New thread. Let’s get the vanilla away, lockdown done, and the citrus and coconut out.

Blimey, that is a fab offer, @Housewife2010

@FloraMacDonald Sarah McCartney does an amazing online perfume school on Patreon. It's called Scenthusiasm . I'm a subscriber although I haven't ordered the kit.

MissBattleaxe · 07/06/2021 00:10

@Housewife2010 welcome! And what a brilliant tip off!

Housewife2010 · 07/06/2021 06:41

@MissBattleaxe Thank you.

FloraMacDonald · 07/06/2021 08:54

I've fallen in love! This is The One. It's forever. 💕

Ambre Russe by Parfum d'Empire. What do you mean it's almost identical to Black Calamus? Of course it's not. Don't be ridiculous.Grin

MissBattleaxe · 07/06/2021 11:32

Hi everyone, hope you're all doing well. I just reviewed the Perfume Society Launches We Love box on the blog. My stand out favourite is Louboutin Loubirouge but I'm never going to be able to afford a full bottle. Really good selection all in all.

SOTD 4160 Tuesdays Killer Rose from the tidying up sale.

Housewife2010 · 07/06/2021 11:34

SOTD An old Summer favourite - Tarocco by Diptyque. Gorgeous slightly spiced powdery orange and gorgeous in hot weather.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 07/06/2021 11:44

SOTD Diptyque Geranium Odorata. The sun has gone here today, booooo.

Hi all
Welcome posters old and new!
Sotd 4160 SSOTPE parfum
Love this stuff 💜
I've just bought a 15ml of black velvet cafe in their tidying up sale 😀

MrsRLynde · 07/06/2021 20:59

Tarocco sounds like the 70s version of Aqua Manda, Housewife? Early scent memories...Smile. The reissue didn't measure up.

Geranium Oderata also sounds lovely, Judy. Your making me want to dig out my very old Missoni with the geranium opening. Or Geranium Bourbon...

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 07/06/2021 22:38

have worn no perfume all day as ive been too hot and fed up but i think im going to have a squirt of opium now its cooled off

wore Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb Midnight last night, exactly my kind of loud and proud white flower bomb :)

MissBattleaxe · 08/06/2021 15:28

Hi everyone. Hope you're all well and enjoying some sunshine.

SOTD Molton Brown Coastal Cypress and Sea Fennel. I had a little EDT sample and was overjoyed with it. It smells exactly like Boots Sea Kelp shampoo, which I used. I always wished they'd make a perfume of it.

Mrs08 · 08/06/2021 16:00

Hi @MissBattleaxe 👋
Hi everyone 👋
Lovely sunshine today 😎
Sotd 4160 SSOTPE parfum strength💜
(I didn't realise it was parfum until I looked at the bottle!)
I get my 2 avon purchases later today - exciting!
I went for ambre Ardent and oud granduer - not the weather perhaps but hey ho
It's dhs birthday so I'm making his favourite tea (steak chips and onion rings) and he requested Scones so just took a batch out of the oven 🥧
I'm having to use my portable ac unit at night now..
It's just too hot for me 😔
Enjoy the rest of your day x

MissBattleaxe · 08/06/2021 16:20

@mrs08 I hope you love Oud Grandeur and Ambre Ardent. I adored them both. A bit of a departure from Avon and right up my street.

EvelynBeatrice · 08/06/2021 19:20

I had a Molton Brown day too - Juniper Jazz. Like it a lot, but not a love. Doesn’t last long.

Mrs08 · 08/06/2021 20:35

@MissBattleaxe
The perfumes have arrived and I love both of them 😍
Oud grandeur is unusual. It's really not in your face at all, in fact I sprayed 2 hours ago and can no longer smell it...
Ambre Ardent is a gorgeously smooth Amber. Hopefully it'll last longer!
Thanks for the recommendation 😀
I might go for patchouli indulgence next!

