I am treating myself to a luxurious lipstick - is the Charlotte Tillbury Pillow Talk as good as the claims? Does it really suit everyone?

I like the texture of her lipstick (I own 9 😳) but pillow talk doesn't suit me at all.

I look like the living dead in it (thankfully I had a tester in another order of it so didn't buy it).

That said my lips are naturally quite dark even if my skin is moderately fair. The CT shade that's neutral to me is Bond Girl and that along with Walk of Shame are my favourites.

I think PT looks lovely on a lot of people, I'm just not one of them and if your lips are quite pigmented naturally I'd guess you'd find it as unflattering as I do.

MrsDrudge · 29/01/2021 18:30

Thank you @DeRigueurMortis, that’s helpful

I have Bond Girl which is flattering on my super pale skin. I also really like Amazing Grace and Sexy Sienna.

MrsDrudge · 29/01/2021 19:44

@ZaraW will take a look at those too, I do have quite a pale skin.

I hated it.

Along with the rest of her crappy make up.

Rimmel quality in high end packaging. Worst £200 I ever spent.

Can you tell I hated it Grin

violetbunny · 29/01/2021 19:51

Meh, I don't love Pillow Talk but I do love a lot of her other makeup. I quite like the lipstick Bitch Perfect and also her eyeshadow quads (especially the newer ones that have come out over the last year or so and have a different formula) are amazing.

DianaT1969 · 29/01/2021 19:55

Don't know about the lipstick, but I treated myself to the mascara and it's all hype. Clumpy and nothing special. I feel ripped off because there are several in Superdrug for around £7 that were better.

SummaLuvin · 29/01/2021 20:00

I have Hepburn Honey, in the KISSING finish, it feels great on the lips, even when dry or chapped it looks good. Doesn't just sink into the fine lines on my lips like other lipsticks have.

I generally like her products but agree with @DianaT1969 on the mascara. I tried one and found it flaked really badly and I was left with black smudges around my eyes.

Roselilly36 · 29/01/2021 20:03

I was tempted to order, but reading threads on here, talked me out of it.

Livvygator · 29/01/2021 20:06

I bought an eyeshadadow palette with only 4 colours in for £42 and its not great quality. My maybelline palette which was £30 cheaper is much better!!

SummaLuvin · 29/01/2021 20:13

In terms of other products:

Beachstick - loved it, may be discontinued, easy to blend, good colour pay off.
Light Wonder Foundation - nice, but not the best for my oily skin.
Look in a Palette - 3 eyeshadows, 2 blush, bronzer, and highlighter, lasted ages, big mirror, good quality, useable colours, no duds.
Pressed Powder - butter soft, and sets foundation beautifully without taking away all the glow, doesn't leave skin flat.
Eyebrow Gel - really nice small wand for precision, Iiked it but my very bushy eyebrows could do with a firmer hold.

Aneley · 29/01/2021 20:17

The only CT product I love (and keep going back to) is pressed powder - Airbrush Flawless Finish. Many better lipsticks in that range. Check out Wayne Goss new collection.

coronafiona · 29/01/2021 20:21

Try beauty and the boutique, it's run by a makeup artist who reviews everything. I've only had one mistake from there in years of buying

EssexLioness · 29/01/2021 20:22

Tried her mascara, eyeshadow and lip gloss and thought they were all dreadful. Used her foundation which was ok but not as good as my usual Urban Decay one. Overall I found the products mediocre and overpriced

MrsDrudge · 29/01/2021 22:15

Hmmm some mixed reviews here. I think I’ll wait until I can try it before I splash out and make an expensive mistake.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 29/01/2021 22:18

I really like Pillow Talk and Walk of Shame lipstick.

The mascara is crap

DeRigueurMortis · 29/01/2021 23:02

I agree the mascara is rubbish.

I also think the foundations are "ok" but not worth the price.

That said there are some great products in the range:

  • lipsticks
  • eye quads
  • beach sticks
  • lip/eye pencils are really good
  • powder blush
  • face powder - excellent
  • brow gel
Puffler · 30/01/2021 08:27

Mascara is awful, foundation is awful, blusher is average so not worth the price, wonder cream is average so not worth the price.

Lipsticks are fantastic. Love them.

Pillow talk doesn’t suit me, I need a darker colour, but the lipstick quality is excellent.

EssexLioness · 30/01/2021 08:52

Oh yes, I forgot I also bought her powder blusher and that was the only thing I would buy again. It is lovely and a really pretty natural colour on me

Fastedbrownie · 30/01/2021 08:55

Meh. Got it in the advent calendar this year, can take it or leave it. What I really miss is Rosie Huntington-Whitely's make-up brand at M&S, which was basically a low priced spoof of Charlotte, but her signiture lipsick really was a gorgeous universal.

Oh, to be in 2017 again.

GnTplease · 30/01/2021 09:16

@Fastedbrownie me too - wish I'd known it was being discontinued and I would have stocked up. The lip glossy in supermodel smile was my absolute holy grail lip product.
As for CT I'm very pale with naturally corpse like lips and pillow talk is lovely. I also like JK Magic. Other favs are Hollywood flawless filter which i use as a really light glowy base or highlight, the powder is excellent and the eyeshadow quads are too. Foundation, blush and mascara were all pretty underwhelming.

EssexLioness · 30/01/2021 09:35

It’s strange how much success the brand has with so many people finding their products disappointing and overpriced. Interesting reading these comments

SummaLuvin · 30/01/2021 09:50

@EssexLioness different people seek out different things. I have heard people say they love a blush because it is super pigmented and you get a lot of bang for your buck, others recommended one because it is far less pigmented and therefore easier to work with and not pack on too much accidentally. Difference in age and skin type also can hugely effect how products work for you. As well as application techniques, tools, and skill.

EssexLioness · 30/01/2021 13:32

@SummaLuvin yes very true! Wasn’t really thinking when I posted. Different products suit different people. I guess I was just disappointed after all the hype. But I guess plenty of others must really suit their products

Melange99 · 30/01/2021 13:47

I have found a lot of CT products mediocre and overpriced, and the packaging is dated now. The only things I would repeat buy are Hollywood Filter and the blusher. The M & S Autograph range which was duping CT was far better quality - I still have some of the lippies. CT Pillow Talk is not a universal shade. I am pale with pigment aged lips and it looks dreadful.
