Are these leather jackets classic?

And even if they are classic, would you think that a 50 something woman would look like she was trying to look edgy! I am only 5'1''

No immediate plans to buy either, just wondering if I'm too old for this style. I dress simply but I"m fussy about what I'll wear.

I like the tan one best. I'm fairly young and no I wouldn't think you were trying to be edgy though I don't think you should give a toss if someone does think so. Edgy is cool regardless of age.

Horsemad · 16/01/2021 15:52

Neither are to my taste, I like a biker jacket style myself.
However, it's up to you what you wear! 🙂

WiseOwlRelaxing · 16/01/2021 15:53

Yeh, I don't really care! Don't know why I said that. I think I'd know instinctively if a style worked for me or not! A lot of styles that come in to fashion just do not work for me. Wider legs that are cropped as well! Won't be going there.

I don't like them, sorry. Prefer biker style - not keen on the bottom/elastic-looking bits.

tinselearedcow · 16/01/2021 15:56

OP I am over 50 and wear leather biker jackets and I'd also wear the style you've posted, I really like them.

fairydustandpixies · 16/01/2021 15:56

I love those, the tan one more so. I'm 49 and would wear them! Go for it OP!

RunnerDown · 16/01/2021 15:59

I’m older than you and love my leather jackets. Don’t like the style you’ve posted tho. I prefer more fitted ones . Like this [ www.massimodutti.com/gb/women/collection/leather/nappa-leather-biker-jacket-c1725511p9111912.html?colorId=700&categoryId=1725511

Worldbarbie · 16/01/2021 16:02

@RunnerDown my kind of Jacket too! Wink

Sasuma · 16/01/2021 16:02

Hmm not sure about either of those styles. The material is very shiny and I don’t think the shape is as classic as a biker style. I’m not sure about the elastic/bottom on them. I don’t think it’s an age thing, I think there are better jackets out there. Where are they from?

ScrapThatThen · 16/01/2021 16:16

I like grey ones www.google.com/shopping/product/7629354781821812686?q=Grey+leather+jacket&client=ms-android-google&biw=393&bih=680&tbs=cat:5598,vw:g,init_ar:SgVKAwjeK0oHsgQECPanIA%3D%3D,ss:44&prmd=sinv&sxsrf=ALeKk00Mt7ESRu9hQC49RdBo3_GRfKaHMw:1610813746671&prds=epd:4723344427118849201,paur:ClkAsKraX1HOGaTnfQGApE2Bh1liwpE-Fc7i_vwPFQoT2rraZrBUzBkCHvEnyLYGX0Tvj1O1x1kUCIkk1kaHjLqeivsm19VFgDChUvam6G6DQTWoj3TwIJLE8xIZAFPVH72IgvkfEmPd5DlchPW2Fbep567yhQ,cdl:1,prmr:1,cs:1

The yellow one looks odd with the contrasting patches, so definitely not a classic. The brown doesn't have that issue.

I don't think leather jackets have the Edgy connotation they did when we were young Grin

I say go for it - it will take a basic outfit up a level.

merryhouse · 16/01/2021 16:26

(and I don't like the Massimo one, with all those ridiculous floppy zips and flaring out at the bottom)

RunnerDown · 16/01/2021 16:54

@merryhouse
We all have different tastes. Maybe it’s enough to say you don’t like something - bit rude to make further disparaging comments

Puppylucky · 16/01/2021 17:21

I love them! I think they are more interesting than bikers which are a bit ubiquitous and would look great with the newer looser fit jeans cuts- very retro. The burgandy one is my favourite - where are they from?

Ellapaella · 16/01/2021 17:36

@WiseOwlRelaxing i love the burgundy/ox blood one. I used to have a similar one 10 years ago but lost it in a house move. I would love another like it.

sweetaffaj · 16/01/2021 17:39

I think if you feel like these will suit you then go for it. They are the kind of jackets that could look pretty nice or terrible but I would avoid the tan. Something about it is a bit sickly? Wear it with confidence whatever you do :)

supportivemyarse · 16/01/2021 18:42

bomber jackets are classic and can be very cool. depends what you wear it with. they don't suit me because tits (unless I'm trying to look like a potato) but eg. Julia Hobbs (Vogue) looks amazing in one.

Tehmina23 · 16/01/2021 18:45

I like the darker one but not the tan one

ChocolateSantaisthebestkind · 16/01/2021 19:00

I wouldn't call that a classic style, but it might be for you. I think classics vary depending on what suits the individual. For example, roll necks are an acknowledged classic, but make me look like a Carry On actress, camel makes me look ill and I dislike navy, burgundy or black as single colours. Whereas, bold coloured wrap dresses and big jewelry make me look amazing!

Ruthietuthie · 16/01/2021 19:15

I think they are lovely, especially the darker one. It reads as a neutral piece, that would finish off many outfits. I am always a bit dubious about the concept of "classic" anyway, as things change (an 1980s "classic" navy blazer would have a very different cut than one today, and would look dated rather than classic). If I saw someone wearing this, I would like their style. The burgundy one looks polished.

TenThousandSpoons · 16/01/2021 19:18

I love the darker one - where is it from? I don’t think you’re too old or that it will look edgy.

WiseOwlRelaxing · 17/01/2021 01:15

They're both from Coach.

This is true. It's just another way of selling clothes, ie, these clothes are classic For a while, maybe!

caperplips · 17/01/2021 02:06

I don't love either of them but out of the two I like the burgundy one best.
I am not a fan of biker jackets either. I find them v old fashioned or predictable. I'm 50 & have never owned one & likely never will.
I do have a v neat leather jacket with no buttons/ zip & no collar from a small boutique in Italy (in a sale) I like it but wear it infrequently

SpeckledyHen · 17/01/2021 07:11

If the shape and colour suits your figure then go for it . Bomber jackets are definitely classic , having been in production for more than 25 years which I believe the definition?