Sotd 4160 SSOTPE

Off to the hairdressers later. Ugh. I hate it.

MrsRLynde · 10/06/2021 09:00

Morning All. SotD is Weil's Silver. This is a very satisfying modern cheapy which has distinct similarities with older formulations of the original Eau Sauvage. Fragrantica classify as a fougere - but I'd say a citrus aromatic. Big lemon/herbaeous opening and a gently spicy herbal middle and a soft woody/musky base. It's got a bit more body/gravitas than a cologne, but isn't far from that sort of refreshing/aromatic style. Thoroughly unisex and FABULOUS on a hot day.

More generally on Weil, I have some vintage Zibeline (complex old school floral aldehyde hailing originally from the 1920s). I then hit on a bargain bottle of one of their modern confections, Suki Essence, at TK Maxx, and was blown away as this is a really great labadnum rich scent that nods in the direction of L'AdDM whilst being somehow more 'modern', lighter and versatile.

I had to a bit of detective work on Silver - turns out that was the branding for the US market - and in Europe it was bottled as Wise Essence. Similarly, there is a Gold (Woody Essence) which I might have to try and track down...

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 10/06/2021 09:21

SOTD Heeley Sel Marin - I am just cycling between this and TF Soleil Blanc at the moment while it's warm, very boring.

Weil's Silver sounds interesting, @MrsRLynde - I have not heard of this brand at all so need to have a wee look.

How is the hair, @Mrs08 ? I am always surprised to hear people don't like getting their hair done. I LOVE my hairdresser and go every five weeks religiously. It does feel much more like a "service" than an "experience" or a "treatment" now with masks, no coffee (or a glass of wine!), no magazines, and those horrible plastic disposable capes which are SO sweaty.

OP posts:
MissBattleaxe · 10/06/2021 10:03

@mrs08 so glad you like them! I loved Oud Grandeur despite not normally liking oud. It's toned down a bit but it's definitely an oud I can get into bed with! Ambre Ardent reminds me of Ambre de Cabochard. I really like it.

MissBattleaxe · 10/06/2021 10:05

@EvelynBeatrice yes they don't last ages as EDTs ( and for the price) but the EDPs are a bit different. For example the EDP of Coastal Cypress and Sea Fennel has added leather for some reason.

Mrs08 · 10/06/2021 20:32

judy
I HATE it. Always have. I quote like my hairdresser and we always have a good chat but its just so boring. And ££££££!
missb I really like them both :)

PearsMorgan · 11/06/2021 07:22

Ah the summer! Scents of the week MH le pamplemousse and goutal encens flamboyant on rotate. Also finished a sample of POAL that I had kicking around - very odd on me, it lasts about 10 minutes then just disappears. Struggling with the news that we’re all expected back in the office when restrictions lift which is going to mean wearing socially acceptable amounts of perfume only.

I guess the Ffern summer will be along in a minute...expecting to cancel and should probably come off the ledger.

MrsRLynde · 11/06/2021 08:16

Like Pears, I am on a summer rotation of Acqua de Colonia Concentrada, A la Reines des Fleurs, Silver (Weil), and Azzaro Pour Homme. This is partly because I haven't quite got the right place for perfumes in the new place yet, so newer purchases are closer at hand.

Azzaro Pour Homme turned up in TK Maxx and is one of the Luca Turin 5 stars and turns up on loads of desert island lists. It has not disappointed. Lavender, soft leather and moss, and bitter but soft herbs in between; it is a very classy aromatic and very enjoyable to wear this time of year. Fans of Feu Follet and vintage Diorling should run to get a bottle of this.

It reminds me in style a bit of Halston's Z14, although that feels much bolder and showier with its big cinnamon twist. The parallels to Feu Follet and Diorling remind me of how daft and arbitrary it is to describe scent molecules as being either feminine or masculine.

MrsRLynde · 11/06/2021 08:33

And now wondering where my Encens Flamboyant is...
