I had her beauty book, Elizabeth Taylor's diet book, Victoria principle's beauty and diet books and also Maya Rubinstein's (Niece of Helena). Maya's had like a spreadsheet list of what to wear with what for you to fill in. eg what colour sand fabric accessories with what outfit. Blimey!

I wish I could put make up on as quickly and relaxed as she did then.

Yes, Catherine Zeta-Jones does have a look of a younger Joan.

I read that her skin is so good as she never lets the sun on her face. Always the huge sunhat and massive dark glasses.

That bone structure! She was and is a very beautiful woman, I always thought she was more beautiful than Elizabeth Taylor though that may be controversial. As for her blusher, well it’s better than the awful contouring with slug eyebrows that’s so popular now, she is high octane glamour our Joanie. I have high hopes that Elizabeth Hurley will carry the glamour baton when she is no longer with us, I think Joan is her on screen mother in The Royals so Liz is learning from the best.

Loved watching that. More make-up for her light version than I have ever worn in my life. And done so easily. The way she just popped on the false eyelashes. Fabulous.

I still think that Elizabeth Taylor was far more beautiful, although Elizabeth with Joan's face shape would have been even more exquisite.

I loved this, thanks op! My mother was glamorous in the 80s and I used to sit and watch her do her hair and makeup. We'd drink coffee and chat. She did hers in a separate room with a linoleum floor that was hard to clean as a result of all the hairspray!
