WWW's six week 10 year younger boot camp, November 07 already, WEEK ONE AGAIN, all welcome

Hello! This is week one of the ninth WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2007 although we have been a bit lost along the way, apologies and welcome everyone.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even thought it's autumn
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage

I am most certainly going to be very seriously doing this over the next six months as I have an horrendous commute and the only way of getting through it is enough sleep/good food/no wine in the week so, do join us, everyone is welcome.

As usual I have been crap and have eaten wonderful things all weekend and last week as it was half term. But it has to stop as I am corpulent and lethargic so I intend to be an example to you all!

In the meantime, this morning I had a sausage in a roll followed by 2 slices of bacon in a roll and then wow, dh's amazing beef pie, which he made yesterday, followed by treacle tart from the local farm shop WITH clotted cream and I drank some wine last night but not that much and fell asleep cudding dd at about 9.30pm. Hmm. Being happy and going to bed early but not much else so I MUST improve!

hello all

Am on day 5 of detox which is bootcamp with added deprivations. Am feeling......rubbish actually - have had a headache since day 2 which is now v mild but still there. And feel v tired and lethargic but apparantly this is the 'healing crisis' I have to go through prior to being full of vim and vigour . Am clearly hugely toxic...

Have to say though that being back on no booze/more water has already done wonders for my skin - am definitely looking less haggard. Don't feel hungry as I am eating loads - because I have to get in three lots of fruit in a day, three lots of veg plus salad.

New discovery is,,,,,dandelion tea which is supposed to be either aliver tonic and helps flush those toxins through your system - it's really nice (and I say that as an avowed non-herbal tea kind of gal).

foxinsocks · 02/11/2007 11:31

www - I don't think I've had a drink since I started this job so mid September! That's a long time for me. I may never touch the stuff again (can see my friends chuckling at the thought of that!).

Finally, both my children are back to school (after weeks of illness) but there's never a quiet day in the fox household (arrghh) as dh's no.2 (there are 2 in his team) looks like she might be off on sick leave for a bit basically doubling his workload at a time when he was supposed to be having lots of leave . I must admit, I enjoy being able to earn money but I am finding it increasingly difficult to deal with all the shit that comes with it, especially as we have no-one other than our friends (who have been brilliant) for practical support. Sigh.

Book swaps are a good idea. We have far too many books - in fact, we are going to have to get a storage unit just so that we can redecorate the house (floors, walls, ceilings - lots of woodchip wall paper to get rid of!) as we have SO many books/bookcases and piles of papers everywhere that the decorators stand no chance!

Hello everyone

Day 1 for me going well. Lots of walking, lots of fruit, 2 small bits of potato bread and looking forward to my weekend drink at 6pm. AM working tomorrow though so better have just the one. In addition, I need to fit into smart clothes tomorrow so better hope I can be a bit less bloated.

Why are both my kids asleep so close to bedtime? COuld this be where my bedtime problesm are coming from?

tortoiseSHELL · 02/11/2007 18:48

Have had a total nightmare - internet off since MONDAY!!! It was quite liberating to start with, but by yesterday was starting to panic about emails not received! Anyway, am back online - so what have I missed? What have I missed on MN? (Am too lazy to trawl through the last week's conversations!).

Food not bad, moderate generally, not great, but not a disaster, am building exercise up. Have suddenly realised that now dd is at school there is no excuse for me not taking ds2 out on my bike,so dh is going to repair it for me. Also trying to do more swimming and walking.

Marina, like you I watched those reports and thought bootcamp had better be a bit more serious!

Www - glad job is good, sorry commute is awful. I hated commuting to Cheltenham - can you get some fantastic books and use the time for reading? When I was pg with ds1 and feeling lousy, dh used to drive me to Cheltenham, and then get the train back to Bristol, because he worked near Parkway, so it was quite easy, but he loved the time reading with a coffee, he read loads of stuff he wouldn't have had time to otherwise.

swedishmum · 02/11/2007 18:55

My problem is I expect to look dramatically slimmer after a few days. I find breakfast hard as I'm avoiding bread (I love toast). Was good and made a smoothie, then had chargrilled asparagus for lunch. I've made bolognaise for the children but don't think I can stomach it. 2 hrs 45 mins then my scout run for today will be done.

puddle · 02/11/2007 19:58

swedishmum I am off the bread too. I have porridge oats soaked in apple juice in the fridge overnight. Add fruit and yoghurt and it's delicious.

swedishmum · 02/11/2007 20:10

Thanks Puddle - have all those things in the house so will soak some tonight.

arfishy · 02/11/2007 20:39

Yes, deffo don't skip breakfast. It perks up your metabolism which slows overnight.

Well I'm hanging on in there. Bootcamp with Evil Victoria (TM) is getting easier and I've been praised for my aggressive kick boxing and excellent bosu technique . I'm finding myself sucked in and have bought my own heart rate monitor (which beeps alarmingly when I'm slacking off at less than 160bpm and also allegedly if I over-do it) and am partaking in the odd protein drink. Which are suprisingly delicious and mean I don't have to eat any more sodding steamed protein chicken.

I'm almost tempted to see if my white jeans fit.

After ballet this morning at the ridiculously early time of 8.45 we're off to the Powerhouse Museum which will be all day walking. They've got the Diana exhibition in too which made me cry buckets last weekend. It was so sad and sort of powerful really to see her toys and school uniform and her wedding dress and all of the books of condolence.

Glad the new job is going well WWW. I would be spending zillions on magazines and spin-off stuff that I've seen in them during that commute. Book swap is an excellent idea!

