WWW's six week 10 year younger boot camp, November 07 already, WEEK ONE AGAIN, all welcome

WideWebWitch · 28/10/2007 19:19

Hello! This is week one of the ninth WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2007 although we have been a bit lost along the way, apologies and welcome everyone.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even thought it's autumn
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage

I am most certainly going to be very seriously doing this over the next six months as I have an horrendous commute and the only way of getting through it is enough sleep/good food/no wine in the week so, do join us, everyone is welcome.

As usual I have been crap and have eaten wonderful things all weekend and last week as it was half term. But it has to stop as I am corpulent and lethargic so I intend to be an example to you all!

In the meantime, this morning I had a sausage in a roll followed by 2 slices of bacon in a roll and then wow, dh's amazing beef pie, which he made yesterday, followed by treacle tart from the local farm shop WITH clotted cream and I drank some wine last night but not that much and fell asleep cudding dd at about 9.30pm. Hmm. Being happy and going to bed early but not much else so I MUST improve!

ooooh prufrock - you sacked the vicar - you're going to hell for sure

TheDucHearseOfCorpseBride · 31/10/2007 18:48

prufrock - never a dull moment when your Chair! I'm counting the months until I'm shot of it! And I've got such a good excuse now not to continue - someone else will HAVE to do it!

Have now read the whole thread and apologies to MadScaryHouse that nobody's answered your question yet - but I can't help with a cheap sunscreen that's good for sensitive skin because I've used Estee Lauder moisturisers with built-in SPFs since I was 20. Anything that leaves a sheen on my skin is fatally spot-producing but if I'm out in very hot weather I use the childrens Nivea sunscreen.

Just sticking to the bootcamp rules should help that post-baby weight get moving. I didn't lost weight for much longer than you so don't worry about it. The rules will also help you to start looking after yourself again - the moisturiser, the water, the early nights. It's easy to get out of the habit of doing these things when you have a house of small children. And post about your days performance - it's a real incentive. Welcome to bootcamp!

shannaratiger - granola is actually very broken up dog biscuit. But don't tell everyone! They all swear by it.

TheDucHearseOfCorpseBride · 31/10/2007 18:48

or even "when YOU ARE Chair". Tch! at my grammar!

WideWebWitch · 31/10/2007 21:20

Granola is not broken dog biscuit! You cheeky mare! It's oats and dried berries and I have it dry (I don't like milk really) and it's delicious and sets you up for the day. Oh god, did I really say that? I am middle aged, oops. 100g of it is about 400 cal

Well done everyone, Winnie, I was only telling someone earlier today that some of us KNOW we feel better when we're doing this and know it supports us well when life is stressful. So welcome back. And 3.5 stone is AMAZING! Well done!

Prufrock lol at vicar etc and well done on no wine. I am reading both ways and really quite enjoying it - I don't want a crackberry, no way do I want to work on the train, the reading's making it bearable. I've finished Piers Morgan's latest and am half way through Duncan Bannatyne's Anyone can do it. I think I am going to have to allow myself a book budget, it makes it bearable.

Hello hollyhobbie, well done on the walking

Shannaratiger, look at the first post, that'll tell you the plan, welcome.

Iota, don't think I didn't see you lurking in the corner...

Well done unionjack, are you sure you're eating enough? Don't starve yourself, there's loads of stuff about it on the last thread

well done swedishmum, good progress

unknownrelbang, well done on no booze

batters, me too re eating when I'm stressed/happy/sad/bored. Hmm, like smoking, that pretty much covers most moods! Hope trick or treating is good.

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 31/10/2007 21:25

Today

100g granola
lots of brisk commuter like walking - I am aching ALL OVER so it MUST be doing sometihng, please let it be doing something
an apple
homemade proscuitto and tomato sandwich
packet prawn wotsits (100cal)
a packet of those small sweeties, fizzy things like refreshers, anyway, one of those, can't be much
a hazelnut and sultana bar, 100cal
spag bol, made by dh when I came in, bless him, I've been walking in to a tidy house, clean children in pyjamas and food about to be on the table. He's wonderful.

And this is DAY FOUR with no booze. And I have pmt but am feeling surprisingly cheerful - which might be the exercise helping now I come to think of it - and the minute my period starts there goes another few pounds in bloat so that's good.

Half way through the week everyone!

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 31/10/2007 21:26

Oh I had some Quality St last night too, oops. Oh well, it's better than wine.

prufrock · 31/10/2007 21:31

www - no book budget - bad girl. You need a library.

