Longer waterproof coat

rk47 · 28/01/2021 15:58

I’m looking for a longer line waterproof coat...maybe mid thigh length or longer with a waist. And that is actually waterproof - ideally at least 10000mm.

Trying to get prepared for spring. Hopefully I’m not asking too much!

Happy Rainy Days trench. The long version has a hidden "skirt" so you can be fully waterproof regardless of what you're wearing and with no need for horrific waterproof trousers!

BobbinThreadbare123 · 28/01/2021 16:07

Seasalt Janelle. Mine is quite old now and still going strong. The waist has tabs to nip it in. Also got a Protected Species mac with a drawstring waist. Much more stylish than the Seasalt one.

SingingSands · 28/01/2021 17:08

Protected Species coats are amazingly waterproof. I bought one in the summer on sale and I waited about 6 weeks for it to rain, I was not disappointed!

hedgehogger1 · 28/01/2021 17:11

I got a craghoppers one. Very waterproof

TitInATrance · 28/01/2021 17:28

I have the red happy rainy days long trench - got it a few years ago and it’s doing well. It keeps out the rain as well as my fancy goretex walking gear and the extra flap is brilliant on windy days. I’m often asked where it’s from.

Murinae · 28/01/2021 17:30

I got a Seasalt Janelle too. Got it in the sale for £85. Very long and very waterproof. Not very stylish but great for keeping you dry.

30% off Protected Species - WINTER30

Some god ones on here: walkthestorm.co.uk/product-category/womens/

Ffs. Good!

Hoviscats · 28/01/2021 20:45

Would definitely recommend Protected Species! Beautiful coats to wear and totally waterproof.

Ramblingwords · 28/01/2021 21:06

If you are over 5'6" and go for the Tall range at Seasalt, you'll find good raincoats that reach a decent length and have the waist in the right place.

The protected species ones seem popular - which style does everyone have?

Not heard of happy rainy days, will check them out

I've got a PS Winter Parka. It withstands the rain where I live (we have a lot)!

goldpendant · 29/01/2021 08:48

I have a protected species having followed tips on here. They are completely waterproof but not warm at all, I guess like any waterproof layer but you'll want to size up if you need to wear thick layers under.

I kind of wish I'd gone for an oversized Rains parka instead, I think that they look a bit cooler (perhaps I chose the wrong style of protected species - I got the commuter I think, it's kind of cocoon shaped, in the khaki green). Maybe should have gone for black.

Thanks for this - have just used it - £200 too much for me for a coat but £140 justifiable, they look great.
Angelfishfan · 29/01/2021 08:55

i have an ilse Jacobsen army 128. I love it and it withstands a lot of rain - I do long school runs and I am in a wet part of Schottland. but it's up to 5000mm only. but I doubt the other coats above are more

There aren't really many 10.000mm around if you don't wanna spend an absolute fortune. my Ilse Jacobsen was £200.

rk47 · 29/01/2021 10:07

@Angelfishfan agree, they’re not easy to find. Much more of the men’s coats are a higher waterproof rating.

I live in a very wet part of the northwest and have a 5000mm rating Regatta coat that has just never been waterproof enough so am very wary of spending money on another 5000mm coat that turns out not to be waterproof enough

I got a didriksons in the sale from blacks and it’s great- really warm and waterproof. It’s mid thigh length though so may not be long enough. It was £130 instead of £240.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 29/01/2021 10:18

I've found a few Ilse Jacobsens in TK Maxx before.

albird · 29/01/2021 10:21

I got a Didriksons Leona before Christmas - their warmest one and its been great - its probably a bit long for me at 5'1" but its totally waterproof really well made and warm. It can be waisted or worn straight. I got it reduced to £177 from £360 on Sportamore .

ScepticalBandicoot · 29/01/2021 13:28

Are you looking for a padded coat or just a waterproof shell? I have a lovely one from Aigle that is mid thigh length, one from Barbour that is similar in length, and a Didriksons that is almost full length. All of those are unpadded. For colder days I have a Seasalt Janelle which is padded. All of them are extremely waterproof.

rk47 · 29/01/2021 18:09

I’m looking for a waterproof shell.
@ScepticalBandicoot is the Barbour one you have wax or like a normal waterproof? I’m tempted by a Didriksons or but wondering if it might be too long (I’m only 5’5”). Thank you I’ll have a look at Aigle too

Placemarking

ScepticalBandicoot · 29/01/2021 20:06

My Barbour is a waxed one but one of the mid thigh length ones, not waist length. I deliberately chose a really long Didriksons so I could wear midi skirts under it without getting soaked but I think they do loads and loads of different ones.

The Aigle one I have looks a bit like this but was less than half the price! Shock waterproof trench coat

rk47 · 29/01/2021 20:31

Thank you Smile
That Aigle one looks great! Glad it’s out of stock in my size otherwise I might be tempted and it’s definitely more than I should be spending
