We just got my gran one for her 70th. I (30) would def not use one.

LastRoloIsMine · 14/01/2021 21:24

I bought a Radley rucksack about 5 years ago (38) it was in a sale and has weathered well from almost daily use.

I probably fall in to the old lady bracket Grin but its a nice style practical and I bought it because I liked it not because it was a so and so brand.

ParisJeTAime · 14/01/2021 21:31

I've never seen one I like and I dislike the little dog thing. But, if I saw a nice bag which happened to be Radley and I was in the market for a bag, I would buy it and not care.

YouBoggleMyMind · 14/01/2021 21:32

I love my Radley bag and I am 33! 😭

SoDiorDarling · 14/01/2021 21:34

@YouBoggleMyMind your user name Grin

No I probably unfairly dislike it. My old French teacher at school also loved a radley bag and she was awful.

Laufeythejust · 14/01/2021 21:40

I love radley bags and I’m 29. I don’t care if they’re old fashioned, they are good quality, last me ages and are a good size to fit all my work stuff in. My radley purse looks brand new and it’s 5 years old. There’s some really good sales at the minute too!

YouBoggleMyMind · 14/01/2021 21:41

It's just a black cross body bag as I swapped my other handbag for a baby change bag!

@SoDiorDarling 😁 and I guess your username means you'd prefer a Dior bag 😁😁😁

Chillypenguin · 14/01/2021 21:43

They can be a bit middle aged handbag, but some of the designs are fab. I have a bright yellow box shaped one and got so many compliments.

SoDiorDarling · 14/01/2021 21:43

Yup, you got it @YouBoggleMyMind the all black Lady Dior Halo

Icenii · 14/01/2021 21:43

I think they're a really nice shape. Does it matter having a bag someone older likes?

whaa · 14/01/2021 21:46

Oh dear, I still think of them as new and trendy!

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 14/01/2021 21:47

Strong dislike and I’m 50. They conjure up images of overly neat women who say ‘but that’s just me’ in a smug fashion. Probably unfair, but like many objects / items of clothing, they create an image in my mind.

SoDiorDarling · 14/01/2021 21:49

@YellowandGreenToBeSeen you've described it well, I agree. It's not fair but I can't help but think tbe same.

Shmithecat2 · 14/01/2021 21:49

I hate the bloody Scotty dog. It irrationally irritates me. I do have a Radley bag though, and the only obvious trace of the dog was a dangly charm thing which was, thankfully, removable. I love the bag itself.

KellyLorraine · 14/01/2021 21:50

My mum has a couple (she's 65). I would never consider one myself as think of them as an older women's brand. My mothers Radley bags are very nice though and seem to be good quality.

TheCap · 14/01/2021 21:51

I’m 40 and wouldn’t buy a Radley bag. They just seem very Twee in my opinion. My mum has a Radley coin purse that a friend bought her and the leather is nice quality though.
I’ve just treated myself to a DeMellier bag with some money from my parents for Christmas and I can’t wait until it arrives!

AnnaSW1 · 14/01/2021 21:52

I think it's because they are intended for older people. I bought one for granny for Xmas. It's lovely but not for my age group in my opinion. She loves it. So that's great.

Sidge · 14/01/2021 21:52

I’ve got 4. I love them.

My newest one doesn’t have the dog on. It’s a beautiful wine colour. Plain and square looking - I hate fussy bags with stuff all over them and too many straps and bits of stuff and logos.

I buy them at the outlet so they’re not so pricey. They last ages. I don’t care if they’re on trend or seen as “for old ladies”. I like them.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 14/01/2021 22:07

@SoDiorDarling I know it’s not kind but similarly to as @TheCap has said, the image I see in my minds eye is twee.

RagamuffinCat · 14/01/2021 22:11

I love them, but I suppose I could be someone who likes "twee" things anyway! I'm 35, so older but certainly not elderly. I'm not one to follow fashions though, I just buy things I like regardless of their popularity.

hammeringinmyhead · 15/01/2021 00:05

I've had a few - but it was my mum who originally got me into them! I'm 36.

When you do a bit of googling, they did an instagram campaign in the last few years targeting a "younger" demographic which to them was 35-44, suggesting their original target market was 45 and up. Not "old" but I probably wouldn't buy one for a 21st gift.

There's nothing wrong with them, but one of my pet hates is a smart black boxy Radley bag with a multicoloured anorak and sensible walking trainers. I don't think they're a buy-one-and-use-everyday style. This looks quite corporate to me!

QueenOfPain · 15/01/2021 00:07

I’m 34, my mum is 56, neither of us would be seen dead with a Radley. They are grandma handbags.

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 15/01/2021 00:08

I've got a Radley purse, never been able to afford a bag Grin. I love it. I'm 36.
My cousin is 38 and has loads of Radley bags. My Mum and Auntie (not cousins Mum of that's relevant) also have them. They are both 60.
I'm of the "if you like it and can afford it then buy it" opinion.

IloveJudgeJudy · 15/01/2021 00:16

DM has a Radley. I'm not a fan but I'm quite fond of their purses. They at least have space for many cards and the leather is quite soft.

OrangePlumGrape · 15/01/2021 00:20

I’m 35 and wouldn’t buy one, they’re more my mother / grandmother’s age bracket. Nothing wrong with them at all but they don’t do anything for me.
