I am treating myself to a luxurious lipstick - is the Charlotte Tillbury Pillow Talk as good as the claims? Does it really suit everyone?

I’m a big fan of CT lipsticks, I find them moisturising with good colour pay off. The website is very good for putting in your colouring and seeing what suits you.
Pillow talk lipstick is great on some people and not for others, much like everything really. It’s the lipliner that really is amazing, honestly. It’s the original Pillow Talk product and a slightly nicer colour. I often use it to colour in my lips with nothing else on top. It can be used as a neutral lipliner for other colours or lip base too. It’s worth a go.

The nudes are great, but you need to think about whether you need a ‘pinky’ nude or a cooler browny one. Penelope pink is a pinky nude and JK magic too.

Melange99 · 30/01/2021 15:42

I don't get the lipliner, it is no different from one you get from Rimmel.

Ithinkhedidit · 30/01/2021 15:54

I really like Charlotte Tilbury PT. It's my favourite nude lipstick. I am fair with naturally quite red lips. I like the brand overall to be honest- I have a couple of lip products, a concealer and an eyeshadow palette. It gets pretty negative review on mn but I really like it!

passthemustard · 30/01/2021 16:06

I love pillow talk lipstick and lip liner. It's the only lipstick I use now tbh. I don't have any other CT products though

Bananaman123 · 30/01/2021 20:08

Very pale skin here but suit pinks and browns. Do not like my pillow talk at all, i find mac lipsticks wear betfer and have nicer shades. I find all CT overpriced and underwhelming

Imissmoominmama · 30/01/2021 20:14

I started a CT thread a few months ago. I wasted a lot of money because I went ahead and ordered anyway.

The foundation sits in the creases and makes me look haggard a couple of hours after I’ve applied it (Boots no 7 CC cream is better); the mascara is wet and clumpy; the concealer is dry, and the lip gloss is glittery.

Not great, I’m afraid!

Housewife2010 · 30/01/2021 20:36

I loved the M&S Rosie for Autograph range. The eyeshadow sticks and lipsticks were excellent. I didn't think they were duping Charlotte Tilbury though. I have Tilbury & Rosie lipsticks. The Rosie one have far nicer, heavier and more expensive looking and feeling packaging. The Tilbury lipstick packaging feels very light and looks cheap in comparison.

EloiseBridgerton · 30/01/2021 20:48

Like others bough ct and found it a complete waste of money. The pillow talk colour was a boring browny shade that is too pale and therefore obvious on my face. Not subtle at all. Much prefer other brands

FinalSongbird · 30/01/2021 20:49

Another who really regrets buying her make up, the mascara made my lashes fall out!

Housewife2010 · 30/01/2021 20:53

I repeat buy the Pillow Talk lipliner which is excellent, but I don't like the PT lipstick. I find it too pale to be flattering. I love the CT Glowing Jen lipstick which is a beautifully flattering tawny rose shade. It has fantastic leopard print packaging too.

DeRigueurMortis · 31/01/2021 00:51

I own a lot of CT make up.

As I've posted above the range is not universally brilliant.

Frankly, when they do something well they do it really well, but by the same token when something is bad it is really bad.

I think it's why as a brand it's so divisive.

A lot depends on what people have bought.

So concealer for example. They have done 2 versions. The original (not great) then a second "magic" one in a wand which I think is brilliant.

So when people post I hate x you also need to think about which version they hated.

Overall my view on CT is that is brilliant at powder products (powder/blush/eyeshadow) and pencil products (eye and lip liner plus the eyeshadow sticks).

It's also very good at cream products, lipstick, and the new cream blushes.

It's awful on anything liquid - so mascara, foundation, liquid lipstick etc.

The only exceptions to the above are wonderglow primer and the unisex healthy glow re: liquids and the Hollywood flawless filter.

In addition the skincare is best avoided. It's expensive and very much style over substance. Frankly nivea do better.

MrsDrudge · 31/01/2021 17:19

Hmmm - more and more uncomplimentary reviews. I’m definitely not ordering until I can go and try it.
In the meantime I’ll choose an alternative treat.
Thank you to everyone who responded.

What you could do is look for dupes. Put in the CT product in Google and check if there are any credible and cheaper dupes.

Amortentia · 31/01/2021 17:37

Pillow talk looks weird on my very pale, neutral skin tone. But, I’d strongly recommend Very Victoria. I have the M&S Rosie supermodel lipstick, it’s nice but it doesn’t last on my lips, the CT Vert Vic is very similar but Matt so lasts longer.

Wrinklyeyes · 31/01/2021 18:26

I like the PT lipstick (am pale) but the PT mascara is very over-priced - much prefer Hourglass.

Am also a fan of the magic cream, eye liners and chameleon eye pencil (I use bronzed garnet).

But I hate the foundation. And the eyeshadow palettes just sink into my skin and the colour wears off after about an hour.

TheChosenTwo · 31/01/2021 18:40

Ooh no, it’s the biggest lie going! “Universally flattering” my arse, makes me look dead. It’s more like concealer on my lips!
I have had a lot of other things from CT that I really enjoy but that lipstick is not one of them, I just thank god I received it in one of the minis as a freebie with something as I’d have been annoyed at paying for a full sized one and it not being anything like how it was described.

Cornetttttto · 31/01/2021 19:10

You want velvet muse by Lisa Eldridge or velvet fawn.

@MrsDrudge

The post above sparked a memory and low and behold having looked in my CT stash I actually have a sample of Very Victoria they must have sent as a freebie at some point.

I've never used it as can tell it's not my colour.

I'm happy to send it to you if you want it (just PM your address and I'll pop it in the post).

@addicted2spaniels

I hated it.

Along with the rest of her crappy make up.

Rimmel quality in high end packaging. Worst £200 I ever spent.

Can you tell I hated it Grin

Got to say this was my experience of CT too, got a very expensive palette and was utterly shocked by the very poor quality of the eyeshadows.
QueenPawPaws · 01/02/2021 00:38

Love the flawless filter

For lipsticks I like these
https://www.emolyne.com
Lipstick queen
Bobbi brown

PawPawNoodle · 01/02/2021 00:45

I'm also reasonably pale and PT looks lovely on me. I have all the PT-related lip products now and wear them pretty much daily.

I'm also a fan of the flawless filter which I didn't expect to be, because my skin is an absolute arsehole.

DK123 · 01/02/2021 01:53

I was also very disappointed with the quality of the products. I wasted nearly £200 on a set and it was rimmel sort of stuff in fancy packaging. I think there are a lot of much nicer lipsticks available and I'd never buy another Charlotte tilbury product, I'd just buy rimmel mascaras and the rest from other brands.

MrsDrudge · 01/02/2021 08:41

@DeRigueurMortis that is so kind of you to offer; I wouldn’t want to give you the trouble of wrapping, posting/cost at the moment when you must have lots of other things going on. However I am really appreciative of your thoughtfulness Flowers

Havent tried CT products but can recommend NARS lipsticks..I have a small collection and love every single one of those..

Melange99 · 05/02/2021 19:17

I have been down on most of Tilbury products on here but @Housewife2010 recommended Glowing Jen lipstick. I splurged and it's blooming great.

Has anybody tried the new lip balmy type lipsticks called Happikiss?
