I've been eyeing up this jacket for a while. It's now on sale and I think I'd like to get it. My DSis doesn't think it's that nice - which is putting me off (I know it shouldn't and if I like it I should go for it) but I don't want to look silly. I'd love honest opinions please?

It isn't my personal taste but you wouldn't look silly in it. If you like it, buy it. If you don't like it when it arrives send it back. You've nothing to lose really.

Bagelsandbrie · 19/01/2021 09:15

Being brutally honest I think it’s hideous. But that’s just me and we all like different things! It looks like a shiny joules jacket.

Onedayatatime43 · 19/01/2021 09:16

It’s a nice jacket but a bit shiny for my taste. There are a few similar on sale from Barbour and Barbour International. My friend has a similar one with a hood from them and it’s really lovely, and warm too.

Hoppinggreen · 19/01/2021 09:16

Too shiny
Get a Barbour instead

icelollycraving · 19/01/2021 09:17

I really like it. I think you’d need to be either very slender or very slim in the waist.

ShagMeRiggins · 19/01/2021 09:18

Buy it, try it.

Don’t listen to your sister.

What’s your usual style like?

PurpleDaisies · 19/01/2021 09:19

I agree it’s a bit shiny. If you love it, you should go for it. It’s not what I would buy for myself but I wouldn’t look at someone else and think it was bad.

Cam2020 · 19/01/2021 09:20

I think it's fine! It wouldn't suit me, which is, why I'm not more enthusiastic about it, but I'm sure it would look really nice on someone else! As PP said, get it adn if you don't like it on, send it back! You'll kick yourself if you don't try!

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 19/01/2021 09:20

Personally I don't like it and I think it looks cheap.

But you're the one wearing it. But what YOU like 🤷🏻‍♀️

ShagMeRiggins · 19/01/2021 09:22

By the way, my honest opinion is that it’s fab...on the right person. The shine doesn’t bother me—it separates this jacket from every other quilted/puffs jacket out there—but I understand many don’t feel comfortable wearing shine or sheen or sparkle.

So the question is are you comfortable with the sheen of the jacket?

happylittlechick · 19/01/2021 09:23

If you can afford £150 on a coat you can find something nicer.

RugsEverywhere · 19/01/2021 09:24

Buy it and return it if it's horrible.

(If you want my opinion it looks like it comes from Asda)

Monkeytapper · 19/01/2021 09:26

I think you can get something nicer for the money.
It does look like a Cheap Barber jacket even though it’s more expensive. Doesn’t look flattering either

QforCucumber · 19/01/2021 09:27

Personally don't like the sheen or the chunky gold zips. Looks like a knock off barbour so would buy one for those in a similar style.

But if you like it go for it!

Monkeytapper · 19/01/2021 09:28

Hang on, the more I look at it I like it, it’s growing in me. Get it and try it on and see how if fits.

bonnieimi · 19/01/2021 09:28

I quite like the sheen - I do understand that’s not to everyone’s taste.

Thanks for being honest. As suggested I will get and see how it looks.

I own a lot of Barbour jackets and thought I’d get something a bit different.

I’m a size 12 (slim but quite big boobs) if that makes any difference?

bonnieimi · 19/01/2021 09:30

Oh god, I am being put off by you saying it looks cheap! Hoping it'll look better in person.

ZaraW · 19/01/2021 09:37

It looks like a cheaper version of a Belstaff. I don't like the shine either.

DinosaurDiana · 19/01/2021 09:39

It’s ok if you’re going for the equine look, but other than that - no.

GrimDamnFanjo · 19/01/2021 09:39

I couldn't wear it as I'm the wrong body shape but if you like it, get it!

ParisJeTAime · 19/01/2021 09:39

Sorry, I think it's horrible and yes, very cheap and shiny looking!

HOWEVER, I have a weird thing about shiny fabrics AND my style veers towards frumpy. Seasalt, Fitflop, M&S etc are my favourite shops. I embrace the frump! I make it work Grin. But, you may hate my taste in clothes.

icelollycraving · 19/01/2021 09:44

I love a sheen. I have quite glitzy tastes.

bonnieimi · 19/01/2021 09:44

@DinosaurDiana

It’s ok if you’re going for the equine look, but other than that - no.
I do ride, so a lot of my clothes are this style.

Hopeforhappiertimesahead · 19/01/2021 09:46

Not that keen on the elbow patches or the bling Gold zips, dont mind the fabric, so so to me.

If you already have Barbour items why not try it for a change and see what you think.

I have a couple of Holland Cooper capes/jacket and find then to be well made, but some clothing is way to young for me! I also have more than a few Barbour jackets, quilted/waxed and others and now finding the quality is slipping.

unmarkedbythat · 19/01/2021 09:48

It's just a jacket, what makes you think you'd look silly? If you like it you'll more than likely rock it.
