I posted a while ago about foundation...tell me your best high street brand and best highend brand!!!

In a dream world I'd love a foundation that actualy lasts on my skin and doesn't show up every line on my face! Recently tried true match it just sat on my skin, settled into fine lines and then vanished.

Estée Lauder Double wear is my favourite- I've tried lots of others but keep going back to that one.

Teeny bit of a hijack here but has EL reduced their foundation lines lately?

They only seem to do Double Wear in all kinds of guises, or there is a new one in a tube, or the very expensive one in a glass bottle.

It's not that long ago that they did one called Water fresh (or similar) as I had samples of it.

High street fav is www.boots.com/no7-hydraluminous-moisturising-foundation-10262468 this is a moisturising foundation, beautiful finish, natural, never clings, great for winter, outshines a lot of high end foundations I've used.

Favourite high end is Chanel le teint velvet foundation, more for spring/summer.

QueenPaw · 11/02/2021 00:56

High street - no 7 hydra luminous as above!
High end - Mac waterweight

BusterGonad · 11/02/2021 01:39

High end Estee Lauder double wear water fresh (discontinued), I also have the normal DW which is thick, you are best applying with a damp sponge straight after a thick moisturiser. I do like to mix both DW's to make a medium cover foundation. I've actually ordered a Bobbi Brown skin foundation stick which has rave reviews and has won numerous awards, I want it because of ease of application and its very good for dry and aging skin. I'm dry and 42 yo so it's more about the moisture than the aging bit, I'm not very wrinkly. I've had to guess my shade but I'm confident I have it right as I've researched and found my DW BB alternative shade. Low end I quite like the Revlon candid glow foundation. And the No7 Superstay light in the black square bottle. The one I always regret not buying was the DW BB cushion stick thingy.

BusterGonad · 11/02/2021 01:42

Also if anyone is missing the DW water fresh apparently the Mac Water Weight is very similar, same ingredients and finish. I cannot vouch for it as I've never used the Mac one but a foundation comparison website said they were something like 90% + the same.

whatizthis · 11/02/2021 03:57

DW is so cakey on my skin.

Morphe skin tint for high street. It's very buildable so even though it's called tint it can be full coverage.

High end - Chantecaille Future Skin. It's so beautiful.

Rina66 · 11/02/2021 04:30

I’ve been using DW for nearly 30 years! These days I mix it with a Advanced Night repair serum and the Iconic Illuminator - that gives me a lighter weight, long lasting, skin treating glowy foundation. I always have 2 shades on the go too, due to my love of Tan Luxe drops and Sleep Oil.
I’ve tried so many new foundations over the years, mostly high end, but nothing compares to DW. Most of the companies are owned by Estée Lauder anyway!

littleburn · 11/02/2021 05:49

Huda Beauty Faux Filter is great. I'd never been that keen on full coverage, long-wearing foundations (can't get on with DW), but this one lasts and makes my skin look soft focus and glowy rather than dry. I found it works best with the matching primer, and to apply and blend a section at a time (rather than dot all over and then blend) as it 'sets' very quickly.

Don't have a high street recommendation, but as the Huda one is highly pigmented a little goes a very long way - use about a quarter of a pump per wear.

hedgehoghutch · 11/02/2021 06:47

Maybelline fit me
Nars sheer glow

hedgehoghutch · 11/02/2021 06:57

Or IT cosmetics cc cream .. coverage depends on how much you use it has raving reviews . Im not a fan of the scent tho so I don't use it daily

BusterGonad · 11/02/2021 07:27

I also have 2 DW's Cool Vanila and Tawny. If I've been in the sun I add a touch of Tawny, I also add Tawny to my other too pale foundations. It was definitely worth paying out for.

MellowBird85 · 11/02/2021 07:39

I second Huda Beauty Faux Filter, I’m a bit obsessed with foundations and this is the best I’ve ever used. High street I’d recommend Maybelline Superstay.

Fispi · 11/02/2021 09:36

High street - No7 protect and perfect all in one foundation

High end - Estee Lauder double wear light or Erborian BB au ginseng.

Always seem to go back to Estee Lauder

Crappyfridays7 · 11/02/2021 09:49

I used to use dw also but found it too thick and coverage was too much for a daily use so kept it for evenings out. Bought the lighter version which is nice, I think it’s slightly dark for me just now though.

I have the Bobbi brown stick - I I used to use the benefit one (party stix or similar ) before they were discontinued. I found the bb a bit dry and didn’t blend well at all. Benefit have since brought out more foundation sticks which are lovely so I’ve bought one and it’s lovely.

I use trinny BFF for day to day, nice and light
Gives me a bit of a glow

mackvic4 · 11/02/2021 09:54

estee lauder double wear or huda beauty faux filter and mac face and body, I always use a primer too to get the best out of my foundation and this will stop it creasing. also maybe a setting spray or powder to set your foundation to stop it moving.

Dyinghouseplant · 11/02/2021 09:56

The ordinary serum foundation
Nars sheer glow

workshy44 · 11/02/2021 10:23

Chantecaille Future Skin. Agree this is the best I have ever tried and I have tried the lot !

GnTplease · 11/02/2021 10:57

If anyone is an IT cosmetics CC cream lover, ELF have just released their camo cc cream which is pretty much identical and only £14!

Rina66 · 11/02/2021 11:40

Does it last @workshy44? Everything other than DW is never there by lunchtime, but it’s on my collars, paperwork, phone and surfaces!

BobbinThreadbare123 · 11/02/2021 11:50

High street - L'Oreal True Match
Excellent range of colours, lasts all day, very reasonable price

High end - Estee Lauder Double Wear Light
It just looks the most natural on me and I'm not allergic to it, plus it lasts

StepOutOfLine · 11/02/2021 13:58

If you want something that doesn't cake, you really don't want DW!

Since I've been using Hydraluminous I've ditched the high end. I have (,in the search for my holy grail) got: YSL Éclat whatsit, Armani Luminous Silk, Chanel Vitalumiere, Chanel Lift Lumiere, Clinique Repairwear, Bobbi Brown serum foundation, Nars Sheer glow...and others.

None even come close to Hydraluminous. The nearest best thing, covers but never cakes, is the Clinique but I think it's discontinued.

workshy44 · 11/02/2021 14:10

Yes it does, is a v v natural finish though. No seeping into wrinkles making them look worse. My sister gave up foundation for that very reason but uses this when I got it for her. its v expensive but lasts forever although I am not wearing anything since lockdown !

BobbinThreadbare123 · 11/02/2021 15:04

@BusterGonad the EL DW cushion stick was good. It was so wasteful though - I used to dismantle the whole thing to get at all of the foundation (defeats the object of the cushion really).
