Mumsnet Vogue Vol 89 - Must try harder **Edited at the OP's request**

SO the last 'edition' took over a year to complete. Must try harder Voguettes. Despite the fact that we are still in lockdown, and rarely out of loungewear, there is still inspiration to be found. Spring is springing, brighter days are on the horizon and homeschooling CANNOT last forever (not if miniShop wants to live anyway).
So join us for style & beauty chat, and other inspiration as we navigate our way as stylishly as possible through lockdown 3.

I’m weirdly drawn to this pink bag

QueenCremant · 24/04/2021 10:35

this has to be one of the weirdest dresses ever

QueenCremant · 24/04/2021 10:37

gorgeous

QueenCremant · 24/04/2021 11:09

@BlairWaldorfLovesShopping, I forgot to say thank you for the soolantra recommendation. I had come across that on other searches. It’s just difficult to know whether it is rosacea or not. I wear a surgical mask for 3 days and some of them are pretty scratchy so it may just be a reaction to that. They mostly come from China and I dread to think what chemicals have been used. I could do with a month off work to see if my skin settles!

libertyonhertravels · 10/05/2021 10:58

I think the lack of mojo around clothes that queenc has described must be universal among the Voguettes given how quiet it is on here.

I have been MIA as we moved into our new house just over 2 weeks ago and I have been unpacking ever since! I love the house and it feels like home already despite not being properly sorted yet. I feel like I can see myself being here for 20 years.

I'm not going to be buying much for a while. We have several maintenance jobs we need to do on the house and I just dont feel very inspired. I am also feeling pretty dumpy so I have quit drinking during the week and started going to exercise classes 3 mornings per week. Hoping to feel more energetic soon.

VivaVegas · 10/05/2021 12:33

Congratulations on the move Liberty.

Not sure about everyone else but outdoor socialising and having to wear your winter coat and hat isn't all it's cracked up to be and what you wear under the coat become all about staying warm and dry!

Roll on next week when indoor socialising becomes possible, I cannot wait to get dressed up to go out, not in the freezing cold!

Have seriously lost my mojo in general though so need something to pick me up!

libertyonhertravels · 13/05/2021 10:57

Thanks viva

I agree dressing for outdoor socialising in the cooler months is not much fun.

One of my colleagues wore such a fab outfit to work today. A just to the knee very fitted black pencil skirt, with an oversized boat neck, drop sleeve white sweater with thin black stripes, worn half tucked. High block heeled black sandals. It was very 80's but looked really current.

It's getting cold here and so dark. Start of winter.

LoveFromDeauville · 15/05/2021 18:34

Huge congrats on the new house @libertyonhertravels - a real fresh start. I hope you’re all very happy.

No style news here. Been really hot and I have been wearing shorts and blouses for work which is a bit of a ridiculous combination but so many zoom calls ... so like to at least pretend I am looking relatively corporate!

Stokey · 15/05/2021 18:49

Hello all, new house sounds lovely Lib, so great you can see yourself there for a long time after all your recent moves.

Totally with you on the weather Viva, it's been rubbish. I'm going out tonight and think there's no point wearing anything nice under my leopardskin coat as I'm not planning on taking it off! I did just get this midi dress from Whistles though so may wear that with polo neck, leggings & boots underneath.... Would rather drift around in the sun in it though!

QueenCremant · 15/05/2021 19:17

Hi all, this weather is truly miserable isn’t it?
I’ve found my style mojo a little bit now although like everyone else it would be nice not to hide under a coat.
I’ve packed away winter stuff except 2 jumpers (which I’m wearing this weekend!) and I’ve put away my skinniest skinny jeans a, because I feel fat in them and b, they feel dated. Still wearing some of my looser skinnies though but have found some girlfriend jeans in H&M which I’m looking forward to wearing.
I’m away next weekend and going for afternoon tea so hoping the weather warms a bit as I’d like to wear a dress. But at least we’ll be inside!!!

QueenCremant · 15/05/2021 19:18

New dress

VivaVegas · 16/05/2021 09:37

Lovely dress Queen very you!

And agree I cannot wait to meet inside again and think about dressing up a little.

I have a H and M order to unpack, mostly bits for DS but ever the optimist there's a couple of summer dresses in there for me!

I need to wean myself if skinny skinnies too but have yet to find anything else that I don't feel frumpy in!

shopafrolic · 17/05/2021 15:26

What is this weather? It’s bloody hailing?! Thunder, lightening and now the sun’s shining again.
Anyway, just dropping in to share this Spring’s ‘basic’ white tee which seems pretty good quality. Nice cut, decent sleeve and not too low a v neck. Selected Femme t-shirt
I've ordered some Rag&Bone jeans from the Outnet which I’ll link if any good. Lockdown and starting HRT has meant I’ve piled on a few lbs so my skinnies are uncomfortable at the moment.
We have a new dog (2nd cocker spaniel) though so I am walking miles each day which I’m hoping will help.
DH treated me to an Apple Watch which I am loving and it is definitely motifvating me to do more - although I had to turn the reminders to breathe off Grin
I’ve also started the free trial of Audible and am finding Anya Hindmarch’s book interesting.
How’s everyone feeling with lockdown easing? My 2nd jab is at the end of this month so I’m hoping my confidence levels improve after that. At the moment I’m in no rush to do too much but then every now and again I hate myself for being stuck in a rut.
@Stokey and @QueenCremant I can totally see you in your dress links - fab.