Can you find one near work - then you can make it an extra lunchtime outing. Don't dismiss working on the train - you might be able to negotiate an earlier leaving time/late start time if you commit to being available whilst travelling

Hello, can I come back??
I've sort of been lurking but need to get things back on track, especially after half-term. It was very high on the happiness front (it was SO nice to have some time with DD that didn't involve rushing to get to school or coping with her being EXCEEDINGLY crabby from having been at school) but it did involve a LOT of unhealthy cooking/eating and not as much excercise as walking to school

I haven't got a definite aim anymore (other than to continue to not look like the oldest mum at the school gate even though I probably still am!) so maybe I can nick the 'lose a few lbs before Christmas so I can put them on again' one! Might need to be a little less vague if I am actually to achieve anything.

Winnie - lovely to hear from you. I heartily agree with the others, 3.5 stone is a VERY impressive amount of weight to have lost in a year. And to have maintained that loss whilst going through a horrible time is nothing short of amazing. You WILL get up that wall and we'll help you get there

Pre-school committee horror stories are making me glad I am about to stand down as Secretary. Its been a quiet year thankfully so can probably only go one way!! I'll lurk in the background until DS starts next year then think about my 'commitments'

foxinsocks · 31/10/2007 22:13

how long did the commute end up being door to door WWW?

Glad the job is going well.

I have had no booze for ages now . Can't say I've seen enormous benefits though but I do notice now when I don't drink enough water (amazing how the body gets used to drinking the extra fluid so quickly).

unknownrebelbang · 31/10/2007 22:14

Evening all.

Winnie, that's a hell of an achievement!

Sunscreen - yy
No booze - even though I've been to the pub and planned on having one or two, when I got there, just didn't fancy it.
20 mins on the exercise bike, plus brisk walk to the pub and back - turning down a lift both ways.
Lots of water/weak tea.
Hand cream - yy.
Go to bed early - slightly better last night.
Eat healthily - ish, plenty of fruit.
Be happy - yes, lovely evening at a colleague's retirement reminiscing (and whinging about thw way fings aint wot they used to be, lol, with lots of colleagues, including one who's retired to Italy.

swedishmum · 01/11/2007 12:28

I resorted to wine last night - after spending between 2.45 and 6.45 driving/picking up children and hanging around at their various activities, it was too much when 3yo dd wanted to make biscuits and "do" Hallowe'en (she'd been hyped into it by dd2 who was going to a party). Still, never mind. The healthy eating, water and sunscreen are all going well.

Marina · 01/11/2007 13:01

Hello all. Have monstrous cold and work angst, so am not walking/staggering as much as I should over the last 48 hours
Winnie, I would be as proud as a proud thing of that magnificent achievement - done all by yourself and without the support network that some of us have if we can be arsed to make use of it .
After the latest study convincingly linking obesity with cancer risk I am sitting here ticking like a lardy bomb and thinking this time I really HAVE got to boot camp seriously.
Am drinking shedloads of water with a Lemsip chaser at the mo...
Welcome back feetheart and other wandering campers - maybe we should restyle ourselves boot-semi-nomadic-dwellers or something

feetheart · 01/11/2007 14:27

I need to do some work, I've just had Thomcat making me cry and now you Marina - need more water to replace tears now

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 01/11/2007 19:03

Nice to see some more of you slinking back to bootcamp...!

After a reasonable few days, I felt horribly sick again this morning. I didn't sleep well and that always makes things worse.

Have survived the day though. The Autumn Fair is under control and I'm rather excited about it now - mostly because it means it will soon be over!

I have eaten an orange, glass of coke with a folic acid tablet, glass of lime cordial with Spatone chaser , one slice of cheese on toast, 2 fruit pastilles, more lime cordial, some green salad, a couple of boiled potatoes but I failed to eat the beef & red wine pie. With such a little appetite it's no wonder I'm not showing yet (2nd and 3rd pregnancies were very obvious from about 8 weeks!).

DollyPopsOut · 01/11/2007 20:43

May I join you please? I am going back to work after ML in 3 weeks time and would like to feel better about myself. I have DD1 aged 2.6 and DD2 aged 8 months. I also have a spare tyre left over from DD2 and the most enormous boobs you could have the misfortune to meet . Hope they will shrink over the next few weeks.

