An ex boyfriend gave me one as a birthday gift
It consolidated my suspicions he didn't quite get me
I sold it on eBay after we broke up Blush

SaladBowlsAndBasinsAndBuckets · 15/01/2021 00:47

Oh. I love my Radley bags. I've got 5. I only like the plainer designs though, some of them can be twee, I agree.

Mind you I probably am middle aged. Sobs.

S0CKS · 15/01/2021 08:25

In my 30s I have quite a nice one i use for work from an outlet store paid £50 wouldn't dream of spending £229 on a Radley.

S0CKS · 15/01/2021 08:26

Just to add i don't have the big dog thing on mine mine has a small discrete metal dog and I like that feature I find the big dog thing a bit off putting.

Bluebell9 · 15/01/2021 08:30

I'm 36 and I've got a number of radley bags. I probably got my first in my early 20s. They are fabulous quality and last so well.

SpeckledyHen · 15/01/2021 08:33

No thanks , not for this old lady . I will stick with my vintage Mulberry bags .Quality leather and no stupid dogs 🐕.

AdultHumanFemale · 15/01/2021 08:37

I've got a slouchy, boho-ish Grosvenor satchel and a slightly more structured Mortimer, not a Scotty dog in sight. The Grosvenor in particular gets comments.

They conjure up images of overly neat women who say ‘but that’s just me’ in a smug fashion.

So not me! I Radley bag owner (and a watch somewhere), couldn't be overly neat if I tried (more unmade bed) and have absolutely noting in my life to be smug about!

hammeringinmyhead · 15/01/2021 08:57

I loved my Grosvenor! Sadly no use to me now as I've switched to a backpack or crossbody.

I love this! They’ve chosen to brand themselves in a certain way by adding a cutsie dog emblem. I very much imagine it the bag of choice for women who wear cagoules. The fact that they now have nice designs without the dog and lovely non cagoule wearing customers doesn’t mean the image isn’t emblazoned in my mind.

teawamutu · 15/01/2021 09:14

I hate the applique/fancy styles, but I've been eyeing up the Grosvenor for years (since admiring one carried by a very Bright Young Thing at work).

LadyFlumpalot · 15/01/2021 09:35

I love a Radley. I think they are very pretty, yes, I even think that about the appliqué ones. In fact I asked for and got an especially cutesy one for Christmas.

I'm 36.

KirstenBlest · 15/01/2021 09:54

I think they are fine. Decent quality. Lots of different designs - some are a bit frumpy, some not.
I don't have one but I have a purse somewhere.

It's the MN hate - hotter shoes and fitflops get it too, and I'd say the same about those two brands, some designs are nice, but the quality is fine.

And M&S. I like loads of their stuff, but there are always threads on here slagging them off. Their shoes and bags are usually good.

You havent met me then, although i am middle aged
who cares what MN think of brands like Radley or Pandora, just shows it up for being one of the most narrow minded sites on the internet. So many posters have so little imagination that they cant conceive that everyone is different and like different things

RJnomore1 · 15/01/2021 10:02

I love them. I’m early 40s, not at all twee and I’ve never worn a cagoule in my life.

They’re well made abd reasonable priced. There’s a wide range of designs some I dislike; I like structured boxy bags. This is the sort of one I go for - not at all twee

KirstenBlest · 15/01/2021 10:07

The scottie dog is cute but they went a bit overboard with is at one point. That's in the past.

stillhappytohelp · 15/01/2021 10:16

I like them, as a PP has said I don’t go for the ones with dog print all over them but the plainer, simple designs are lovely and last ages.

Has anyone ordered online from them recently? Was thinking about ordering one for DSis for her birthday - does anyone know if they come all nicely done up in a dust bag like they do if you buy them in the shop?

ParisJeTAime · 15/01/2021 10:18

Oh yes, all my favourite shops (except Cos for some reason) get slated on MN. M&S, Seasalt, Hush, White Stuff, Joules Blush. I love 'em all. Sorry, not sorry mwahaha Wink.

You can't let it bother you though. I embrace the frump label Grin.

@stillhappytohelp I’ve ordered three bags from them recently and neither came with a dust bag 😞 A purse I ordered did though..
TallTowerFan · 15/01/2021 10:29

I have two Radley items. A card holder and a slouchy crossbody bag. I've no idea what styles they are as they are ebay purchases. There's no little dog on them and they're rather plain and functional.

I really only buy things if I like the style , I don't like heavily labelled things. I'm 41.

Im happy for people to reject Radley products (especially if they're a gift) , as it means I can continue to find things I like on ebay at a fraction of the new price.

Divebar · 15/01/2021 10:31

Just shows it up for being one of the most narrow minded sites on the internet

Quite the opposite. The fact that some people like something and others don’t like it means it’s the opposite of narrow minded... it’s diverse opinion. The OP asked the question.

1moreglassplease · 15/01/2021 10:33

stillhappytohelp - if you order online then the bag comes in a box with the dustbag folded up inside. Their bags come well packaged and I've never had one arrive in anything other than lovely condition. Always been happy with their customer service.

I've got loads and have used them for over 20 years. I don't get the hate for them on here as they are a well made bag for their price range and the colours and styles can be lovely. For everyone moaning about the Scotty dog - the tags and dangly bits have always been removable and their other branding tends to be more discreet. They've changed their styles over the last few years and I prefer them now. I take care of mine and they've lasted very well. I certainly don't fit into the twee category either Grin.

SoupDragon · 15/01/2021 10:36

not a Scotty dog in sight

There is one on each of those pictures 😂

I have a few Radley items. All have only a single scotty dog on them, the bags as a swing tag and the purse as a single, plain appliqué motif.

I've never understood the hate or the labelling of them as "old". I've seen many different ages of people with them. Some are not to my taste but surely that is the case with most people and most brands? If I like an item, I buy it regardless of brand.

bruffin · 15/01/2021 10:38

Op is only asking the question because MN is always criticizing choices like Radley etc. Op shouldn't have had to be scared of liking something in the first place and having to ask

There are far too many posts on "i cant stand this brand, book, film, i don't understand why others like it " or "What book , film , brand is overrated" it's also negative. Its never what's your favourite book or film.

KirstenBlest · 15/01/2021 10:44

I agree with Paris.

I went to Seasalt to look for a present for my DM, having previously walked past so many times.

The clothes are good quality, and I was really surprised to see lots of things I liked. And they go up to size 26 I think. Not that I was looking for larger sizes (not a stealth boast, DM & I are quite short) but it's good to know that you can buy nice clothes in a realistic range of sizes.

My taste in clothes is definitely not frumpy, but I have stuff from FatFace and M&S. From what I have seen from Joules and White Stuff, the fabric and construction is usually good.

It's how you put things together is what makes you look frumpy.