Thanks for the dress love.
shop I’m loving getting out more. But I guess I’ve been around colleagues and patients at work so I’m used to people. Not sure I’d be ready to go a nightclub with loads of bodies but I’m certainly ready for the pub!

I made a decision that I’m going to get my colours done again. Not because I want to be slave to a season again but because I genuinely cannot see what suits me. The winter colours feel too harsh as my hair has gone darker (menopause) and my skin has gone redder (mask wearing) and I feel like I clash with bright colours. The did order a couple of pale pink things and I can see that they make me look dead as I know I look awful in mustard/orange etc. But I can’t seem to find anything that really lifts me. It’s a mum from school rather than Hoc so I’m hoping we can just have a play and give me some colour confidence back.

Doh posted to the wrong thread, this was meant for them what's happened to S&B thread. Blush

I'll get MN to remove it.

shopafrolic · 20/05/2021 09:55

@MissKittyKitty I just had a read. Lots of interesting points. I know we bought MNV back because people were asking where we were, but I am again wondering whether it is time to retire it?
We used to get lots of lovey newbies on here with various tastes and lots of links to share. We discussed trends, shared the best places to buy basics, went on endless searches for the perfect jeans.
Life has changed, the way we live is changing. I still want to appreciate beautiful things, but without the links and the chat, it’s hard to do here....
Would love thoughts?

It is hard to keep it going, I know I’ve been slack

I’d love to keep it open to reinvigoration at some point. Not sure it’s possible but I think of all the good times, including those amazing MUs and I feel a bit sad saying bye!

VivaVegas · 20/05/2021 10:33

I wonder if things will change now as people start to have a reason to dress up a bit more and go out.

I've got a couple of nights out booked in the next few weeks and so look forward to wearing something nice, doing my make up and thinking about what jewellery to wear.

Let's face it socialising outside has all that's been on offer for months and that's been about comfort and warmth, not much style going on!

I'm also planning on heading to my nearest high for an afternoon of shopping and lunch, can't wait.

More than done with staying home and wearing jeans and a hoody of my workout stuff!

Although I did try a pair of my heels on the other day, OMG could hardly walk in them!

MarshaBradyo · 20/05/2021 10:37

I’ve got some stuff too Viva

Including a wedding! Quite excited about that thought my wedding invite days had dwindled. A big proper one (fingers crossed)

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 20/05/2021 10:48

I've got 3 weddings this summer! (Don't foil my plans Boris!)

I wouldn't want to abandon the threads. We need everyone back! Maybe some fresh blood too?

QueenCremant · 20/05/2021 13:12

I don’t think it necessarily needs retiring as it’s nice to dip into every now and then. I took a massive break from it but am quite enjoying being back here.

I think it’s fair to say that when each individual joined they needed fashion/style help. We’ve become a victim of our own success by finding our own style Grin.

As the years have gone by I’ve also got more wary of posting too much personal stuff online. Mumsnet used to feel a safe place but not any more as there’s constant trolls, daily mail using threads etc.

shopafrolic · 20/05/2021 13:13

I’d love some fresh blood. In fact, here is my wishlist:

  1. Newbies who love friendly fashion chat
  2. Links to stuff we love, even if we will never buy it due to budget / lifestyle
  3. Chat about decent basics - if we are all in loungewear, exercisewear, jeans etc where are we buying it from? Best place for t-shirts, denim, knitwear etc.
  4. Colour chat - I know a lot of us had our colours done but currently I have no idea who is what (used to have an understanding of who was who, style type, colours etc)
  5. Beauty chat - what works, what do we repurchase etc - budget buys and £££ treats
  6. Outfit planning chat for those of us starting to go out / holiday more
  7. a bloody massive MU

I don’t ask for much do I?

Oh and TV / book recommendations with a style theme always appreciated

Queen you are right in that it has become a victim of its own success. I now know my style although I like to step out of my comfort zone every now and again.

Do you think the name Vogue is off putting? It would have been great to have gotten to the 100th edition but I don't think that'll happen anytime soon.

Maybe us core should still chat but to make it more inclusive perhaps lose the Vogue title as Im sure that puts a lot of posters off.

I don't want to retire us however I do feel we need a re-birth. A new name/title/focus etc

What do you think?

QueenCremant · 20/05/2021 13:34

Ooh a rebirth...I like it....