Can anyone enlighten me about the Omron pedometer? I have had several normal pedos over the years and never really got on with any of them. Is it worth the ££££ and where does one get them? I walk MILES with a double buggy every day as we don't have a car at the moment, so it would be great to see the steps notching up.

ONly just stumbled on this thread with glass of Cava in hand but will join you in weekday abstinence from next week - are the wine free days Mon to Fri or Sun to thurs?

DollyPopsOut · 01/11/2007 20:46

Duchess - had bad MS with both mine. Have you tried Tonic Water and wine gums {not together}? They were the only things I could keep down for about 10 weeks with DD1. I also ate a lot of mash with DD2 as it was bland. Hope it eases for you soon.

Hello everyone!

Sobernow, that's good on the not much wine front at least, so were you in starvation mode then?

DollyPO, welcome, Omron is from Amazon, yes it's good, I MUST use mine again, it's no good
sitting in my bag

DofN, sorry to hear about morning sickness, your food sounds VILE! Hope it's helping though!

Hello feetheart, welcome back

Marina, sorry aobut your cold. Me too on lardy time bomb, saw The Standard headline about cancer and fat and then read it and it went on to say don't eat bacon and proscuitto and salami so me too on that...

Swedishmum, oh well, it's one night and that sounds like hell so you probably needed it and it can be excused on the happiness front

Unknownrelbang, that sounds good on all fronts, well done.

FIS how long is ages, hmm? The commute is, I'm afraid, 2 hours door to door. But since most of that is sitting on my arse reading so far I don't mind. I have now finished the Duncan Bannatyne book too and dh has pointed out that I MUST go to the library as otherweise our shelves (no room on them anyway) will get cluttered with books I won't read again blah blah. Anyway, we just established that in my old job I got up at 6.15am and got home in the evening at 6.30pm and now I am getting up at 5.50am and getting home at 7.30pm, so there's not that much in it. And I get a seat most of the time so so far, so good.

WideWebWitch · 01/11/2007 21:46

And no booze for me is Sunday - Thursday whoever asked.

So, this is day FIVE of no booze for me
not a great day

granola
cheese sandwich (homemade, not much cheese, didn't eat crusts)
apple
wotsits
apple and raisin bar, 145 cal
some sweets at work oops
half an american pizza
and cheese on toast
oops

I have been good on water, good on walking (out of necessity more than anything) and good on early nights and no booze, just not good on sunscreen, must remember that tomorrow.

I cannot WAIT for tomorrow night, we're having a takeaway (I will have tandoori chicken) and wine.

cerys · 01/11/2007 21:56

Well, my week of excess caught up with me when I got on the scales at WW yesterday - 4lbs on! IN A WEEK! Fortunately the leader is not like Marjorie Dawes, but I feel I must have a loss next week. I have been Very Very Good and healthy with my food intake today, have been for a run and am going in the bath (run for me by my lovely DH) now before bed.

I am not walking as much as I used to - I used to walk a couple of miles a day with DS in the buggy. Now he walks too, but obviously not very far before needing to be carried. Or wanting to get on a bus. So I need to get some extra walks or short runs in somewhere.

hello to the new bootcampers, and hi to the fellow returners shuffling back in, shamefaced

unknownrebelbang · 01/11/2007 23:02

Sunscreen - yy
No booze -
45 mins on the exercise bike.
Lots of water/weak tea.
Hand cream - yy.
Go to bed early - bed by 11, sleep by 11.30 - that's good for me.
Eat healthily - Not particularly, and really struggle not to binge today.
Be happy - well on the one hand, am miffed cos me and DH should have been having time off together tomorrow whilst DS2 and DS3 were on a school trip and we can't now. On the other, I can't be cross with him, because he's also going on the school trip because a member of staff is off sick, so he's stepped in, lol.

prufrock · 01/11/2007 23:11

I've been good agin. Thursday and I'm still being good. I even went to teh pub tonight (to try to persuade old pre-school manager to come back) and drank 2 large glasses of sparkling water

Did have pizza express pizza for tea, but had deliciously healthy lunch at wagamama, and have drunk so much iquid as I'm starting to get a cold and have asociated raging thirst.

swedishmum · 01/11/2007 23:59

Eating's very healthy - cutting out bread which makes me lethargic - but I have been drinking tonight because I had friends round. Not much though. The water's really helping but I've got out of a sleep pattern - if I go to sleep too early I'm wide awake at 3am. Still feeling positive.
