WWW's six week 10 year younger boot camp, November 07 already, WEEK ONE AGAIN, all welcome

WideWebWitch · 28/10/2007 19:19

Hello! This is week one of the ninth WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2007 although we have been a bit lost along the way, apologies and welcome everyone.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even thought it's autumn
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage

I am most certainly going to be very seriously doing this over the next six months as I have an horrendous commute and the only way of getting through it is enough sleep/good food/no wine in the week so, do join us, everyone is welcome.

As usual I have been crap and have eaten wonderful things all weekend and last week as it was half term. But it has to stop as I am corpulent and lethargic so I intend to be an example to you all!

In the meantime, this morning I had a sausage in a roll followed by 2 slices of bacon in a roll and then wow, dh's amazing beef pie, which he made yesterday, followed by treacle tart from the local farm shop WITH clotted cream and I drank some wine last night but not that much and fell asleep cudding dd at about 9.30pm. Hmm. Being happy and going to bed early but not much else so I MUST improve!

We went away for the weekend, so I had a great time on the happiness front, but ate for Wales and now feel like a Whale. Cooked breakfast, anyone? Roast dinner? Ice cream? Kettle chips? Galaxy? Dear me - think I ate a year's worth of my Weight Watchers points allowance over a week, as DS was 3 last Wednesday and much chocolate cake was eaten and beer and wine consumed (by us, not him, obviously) and it has gone downhill from there.

We have half term this week so I need to go and separate my fighting monsters little darlings.

swedishmum · 29/10/2007 13:05

Tortoiseshell's quite right about eating alone - I get really bored when I'm in the house alone. That's when I tend to eat toast and other things that make me lethargic.
I'm totally exhausted today - up at 5 when dh left for the week, 10 for Sunday lunch yesterday and I guess most of it is down to too many late nights and too much alcohol recently. My clothes all look horrid on me and I need a good kick into action.
My target for today is to find 4 everyday outfits I'm happy with (in my wardrobe, not the shops) and buy some gorgeous healthy food.

shreddies · 29/10/2007 13:34

MadScaryHouse I'd like to know that too.

iota · 29/10/2007 17:51

Hello all

I'm back after a prolonged absence.

I have tonsilitis, which I managed to contract whilst enjoying a few days in Snowdonia with my loved ones at half-term.

On the plus side, having a really sore throat cuts down on one's eating, but the negative is that it also cuts down on exercise as I feel as limp as a lettuce leaf.

Another plus is no alcohol whilst taking antibiotics.

So, I suppose that I'm sort of on hold at the mo, but will be aiming to get back to bootcamp as soon as I am fit again.

Good luck to everyone in the countdown to Christmas - I really need to lose a few pounds so that I can put them back on again in Dec

Dingle · 29/10/2007 20:02

(Dingle creeps back in and tries to hover in a corner un-noticed!)

Can I return please? Life has been a nightmare. We are around 17 weeks into our extension and I am feeling absolutley drained both physically and emotionally. We have had a couple of floods, one wrecked the only room in the house that had already been plastered and frazzled our PC so we had to get a new one. A few weeks after that the TV fizzled out, followed by the DVD player then the emersion tank needed replacing. All this on top of the building work has been rather a strain on all of us. The children are crying out for our attention and hubby and me are spending nearly every spare minute trying to keep the house and safe and secure and "homelike" for the kiddies. DD's therapies have taken a nose dive (she has Down Syndrome) and I am fed up of running around like a headless chicken. On a positive note though, after 3 years of fighting - DD now has a statement in place and support in the classroom, so I hope to take more of a back seat as her therapist and teacher and be her mum instead.
On top of all that I have started working again, only for a few hours a week, but I haven't really worked since DD was born and she is 6 this week!!
I feel I need a total new start but just haven't the energy or motivation. Where do I start?
Sorry for all the waffle, need to get it off my chest!

unknownrebelbang · 29/10/2007 20:57

www, I do hope today went well for you.

mil sounds a treasure batters .

Hope you're feeling better soon Iota.

That all sounds nightmarish Dingle!

Ok, so today, I did really well food-wise...until we tried to do toffee apples at cubs! The microwave only seems to work on one setting, and we sort of burnt the toffee! Guess who ended up eating most of the crumbly mis instead? Very nice it was too, lol.

Sunscreen yy
No booze yy
Brief walk across town + 20 mins Ex Bike - aiming to do another short burst before bedtime.
Lots of water and weak tea.
Liberal with handcream. Need to moisturise my feet more.
Doing reasonably well at bedtimes - aiming for 11 pm.

