing off. I thought I'd be happier. I've clearly been stuck indoors for too long.
After seeing it recommended on Instagram I have started using the OPI infinite shine range of nail varnishes - a gorgeous red called Big Apple. it does seem to last longer than their normal range. Would recommend.
@MissKittyKitty you're brave cutting your own hair - no chance I can do that - mine is so bad now, I look as though I have a mushroom on top of my head it is sticking out everywhere and has gone really bulky, nothing I can do to tame it. I may have to consider growing it a bit longer again so it can survive any future lockdowns (still not convinced we are done yet).
Have any of you rushed to book summer holidays?

@shopafrolic I had to take action with my hair I was starting to look like the hair bear bunch

I haven't rushed out to book a holiday here or abroad. Although we postponed one from last year to this year. I'm not 100% certain we'll end up going. I have my cynical head on and it all seems too good to be true. I don't want to get all excited about a holiday for it not to happen. So I'm going to play it by ear and hope we do get to go.

@LoveFromDeauville you've been ahead of the curve all along, Wink
