Hunter wellies - overpriced or worth it?

What do you think of Hunter wellies? I need a pair of either wellies or hiking boots for walking the dog on rainy days as our park gets v muddy. Currently using old trainers which get super caked in mud on an almost daily basis.
So thought I’d get Hunters as a lot of people in the park have them. I know they’re expensive but was thinking that if I keep them for a few year (5-10) the cost per wear will be minimal. But then I read some reviews that said the quality not what it used to be and in some cases soles came off, rubber crumbled etc etc after 3 months. But others singing their praises.
What has been your experience? I considered getting some waterproof hiking boots instead. Just thinking wellies would be easier to just rinse off after a walk. Would be used at least once a day in winter. I’ve looked at other brands but want something comfortable to walk in for 2-3 miles.
Thank you!

Cotswolds wellies are great, not as high end price as some but absolutely do the job, well built and warm. They also have a stub on the back of the heel for pushing your boot off with the other foot which I love. 😆

Thank you so much everyone! You are amazing, really good to hear real experiences and practical advice.
I’ve decided to get a pair of good hiking boots for now as it’s more the mud than puddles that I have to contend with here + I might do some counter try walks with my son’s Scouts group as and when we’re allowed to.
Thank you to the country set Wink for all the alternatives to try too! I just live the collective wisdom of the MN hive. Have a lovely day everyone 🐕‍🦺

@KimchiLaLa

I just got some and they seem pretty hard wearing.
But you just got them so how do you know? Smile

Until recently I lived in the countryside and dog walked in wellies every day.
As many have said Hunters Ines to last, but alas no more.
We now buy from country/farm type shops, the most sturdy looking ones. As much as I like the look of fashion wellies they aren’t good enough for proper country dog walk.

I have Ariat waterproof boots but they are too nice for deep mud. You can't go wrong with muck boots. Otherwise if it's really cold I just wear an old pair of Ugg fleece lined boots smeared with gubbin and otter waterproof socks.

Dubbin not gubbin
