Have you bought a white trilby, but ended up looking like a fishmonger? Have you purchased an outfit in forest green and been recommended a life in Sherwood Forest?

I'm definitely going to use this thread. I've put on weight and only have about 4 outfits that fit and I'm so bored rotating them. Not that I've got anywhere to go or anyone to impress, mind.

BendyLikeBeckham · 01/02/2021 09:40

I also have a penchant for hats.

I never look good in a hat.

Maireas · 01/02/2021 10:11

Morning, @BendyLikeBeckham
Feel free to post pics! I am of the opinion that some people just can't wear hats and some people look fab in them. I look terrible even in a bobble hat Grin

I suit hats, but that has led me to make some over-confident purchases in the past.

BendyLikeBeckham · 01/02/2021 14:33

You really don't want to see me in a hat.

Svelte wintry goddess? Nah, Benny from Crossroads.

I bought yellow wellies to cheer up wet walks. Then was gifted a cream fake arran jumper. I really thought I was Keira Knightley on a Swedish holiday. Alas no. More captain Birdseye with a bad shave after far too many fish fingers.

I really do think that being tall and slim is the holy grail of fashion. Anything less is so much harder in my case impossible to dress and look good. Especially if you don't have style and money and are short, fat and middle aged like me.

Maireas · 01/02/2021 18:53

Bendy clothes that fit normal women.
Tough call!

ikr! I do not even know which shops I should frequent!

Maireas · 01/02/2021 22:10

Depends - your budget, lifestyle and taste play a part. Think of what you feel comfortable in, what kind of look?

I absolutely love this dress, but I am a short, size 14-16, very large busted 45 year old...do I risk looking like a large sofa?

Maireas · 01/02/2021 22:39

Tricky. It's one of those - will I look like a young, dewy Diana from 1983 in a Laura Ashley print, or my nan's overstuffed sofa from about the same era?

viewsoftheshard · 01/02/2021 22:44

I’m pretty sure I know which one I’ll look like. I went on a mad ‘large collar’ buying craze last year. Again a tricky look for me to carry off...and suspect they will be put in eBay soon.

Maireas · 01/02/2021 22:47

Those big collars are everywhere. Combined with ruffles, flowers and puff sleeves... Mmm.... I'd look like Grayson Perry's alter ego.

@viewsoftheshard

Jimmy Krankie dressed up as Laura Ingles. Don't do it.

Sorry.

BendyLikeBeckham · 02/02/2021 09:18

I browsed today on Coast. Never shopped there before.

Is this gorgeous or would it be fat leopard ate all the gazelles and hid in a tent?

(I'm 40s, short, fat and huge of nork)

Grin maybe Bet Lynch before lighting up her breakfast?
Fashion person Does My Bum Look 40 claims that leopardskin is a neutral......

Zebracat · 02/02/2021 10:13

Love the leopard, Bendy. I was leopard averse for years, but have a midi dress now. I think the pattern works like camo to confuse the eye, so no one can tell if you are slinky leopard or Garfield. Any local gazelles might be in for a hard time tho.

Maireas · 02/02/2021 10:22

Goof points, @Zebracat - it is quite a distraction. I like leopard print footwear I have to say, it's a bit more interesting than the usual. Go for the dress!

Maireas · 02/02/2021 10:23

GOOD points, not goof!!

BendyLikeBeckham · 02/02/2021 11:50

Thanks! Confusing the eye is a Very. Good. Thing.

Bet Lynch, ha!

"Hang on, hang on - I 'aven't lit me breakfast yet"!
Although I recently saw Sophie Wessex in such a dress and she looked lovely and chic.

OP posts:
BendyLikeBeckham · 02/02/2021 17:13

lol! Mine's a pint o mild.

Sophie always looks so understatedly elegant. I could never look like her, sadly.
