Corsets

Anybody wear corsets?

I’ve always been thick of waist; in my youth I was skinny - straight up and down, no boobs, no hips, no waist. Now I am in my mid forties and having had children, I am no longer thin but not huge (size 10/12) and my shape is best described as sausage. My middle is my widest point.

An advert popped up on my FB for corsets. They were rather beautiful. I’m wondering about giving one a try, not for every day but for when I want to put on a nice dress/skirt, to reduce the sausage effect.

Any thoughts/experience?

I wore Vollers corsets in my thirties, mostly for my DH (an artist) to photograph as reference for his paintings. I'm 46 now, with end-stage breast cancer, and I'm an amorphous blob from a combination of treatment and laziness. I say laziness, but I can't really exercise because it has spread to my bones. I hope you'll forgive me for posting a photo of my glory days, prompted by this thread (Grin). I bloody loved those corsets.

@BitOfFun Absolutely beautiful. I remember the lovely drawings your DH did

VenusClapTrap · 31/01/2021 12:14

Wow BitOfFun how absolutely stunning, and how wonderful that your Dh drew you. I hope you surround yourself with those photos and drawings now, to remind yourself of your beauty. Flowers

That’s what my mum did when she was ravaged by cancer - on her hospital bedside she had no photos of family, just photos of herself at her best. She said “I know what you look like. But I need to be reminded of the real me, not the cancer me I see in the mirror.”

Starlight I tried on the champagne overbust one again last night and decided it was amazing. But then I looked at my rear view 😱 - horror show back fat muffin top. Decided to give up on corsets and focus on getting fit.

But then I stumbled across a blog about corsets that said an ugly back fat muffin top means the corset is the incorrect fit, or laced wrongly, so that has given me hope again!

Dh discovered me trying it on and got all alarmed, and started waffling about broken ribs and crushed lungs!

Need to ponder.

Waist trainers seem to be a thing on You Tube. They look like a mini corset or boned basque, no laces . Apparently how the Kardashiand get that teeny waist. Been pondering re getting one, dirt cheap on Amazon.

StarlightLady · 01/02/2021 17:00

Waist trainers are certainly more common in shops in France than they are in the UK.

That’s interesting, fridgepants. Why don’t they like Corset Story? They do seem to be the most heavily promoted and accessible. Which brands are recommended?

I don’t like squeezy type shape wear like Spanx, so those sort of waist trainers wouldn’t work for me. I’ve seen corsets described as waist trainers too though.

I’ve never seen a rubber waist trainer thank goodness. All the ones l have seen have been fabric and like a narrower version of an underbust corset. Almost a sawn off corset. Available in all Parisian department stores. Or they were in normal times.

Well mine arrived today, and I am really going to need help to get it to fit on my hips and boobies

QueenPawPaws · 02/02/2021 14:44

I can lace mine on my own but if I have help I generally hang onto a door as my friend is a bit... knee in back and yank BlushGrin

Binglebong · 02/02/2021 15:01

Start off by making it as big as you can, laces fully stretched.

Oldraver · 02/02/2021 22:46

I got it on with the laces quite loose and it fit snug on my waist, but it needs pulling in a hell of a lot of the boobs and hips.

When looking at the sizing my waist needed two sizes bigger than my hips and boobs so bought size according to waist as thats what the instructions said

I do have 'shape' but obviously my waist ratio is much more

IReallyNeedMoreGin · 10/02/2021 10:21

Mine arrived yesterday! I used the 3 for 2 to buy the suspender attachments and stockings...wasn't sure I wanted 3 corsets from the start!

I love it! Went for an underbust to start. I'm 5'2" so bought a petit one. Took ages to get on but I got there in the end! Can tighten it to a point on my own but when the time comes I want to go tighter, I suspect I'll need help.

The real fun started when trying to get it off. I got stuck in it and wrestled with the last fastener for ages. Husband was in fits of giggles and said it was like watching a really bad burlesque show. HmmGrin

This is the one I went for:

I’m glad it’s worked out for you! I had a similar experience with one stuck clasp at the front. There’s definitely a knack and an order to unhook them in!

I sent all mine back in the end. I just wasn’t convinced. It was the back fat that killed it for me. After lock down I’m going to really try to get fit and tone up a bit, and then I might try again.

@IReallyNeedMoreGin - On most and with a bit of wear, once lacing is right, front fastening/unfastening becomes second nature.

IReallyNeedMoreGin · 10/02/2021 13:27

Yes it's definitely going to take time and practice! 😆 Also with the laces being so new they're a bit slippy. Once they've been 'worn in' I'm sure I'll be able to tighten them a bit better.

@VenusClapTrap shame it didn't work out for you after it was your thread that inspired me to finally try one myself! If you do try again, let us know how you get on. X