Be happy - cubs was a good laugh, with cocking up the toffee, but we half-witnessed a rather nasty incident this afternoon which left me shaky. Shopping for school shoes with DS2+3, DH (off-duty) suddenly disappeared after hearing some screeching and shouting, and several other coppers came racing up the precinct. Apparently a bloke who was being questioned about an assault, hit a policewoman who batoned, whilst dealing with this, she was then surrounded by his mates. DH eventually managed to get the cuffs on him. Whilst all this was going on I had to try to keep the boys in the shop but they were obviously curious as to what daddy was doing. Unfortunately, it's playing a little bit on DS2's mind. Sorry, I don't suppose any of this is really relevant to the thread.

UnionJack · 30/10/2007 07:31

I did well on my first day in MOST areas. Then had my usual bedtime lapse and stuffed two Tim Tam bars down my throat whilst making packed lunches.

I think evening may be a flash point for me. I'd done so well during the day! Didn't quite manage the 2L of water, but not far off.

TheMadScaryHouse · 30/10/2007 09:05

I am looking for the sunscrean - any ideas please

puddle · 30/10/2007 11:08

Hello all - thought there would be a 10 year younger thread!

Am back after a bit of a MN break. Have gone all hardcore though - am doing a 30 day detox. The book promises I will be feeling and looking marvellous by the end of the November - I hope so as I really need to kick start some healthier eating.

So I will join you on the no booze, walking, water, early nights and body cream. Will be eating super healthily and (somewhat scarily) I have to get to grips with skin brushing and epsom salts baths.......will report back.

iota · 30/10/2007 11:58

Dingle - that sounds grim

URB - not nice, but well done your dh.

No sign of WWW? - hope her day went OK

hollyhobbie · 30/10/2007 12:15

I'm in! Got to kick that sweet tooth that I developed in pregnancy - DS is 7 month old now and I still eat chocolate most evenings

I always wear moisturiser with SPF15 and lipsalve with SPF20, but do you also put sunscreen on your hands?

TheDucHearseOfCorpseBride · 30/10/2007 19:06

Hello everyone.

unknownrebel - that all sounds scary, but terribly exciting too. I'm sure you can talk DS2 round it. Those boys of your are not still leaping out of windows are they?!

I'm not doing too badly. Had a long walk today in beautiful sunshine. I've eaten lots of fruit and veg but still drinking a can of Pepsi .

Sunscreen yes, it's in my moisturiser (and I do my hands too Holly - Estee Lauder handcream has a built in SPF).

Hellishly busy my pre-schools Autumn Fair. It's on Saturday and predictably, in the last few days, it's all going tits-up.

I'm getting early nights but am fretting about the Fair so not sleeping well. I hope things improve next week when it's all over.

How is the new job WWW?

moonshine · 30/10/2007 19:46

Dingle sounds awful but maybe a few hours in a totally different environment will help lift your spirits (I started work in August after 6 years away in a totally new job and work place and must admit I love not being just'mummy' for a few hours - you'll soon get into the swing of it).

I accidently went on the homepage for the first time in months and saw where WWW has gone tip of the day!).

I always use moisturiser with sunscreen but I do have a Soltan one which is ok. But when I use that one up I shall probably go back to Clinique's City Block which is very good.

I have done 9200 steps today which is not bad for a work day and I am now cooking lemon chicken and not a pudding (seemed to have cooked biscuits/cakes etc everyday for ages). My coat is too tight and I am not buying a new one so tht is my motivation for the next 2 weeks. So I will be grumpy until it is more comfy - clothes that actually fit make all the difference to my mood (pathetic I know).

shreddies · 30/10/2007 20:16

Right, I did an hour long walk, which was great as it was such a beautiful day - and then had two choc chip biscuits at a friends house. Oh has my life come to this... worrying about biscuits

It was great to get out and get some exercise though, my resolution is to do an hours walking every day - agree with Moonshine, too tight clothes = big incentive

WideWebWitch · 30/10/2007 21:05

WORK HARDER AT THIS YOU LAZY FILTHY SLOBS!!!! I have read all of your posts but no time to reply to all of them individually as I need to talk to my husband but well done everyone and how lovely to read you all!

