DH wants to buy me Uggs. Are they still ‘a thing’? Other suggestions welcomed.

Just that really.
DH wants to splash some cash having brought COVID home and grounded me. I am still off unwell after 5 weeks and in need of cheer.
My skin is like sandpaper as a result so dealing with that could be an option. Jewellery is a possibility.
Make me a wish list.

I have some vintage Drapers boots which are leather and sheepskin lined. Love them.

I have a pair of knitted ugg boots that I wear as slippers so I can also step outside in them. I’ve basically lived in them since winter started this year. I’ve never found anything that’s as easy to pull on and as cosy. I wear flip flops the rest of the year, I cannot handle restrictive or uncomfortable shoes!

Pigtailsandall · 09/02/2021 17:27

I had Sketchers boots, similar to Uggs, years ago and though toasty I didn't really use them. It's too wet in the UK to really wear them outside (drenched uggs just make everyone look like a soaked dog imo). I've been eyeing a sheepskin birkenstock slippers but will now have a look as to how ethical they are...

NellietheNumpty · 09/02/2021 17:28

@SinkGirl
Thanks it is the Draper ones I have been looking at as an ethical alternative. Can you tell me a bit more about them.

If they’re for wearing outside (Ugg’s are definitely just slippers for inside the house!) then j would go for a pair of sorrels with the wool lining! So comfy, waterproof and last forever.

I have a pair of ankle high ones and I love them but only for wearing inside. They are perfect slippers for my cold house.

addicted2spaniels · 09/02/2021 18:04

The traditional Uggs are horribly flat and don't do your feet any favours. However I've got 2 pairs of their Bonham chelsea boots and love love love them.

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 09/02/2021 18:47

Ultra short Ugg's are back in fashion but not the longer ones .. I still wear my waterproof noira's . In fact today they were amazing in the snow ! Soo warm ! But fashionable , no !

QueenOfCakeandCoffee · 09/02/2021 19:01

I’ve been wearing mine since Christmas and love them

VienneseWhirligig · 09/02/2021 19:04

I have some. They aren't the standard tan ones, they are black suede zip up, calf length. I love them, they are so comfy. They have a proper sole so my feet don't slope to the side.

Craftycorvid · 09/02/2021 19:08

Currently wearing a fake pair as my houseboots. Don’t think I’d wear outside though. Celtic & Co has some lovely versions of that style of boot just now.

EmGee · 09/02/2021 20:47

I got some navy UGG mini boots last year in the sale to use as slippers. I was sick of buying proper slippers and wearing a hole in the toe after one winter. I'm hoping the Uggs will last longer. They are toasty warm and I live in a freezing house with tiles floors!!!!

dudsville · 09/02/2021 21:13

By Uggs I presume you mean the iconic slipper boot? They do actual outdoor shoes too so just checking. I've got a traditional flat round toe ugg boot in leather at a low ankle height with a zip that I can wear out.

out. Jjjgfyifg justify judging being heung crying gigi begin gin

JaceLancs · 09/02/2021 21:13

Original ugg boots are not my thing - but I adore their slippers and have 3 pairs of walking boots plus some everyday boots - love the warmth and comfort

dudsville · 09/02/2021 21:14

Oops. Sorry my phone froze!

Trumpton · 09/02/2021 21:32

Also look at Celtic & Co. Cornish firm . Amazing boots and slippers . I wear their slippers for years and their boots are the bee’s knees for comfort.
Brilliant after sales service as well.

SarahBellam · 09/02/2021 22:01

Wearing sheepskin is no different to wearing leather or suede. They don’t actually rip it off the live animal. It is a byproduct of the meat industry. My DD wouldn’t wear them as she’s a vegetarian. I wouldn’t wear them because they’re they’re the sort of things that are worn by the people who wear their pyjamas to Tesco.

Belindabelle · 09/02/2021 22:15

I wear Ugg boots as slippers as I live in an old house with draughty wooden and flagstone floors. Normal slippers are not warm enough and are torn to shreds in weeks by the uneven floors. I wouldn’t wear them outside of my garden. I also have a pair of there lined leather biker style boots. They are getting a fair amount of wear this week and are coping well with the snow.

My skin has been terrible lately. Literally peeling off. Wileda Skin Food is thick, gloopy and a bit smelly but it is working wonders for me.

FlyingByTheSeatof · 09/02/2021 23:01

I've just dug mine out of the loft. Yes they're fine to wear out again as certain influencers etc are being paid to wear them Grin Thank god for that because they're warm and cosy and it's winter and freezing.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 09/02/2021 23:39

I have Ugg type sheepskin boots I wear as slippers - so cosy for working from home, and great for going out to get the cat in, put bins out etc. We also have a cold house. I wouldn’t wear them out beyond an emergency dash to the corner shop though.

ShyAmy333 · 10/02/2021 08:18

I wear them as slippers dont go out in them at all. Strangely my other half is a big fan of the Uggs and leggings look

Snally82 · 10/02/2021 08:31

Ugg’s is misleading! I have Ugg’s but they are biker style boots almost... there are so many options now!

Chickoletta · 10/02/2021 08:33

Sheepskin is a byproduct of the meat industry. Better to use it than throw us away, surely? I can understand not wearing sheepskin if you are vegan/vegetarian but if you eat meat, surely you can have no qualms about this...?

Chickoletta · 10/02/2021 08:36

I don’t think that the short ones every went out of style here in Cornwall where we have a more relaxed outdoorsy/surfy style. I have a similar pair by FitFlop which I find more supportive but similarly cosy.

FamilyOfAliens · 10/02/2021 08:41

Is sheepskin a by-product of the meat industry? Do we eat a lot of mutton in this country?

There was a really informative post on a thread about Canada Goose coats a couple of days ago and the subject of wearing animal products came up in the context of the cruelty involved in making CG coats.

IIRC the belief that leather is a by-product of the meat industry is a fallacy, as the leather is actually what makes the money, so I was wondering if it’s the same for sheepskin. I’ll see if I can find it again.
