Corsets

Anybody wear corsets?

I’ve always been thick of waist; in my youth I was skinny - straight up and down, no boobs, no hips, no waist. Now I am in my mid forties and having had children, I am no longer thin but not huge (size 10/12) and my shape is best described as sausage. My middle is my widest point.

An advert popped up on my FB for corsets. They were rather beautiful. I’m wondering about giving one a try, not for every day but for when I want to put on a nice dress/skirt, to reduce the sausage effect.

Any thoughts/experience?

Camis* damn autocorrect!

Www.Lamasz.com are inspiring. Great photography! Ideas too. Over your clothes. Go for it.

VenusClapTrap · 24/01/2021 20:07

Laughing at wearing chamois leather underneath Binglebong! Grin

Those Lamasz corsets are stunning, Percy. My days of wearing underwear as outerwear are well behind me though, sadly.

I’ve ordered a Gossard basque, reduced from fifty odd quid to thirty, so I’ll see what that’s like and maybe move on to corsets in the future.

Oh I dunno, presumably it was absorb sweat as well as condensation! Grin

I've seen a couple on corset story I fancy! Will sort out measurement in the week when I'm less busy....just gonna go for it! Been wanting one for ages and this thread has made me decide to just go for it! Grin

I’ve been down so many underwear rabbit holes today. So many questions!
Bralettes - are they bras or not? If not, what’s the point of them?
Waist trainers - these look like mini corsets. Why ‘trainer’? Does your waist learn something from them?
Bodies - neither corset nor basque. What are they for? How do you go to the loo?!

Hoping some of you lingerie experts can enlighten me!

Gossard Basques are very average. They're not bad as such but dont judge all basques by the Gossard, they're bras are better

QueenPawPaws · 24/01/2021 23:25

I have a made to measure one from Rosie red corsetry which I love. It's an underbust one
Cropped pic!

Oldraver · 24/01/2021 23:53

I got as far as ordering one from Corset story but was out of stock

Re sizing, it says to order by waist size but my waist comes up one or two sizes more than my bust/hips. Does this mean it will gape there ?

QueenPawPaws that looks amazing!

I have buyers remorse and am wishing I’d gone for a corset instead. 😬

You'll soon find they multiply...

LetMeStraightenMyCrownFirst · 25/01/2021 14:38

I strongly recommend that when show reopen you go to Rigby and Peller. They will be able to advice you and also show you in the flesh what you can get and what results you can achieve. However, as some PPs said, sitting down, drinking, and eating in these, isn't easy or terribly comfortable. And you can forget getting a nice boob shape. I'm a 32/34GG and I have very specific bras I like to wear because of the shape they give my boobs. Corsets/basques are quite limited in terms of the top section so you can get the waist but not the boobs!

VenusClapTrap · 25/01/2021 14:47

LetMeStraighten I love Rigby and Peller! I normally take a trip up to London once a year just to go there for a bra buying session. Last year I had to do it online with not such great results, and this year is heading the same way. I’m a 30D which is a bit limiting. If a basque/corset can just give me a bit of a ‘hoik’ I’ll be happy.

I’m getting so many adverts for lingerie now. Some quite beautiful, some rather eye popping!

@QueenPawPaws - lovely! I considered photographing my basques and corsets but they looked inanimate when l laid them out on the bed and too shy to do anything more. Even with a cropped shot in the mirror.

@Oldraver - order from somewhere where they will converse with you either by email or on line chat and you can provide full size details including bust, waist, hips and length. My underbust corset fits best out the two.

OP, you are doing things in the right running order. I suspect you will end up with both. Wiith the right dress, l’ve worn a basque to work in the winter, but l wouldn’t go to work in a corset.

Maybe we should form a MN Corset Owners’ Club. More interesting than vintage cars! Grin

Phwooooar · 25/01/2021 16:11

I’d definitely be part of a corset owners club! I have about 4 basques and 2 corsets. The corsets I loved when I was inserted into them in the shop but haven’t worn since as I get too hot and bothered trying to do them up properly. They are loved and unused. The basques I have worn occasionally but find I get vbl as a opposed to vpl so have to be careful what I wear over them

Binglebong · 25/01/2021 20:07

If people are wanting a chance to wear a corset try steampunk. Search for The Asylum Lincoln and do will see a huge range of outfits - most of them not really not sexy, just fun. There are no real rules on outfit. The other thing about steampunk is where normally it's rude to comment on a strangers outfit- here it is positively encouraged as longs as it's complimentary! Brilliant for the ego.

StarlightLady · 26/01/2021 05:05

@Phwooooar - I think you should only be given associate membership for now! You've invested in them, so go for it! Putting them on is a matter of practice. With the VBL, l wonder if the fit is quite right. But in the non corseted world, bras show a lot anyway, unless it’s excessive, all it means is that you have a bra on.

Every Friday lunchtime, l have started going for a walk in a posh frock with either a corset or a basque underneath, best handbag and trainers(!) with a big duvet coat over the top. A little crazy l know, all dressed up and nowhere to go, but when l get back l feel better for it. 💄

DebatableHmm · 26/01/2021 06:25

I have a lot of corsets! You've reminded me to put one on when I wake up Smile I really like the nice posture it gives you when sitting at the computer.

Imho a good fitting one, tightly laced, feels like a hug all day long. Just don't do what I did and decide a hug would feel good in bed too... DH was working nights so I thought why the hell not?! Well... I woke up the next morning with the stiffest back ever. Not worth it Blush

BeanieB2020 · 26/01/2021 06:44

I got some really nice ones from What Katie Did

StarlightLady · 26/01/2021 07:38

For basques Poi Moir currently have a sale on with some good reductions. Mine is the Amour, which is a good fit and has detachable straps (beats a strapless bra any day) but l had trouble getting the sizing right. I would go up one, possibly two band sizes and one cup size.

I would also avoid anything with the stringy bits around the top of the cups.

www.pourmoi.co.uk/lingerie/basques-and-bodies/

They also offer a centre front fastening lace back corset, l’m tempted as a treat to myself, but slightly wary about it because it comes in dress sizes.

Phwooooar · 26/01/2021 08:00

@Starlight well I'll settle for associate
Membership for the timebeing Smileand wow! Am sooo impressed you go for a walk with one on AND a nice frock. You are the commander in chief of the corset club! I have to walk a Great Dane every day so posh frocks are out of the question 🤣. You're right about VBL/VCL, I suppose it is like a bra other than if it'a got frilly bits around the bottom edge which is where my problem lies...

Binglebong · 26/01/2021 08:11

Wow fantastic idea for a weekly walk Starlight!