I have to report

  • New job fab so far, I'm thoroughly enjoying myself, makes me realise how shite old one was

  • commute SHITE BUT with saving grace of

  • good 3/4 min walk to station

  • good 5 minute brisk walk to tube platform once I get the other end

  • good 7 minute changing lines stomp

  • lots of stairs

  • 5 minute walk to office the other end

AND I work somewhere with meeting rooms at one end of a big building and my desk at another so I am DEFINITELY getting another good ten minutes brisk walking in at work (indoors though). I MUST remember to put my Omron back on, but I am pleased at the amount of walking I'm doing and it's easily half an hour a day. I wear my trainers and today left my heels under my desk rather than bringing them back in my bag...

and this is day THREE with no booze, I am gasping for it to be Friday. There is no way I can do the commute and job with even the odd glass of wine in the week so welcome to my wagon, I'll be on it for a while I feel.

and, and, and, I am very busy so hardly any time to think about eating. Mind, you, on this thin person lark, I wanted to eat something at Euston tonight and nearly bought a packet of crisps but then thought, no, if you're really hungry, have a banana and so I bought a banana instead.

Today
100g granola
2 apples
tuna mayonnaise (but homemade, light mayo) sandwich
hazelnut bar, 105 cals
banana
and dh made thai green chicken curry tonight which isn't low fat but never mind

and that's it! And yesterday:

100g granola
proscuitto and mustard sandwich
hazelnut bar
apple
salmon steak, salad, new potatoes
erm, some Quality St. Oh well, at least no wine

So, I am feeling happy and even though the commute is long I think a good book is the key, well, that and 1st class although they're ruthless bastards, you still have to be tough to make sure you get a seat!

Hope everyone's having a good week

I have tip of the day? Is it a shitey one I entered to try to win a competition?

UnionJack · 30/10/2007 21:09

Been better today!

Weetabix and banana
Ok, one measley choc chip cookie at coffee break

Veg stirfry

ok, one handful kids halloween sweets (For The love of God, WHYYYY??)

I/2 piece toast scrambled egg

One hours hard circuit training

Lots of water

Feel better

WILL lose muffin top by Christmas.

swedishmum · 30/10/2007 21:23

Glad the job's great WWW - don't envy you the commute though!
Today I've had Americano instead of latte while out, most of a smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel, steamed monkfish with green vegetables (tiny amount of pesto) and rocket. No alcohol, 2l of water and sunscreen. Does a day chasing dd3 round Bluewater count as exercise? It's much easier to be healthy with dh away.

unknownrebelbang · 30/10/2007 21:53

Glad it's going well www.

Duchess, my boys are quite sedate at the moment, lol. DS2 seems ok today.

Sunscreen - yy
No booze
1 hr on the exercise bike, instead of walking.
Lots of water/weak tea.
Hand cream AND foot cream today.
Go to bed early - up too late last night, will try harder.
Eat healthily - ish, plenty of fruit.
Be happy - hmm, work is disintegrating around my ears.

Hello
Have just found this site.
Are u following a set diet plan & what is granola?

winnie · 31/10/2007 12:44

Hi all,

I've not abandoned the bootcamp I am just PC less at home right now

I am feeling really yuk about myself. I think I have been treading water so long at this weight that although I had lost 3.5 stone in the first half of the year I am now feeling as sh*t about myself as I did at New Year. Does that make sense? Anyway, I MUST lose a stone by Christmas.

Had the chance to do some wall climbing last MOnday but stood looking on desperate to join in but refusing to humiliate myself at the size I am at. I felt very cross with myself as it is something I've always wanted to do. Ho hum... I am holding on to that feeling in order to push myself and focus on doing this properly again.

hollyhobbie · 31/10/2007 13:24

Yesterday got off to a bad start, as I wasn't in bed anytime near 10.30 - had a parent's evening at DD's playgroup and it went on and on (and I ate choc chip cookies there).
Missed the bus so did a brisk walk this morning though. Will look into sunscreen for hands, thanks TheDucHearseOfCorpseBride for the Estee Lauder tip.

prufrock · 31/10/2007 13:38

www - glad the job is good. Dh copes with a long commute by working in the am (could you get a crackberry so you can deal with leftover e-mails from last night before you get in?) and relaxing in the pm - reading the paper or a magazine usually as he doesn't "do" books. It means when he does get home he is relaxed and happy to do kids (lucky me). and I'mgload you've gone first class - it realy is the only way to cope with such a long journey

Duchess - I see you your "autumn fair going tits up" and raise you "having to sack the head of parish council and the vicar as trustees" which was my hell on Monday night. Thye didn't take it at all well, but their continued presence on our committee was in contravention of our consitution.

prufrock · 31/10/2007 13:42

I've been quite good - coped with Monday night without any wine. Yesterday ate well (am remembering to have breakfast) and did a manic hour of boxing with my personal trainer. Today I did have a blueberry muffin and skinny latte when in town, but that's better than the caramel latte and choc brownie that had started becoming my usual order.

winnie. You can do this. You will do this.

Shannar - no set diet - just eat healthily, whatever that means for you. And granola is like a crunchy muesli