SoberNow - that's great what exercise are you doing? Don't forget to measure yourself and ignore the scales or you'll freak if you put on muscle.

Welcome back protein Chicken Lady!

WideWebWitch · 02/11/2007 20:43

Swedishmum Chargrilled asparagus is fine, what are you on about?

Ts, well, I'm quite enjoying the commute but I DO need a laptop, it's true, esp as in first class with wi fi and power points so I could mumsnet on the way home if I had a laptop...

Batters, anyone, YES a book swap is a VERY good idea. How would we do it? I wish there was a 'bin' at Euston/various tube stations where you could chuck your unwanted paperbacks and pick up another one. I have read Piers Morgan/Duncan Bannatyne/crappy novel this week. I will finish crappy novel by the end of Monday's commute...Dh thinks I should go to the library tomorrow and I may well do.

Sweidshmum, ikwym about expecting dramatic results, I am most impatient person in the world and expect to look great after 2 days..but I looked in the mirror today and I look a LOT better for a) walking b) no wine c) sleep d) being happy

Ts sorry about no internet, must have been hard! Welcome back. No idea what you've missed, haven't been here much myself.

Dolly, erm, yes, this will be at root of sleep problems! well done, good start.

Sobernow, blimey, you have eaten sod all today! lol at oo er. See above, may buy my own laptop, I need it.

FIS, SEPTEMBER? Blimey. Well done. Re childcare in emergencies can you arrange some reciprocal back up? Or pay someone to be it? It is hard, I do know if we had a sickness disaster it would be hard here. Dh would take time off since he's nearer but eek, it's all a bit hairy.

Puddle, glad you're feeling better. Welcome back.

Prufrock, wow at pub/mineral water combo. Pre school politics, I remember them well, best of luck with persuasion!

Cerys, 4lb will be gone before you know it, pah, it is but a trifle to bootcamp

WideWebWitch · 02/11/2007 20:47

Not bad today

2 pieces toast and marmite
v v small portion thai red curry and rice at lunch
lots of walking, even more than usual as longer commute to away day
tandoori chicken, naan, rice, chana masala
WINE now being imbibed

I've been on an away day today or "forced pretend cameraderie" as one of my colleagues described it, but it was a laugh and I managed to use sunscreen since most of it was outside and I drank lots of water AND I laughed a LOT. It was great fun. And I got paid for it (obv, am contractor, wouldn't have gone if they hadn't paid me but enjoyed it all the same)

So hey, I deserve my wine tonight

Happy weekend everyone.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 02/11/2007 21:04

WWW - glad you're enjoying your Friday night after your first week in new job.

I have been incredibly busy today with Autumn Fair stuff. I have made cakes, a fairyland Playdoh treasure hunt, a real sand island complete with pirates and skeleton treasure hunt, sold raffle tickets outside a school that my DCs don't even go to and lots more besides. But I can feel myself ranting so I'll stop!

I badly need to wash my hair tonight so that's now top of my agenda.

I have no idea what I've eated all day. I did have a baked potato, watercress, tomatoes and some grated cheese for dinner. But I'm hungry again so will go and look for something healthy and non-sick making.

Wishing you all a good weekend.

unknownrebelbang · 02/11/2007 21:31

Sunscreen - yy
No booze
1 hr on the exercise bike.
Lots of water/weak tea.
Hand cream - yy.
Go to bed early - no - and I'm shattered now as had a really long day, so going up vv soon.
Eat healthily - ish, but still struggling.
Be happy - sadly not. DH (poor bloke's had a crud week) is a bit shocked as he knows the policewoman who has been runover and is critically ill.

Sorry, another whingefest, but omg, it's horrid and frightening when it's someone he knows.

BUT BUT BUT

I've literally this second received a text (as I was typing this) from a friend who's pg with IVF and she's having twins!

OMG, talk about one extreme to the other!

bamamama · 03/11/2007 01:02

Hello all, not been about much this week although bootcamping has been going ok. Unknown - how horrible! Your dh is really not having a good time of it!

We've been having the big 'do we have a second child' debate this week and frankly I now have a headache thinking about it. I know we wouldn't regret it if we do but we may regret it if we don't so I have no idea. Batters - you have one dd? Sorry for being nosey but if that was a choice, are you still sure it's right? Sorry, not very well phrased I find I'm really inarticulate about the subject. Any other bootcampers with just the one? Thoughts would be appreciated on the subject. Sorry - don't mean to hijack the thread but this is a microcommunity afterall

WWW - name checked by the BBC - get you!

arfishy · 03/11/2007 07:29

WWW - Were you namechecked by the BBC? [agog]

Bama - I only have one child. I will give you the gory details if you ply me with wine www approved grape juice

WideWebWitch · 03/11/2007 10:13

What are you on about? Name checked by the BBC? Wot?

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 03/11/2007 10:20

Bama, I have 2 but for AGES (six years) only had one and really wasn't sure about another. I was scared of pregnancy, childbirth, baby years, no sleep, ruining my relationship, everything. Different husbands in my case but I am so so glad we had dd, she's a joy. And it is SO much easier second time round, or it was for me anyway.

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 03/11/2007 10:27

read it swap it

I keep meaning to look into it but never get around to it

WideWebWitch · 03/11/2007 11:08

Oh THANK YOU FIS. I can't be arsed to go to the library today as it shuts at 12 but I reckon I've got enough unfinished/unread around the house to last me next week I reckon and then I can go to the library/use that site the week after.
