Is lockdown making anyone reevaluate their entire wardrobe?

Just that really.

I have heaps of beautiful clothes, but haven’t worn them for ages. (Not only due to COVID, but also having 2 very young children).

Makes me think it’s crazy to have heaps of clothes that I might wear at some point...

I have lots of nice clothes but seem to live in leggings or trackies and a fleece. I've bought nice clothes and shoes during lockdown. Why?

Biancadelrioisback · 21/01/2021 20:16

Yup! I have two huge boxes of clothes I'm getting rid of. Since lockdown I've lived in jumpers, joggers and leggings so have padded out my wardrobe with them!
The old me would never be caught in joggers with unwashed hair

JMAngel1 · 21/01/2021 20:16

Yep me too. Realising that I'm wearing the same items over and over and 90℅ of my wardrobe is redundant at the moment. I'm either in scrubs, workout gear or leather leggings (fleece lining is too hard to resist) with a jumper.

I did rock out an asymmetrical leather skirt this week just to get to work but then had to change into scrubs straightaway so what's the point?

PresentingPercy · 21/01/2021 20:16

Wardrobes in my case. First lockdown I had a go at clearing out. This time I’ve not got round to it but I need to. I’ve a loft full of a former life too! DH is refusing to add to my coat storage so it’s going to be the end of the road for anything less than wonderful! But it’s going to take a loooong time!

DeeCeeCherry · 21/01/2021 20:19

Yes. I have lots of nice clothes. I'm in my 50s and had a thought that I will die before I get a chance to wear them all. I've regifted some, and have a little charity pile. & When lockdown etc is over, I am going to dress nicely every day. Just because.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/01/2021 20:20

I've done a lot of culling but have got some gaps that need replacing and I can't find exactly what I want - it's such a bloody faff to order online and send back etc too.

I need: a couple of decent pairs of leggings/joggers
a couple of good, slouchy longline jumpers
some jumper dresses
some new black skinnies

LegoAndLolDolls · 21/01/2021 20:32

I think about it constantly but have only culled the kids clothes. I get rid of all of dd party stuff as it wont fit from last March until whenever parties might restart.

It was quite cathartic. I'm not ready to part with mine quite yet, but at the same time I cant see myself buying much this year. I only need Pjs and warm potatoes sack now

PresentingPercy · 21/01/2021 20:40

I know I have a shameful amount of storage used in 5 bedrooms and the loft. It’s hard getting started and some on my stuff was expensive.

curlytops21 · 21/01/2021 20:41

I did this last year and haven't looked back. I realised my wardrobes all suited my pre covid life. I sold or gave away most of my very smart work stuff, almost all of my heels, dresses worn once to weddings, with matching heels and umpteen pairs of jeans I'd never wear again. I emptied full wardrobes.

I then bought 3 pairs of my favourite jeans, lots of lovely merino wool jumpers and t shirts from uniqlo, several of my favourite comfy bras and loads of new knickers and i honestly think it's the best thing I've done in years. My wardrobe feels really.... honest now. I know that sounds strange, but I'm not pretending I'll ever wear something and I'm not taking up space and having negative thoughts about things I'll never fit into again.

I love opening my wardrobes and easily pulling together my outfit in the morning, simple as it may be. Jeans, leggings, jumpers, cardigans etc. Oh and fabulous cosy socks 👍🏻

Frequentflier · 21/01/2021 20:41

Switched entirely to athleisure, culled tons of clothes and not going to wear anything with a waistband until lockdown lifts.

kowari · 21/01/2021 20:45

No, I've worked throughout every lockdown except when I was off for a couple of weeks with covid. Wearing the same as usual.

AuntieDolly · 21/01/2021 20:49

I've just bought some grey leopard print joggers. I'm never getting dressed again!

AnnaMagnani · 21/01/2021 20:54

I have nice clothes I used to wear to work.

I have just about avoided scrubs by the skin of my teeth but if I move jobs, scrubs it will be.

Even without the scrubs, I'm only wearing clothes that are easy to change in and out of and wash.

Good-bye clothes, I don't think I'll ever wear you again.

TooMinty · 21/01/2021 20:57

@AuntieDolly

I've just bought some grey leopard print joggers. I'm never getting dressed again!

Tell me more about these please!

Toffeefee23 · 21/01/2021 21:02

I just got grey leopard print joggers from Tesco

TooMinty · 21/01/2021 21:42

Thanks Toffee!

I'd also like some cosy socks but I have tiny feet so it's a struggle to find them...

dun1urkin · 21/01/2021 21:46

Yep. I’ve got a wardrobe full of work clothes, work shoes etc. I’m hanging on to see what happens post pandemic, but am not planning on ever going back in more than one day a week at the most.
Once I’m certain, I’m having a massive cull.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 21/01/2021 21:46

Oh god I come to s&b to be cheered up, away from all the corona stuff! 😂

Nooooo don't get rid of all your lovely things, life will get back to normal and hopefully very soon. I've actually been buying beautiful clothes in the sales to cheer myself up and to wear mainly when we can do nice things again. I've bought loads and I can't wait to wear it. In fact I am wearing some of it already and tomorrow I plan to wear one of my new allsaints slip dresses with a new cardigan for all my work zoom calls 😁

Oly4 · 21/01/2021 21:47

Me! I’m not wearing 95% of my clothes. Have cut my spending by 80% too.
Why did I spend so much before on stuff I might wear once?
I’ve not chucked anything out yet as I don’t want to live in loungewear forever but it has made me realise I just don’t need to go back to buying stuff every month

AuntieDolly · 21/01/2021 21:57

@TooMinty I got them from TKMaxx

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 21/01/2021 22:00

@DeeCeeCherry I'm going to dress nicely every day as well, but I'm carrying on doing it now! It makes me feel so much better to wear nice things, do my nails, hair and makeup. Even for work zoom, I feel better for it.

The pandemic had taken enough from me, it's not taking away my lovely clothes and enjoying making an effort 😂

To be clear, I'm not getting rid of all my lovely things and dressing like a slob. I'm clearing out clothes i won't need eg office wear on a 15-day rotation for 5 days a week in the office. My style is also typically more casual now, but i still have great clothes for when we can finally get back to nights and days out and beautiful summer dresses etc.
Cheesypea · 21/01/2021 22:05

I've bought a few t- shirts that's it. I dont think I'll ever wear heels again. I went to the dump this week. It was horrific how much there was in the textile recycling. I'm only going to buy things I need from now.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 21/01/2021 22:15

@curlytops21 phew! 😂 I felt quite sad reading that otherwise!

I guess I've never really had a corporate/workwear type wardrobe, as both my previous job and my new one aren't really corporate places- dress code more smart casual, black jeans ok. So I just have the clothes that I wear for everything really, only the stuff that I consider too revealing isn't worn for work.

Mind you, the dress I planned on wearing tomorrow for zoom is a grey all saints slip dress, I might actually look like I'm in my nightie! 😂

TooMinty · 21/01/2021 22:20
