Slip Silk face masks

Has anyone tried these?

I'm tempted to try one but they are quite expensive so I'd like to know if they are much more comfortable than a disposable or cotton face mask.

The main thing is that restricted, warm feeling you can get while wearing a mask. Are these any better for that?

I use them, never used a cotton one so can't compare but I love them, I don't feel restricted at all with them on. They're very light and soft on the skin.

AliceinBunniland · 24/01/2021 12:13

The reviews were all quite good apart from one which said they are a lot thicker and more restrictive than they seem.

I bought one last week. I love it, nicest I’ve tried so far and I’ve been through quite a few in my quest to find one that’s bearable as I have to wear it at work for part of the day. I got mine from Look Fantastic with a discount so it was £31.

thebestnamehere · 24/01/2021 21:58

These are the same thing - maybe cheaper

Thanks thebestname

They are $24 USD and the slip ones are about £39 but I can't work out what the delivery charge would be

You can get pure silk masks from Accessorize - I haven’t tried them but a lot cheaper than the slip ones.

I’ve been using silk masks bought from Etsy and they are much nicer than cotton or disposable.

AliceinBunniland · 25/01/2021 13:40

Wow the Accessorize ones are much cheaper. I'm tempted to try one of their.

Thanks everyone

I have ordered two of the Accessorize ones (£10 each!) so I will report back if anyone is interested in them.

I have been using disposable ones as I wasn't keen on the cotton ones I got from Amazon and I think the disposable ones feel better but I feel like I am getting through them quite quickly and I would rather be able to reuse...

How are you meant to wash them at a bug killing temperature?

AliceinBunniland · 25/01/2021 18:29

It's a good point. You can still use hot water when hand washing but do you think they need to be at a reduced temp?

I’ve purchased one from Etsy. By far the best one I’ve tried. Have you got the dettol detergent (that you add to baby washes etc) and could put it in the sink with warm water to kill germs gently? I must point out I’ve not yet tried this so I take no responsibility for anything but this is how I’m going to clean it 🤣

BangingOn · 25/01/2021 21:57

WHO says to wash clothes as normal, no mention of needing higher than usual temperatures. I hand wash in the hottest water I can with Napisan and Dettol Detergent.

Binglebong · 25/01/2021 23:08

I'll be honest, I'm not sure how you wash silk at the best of times, never mind after every use!

AliceinBunniland · 26/01/2021 09:05

Soap kills covid doesn't it? So some sort of detergent should be enough without too much heat? Maybe... 🤷‍♀️ I honestly didn't think about it!

The two masks I ordered from Accessorize have arrived today and they seem really nice.

I wanted to thank @Chippychipcrisps for letting me know about them and everyone else for the suggestions and also to let anyone else know if interested.

They seem like they'd be gentler on the skin and feel less restrictive than disposable ones.

AliceinBunniland · 29/01/2021 15:19

They've got that new / factory smell so I'm going to give them a wash now before I use them

I have two I bought from the Big Silk because all the others I tried were giving me terrible acne around my mouth. They wash really well.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 29/01/2021 15:31

There's about £12 in additional duties and taxes if you are UK based for the one in the 2158 yesterday post yesterday.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 29/01/2021 15:32

Ok, so it seems I'm late to the party... :)

AliceinBunniland · 29/01/2021 15:53

What do you mean Spongey?

I've just washed these so hoping I haven't ruined the silk or the pleats as they looked quite nice!

OP posts:
Supersimkin2 · 29/01/2021 20:31

Gingerlily ones are only £25 or so in the sale and bliss.

Saurus72 · 29/01/2021 22:42

I love silk but bought cotton face masks from Baukjen because I can wash them in the machine at 60 degrees to kill germs. I just wouldn’t feel confident that hand washing would get them thoroughly clean.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 30/01/2021 08:47

I mean, I came on to be helpful, having not read properly that you'd already made the purchase.

AliceinBunniland · 30/01/2021 12:29

Sorry spongey I got that. I meant your earlier post.
