Thermal leggings

I've just been for a walk and whilst my upper body and feet were toasty warm, my legs were absolutely freezing!!

Can anyone recommend any thermal leggings/long johns (not sure what the correct name is!) that are thin enough to be worn under jeans please? My thighs and bum are so cold currently!

Just bought the M&S heatgen plus thermal brushed leggings (£15) after recommendations on here. Lovely and warm and not too thick. here

People have also recommended the Uniqlo ones but I've not tried those.

Jocasta2018 · 09/01/2021 16:19

Currently very snug in heat-generating leggings from John Lewis.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 09/01/2021 16:20

There are some on sale on the Uniqlo website. Can’t say whether they’re any good because I only ordered mine yesterday.

I have two pairs of the m & s Heatgen. Love them

Nacreous · 10/01/2021 06:27

I have some thin m and s heat gen that are pretty good for under jeans :)

Providora · 10/01/2021 06:31

Uniqlo Ultra Warm are amazing.

shouldistop · 10/01/2021 07:10

I second M&S ones, they also do a long sleeved top.
I'm spending a lot of time outside with my 4yo atm and it's been down to -6.

I would seek out Merino thermals within your price point.

I have some from Mountain Warehouse and they are thin but warm due to the Merino wool. Mountain Warehouse frequently have sales and discount codes so you should be able to get a good price there. However, a lot of brands have their own Merino thermal range so check out reviews or stick with a brand you feel good with.

LaCerbiatta · 10/01/2021 13:03

Under jeans you can just wear tights, no need for thermal longjohns!

BraeburnPlace · 10/01/2021 13:21

I sometimes just wear my normal leggings under my trousers.

I also have a pair of double lined walking trousers from mountain warehouse which are great. A layer of leggings under these works so well.

hellswelshy · 10/01/2021 16:55

I got some from Primark which are great, but obviously doesn't help you at the moment Blush

fiorentina · 10/01/2021 16:57

Uniqlo heattech are great

user1471441632 · 10/01/2021 17:17

I use thermal leggings from home bargains cheap but effective 😁

NannyR · 10/01/2021 17:21

I wear tights under jeans too, on very cold days - would be worth trying before splashing out on thermals.

Fozzleyplum · 10/01/2021 17:26

I have recently bought some fleece lined leggings to wear for walking. They are very warm, but probably too thick to wear under jeans (and you wodn't need to!)

bellagogosdead · 10/01/2021 17:31

Sainsburys thermals are great, a bit cheaper than the m& s.

Fiddlersgreen · 10/01/2021 17:33

I wear M&S heat gen tights under my jeans for when watching my kids play football on freezing cold days.
At least I used to before covid

Cherrypie32 · 10/01/2021 17:42

To be sure, M&S Heat gen leggings aren’t thermal underwear? They are an actual legging you can wear out?

bellagogosdead · 10/01/2021 17:56

I wouldn't wear m&s heatgen outside, they are rather thin, they basically are thermal underwear.

Cherrypie32 · 10/01/2021 18:04

Ah, ok, I read the original post wrong. I’ve been looking at Nike thermal leggings which are to be worn alone, not under. Wondered if M&S were going to be a cheaper alternative

FinallyHere · 10/01/2021 18:11

Another vote for M& S heatgen plus.

I wear them under my favourite summer trousers, makes them comfortable all year round.

dottiedodah · 10/01/2021 18:28

M and S thermal leggings are fine with me and very easy to wash and dry .About £20 .00 or so

I like the sound of fleece lined leggings! Can you tell me where you bought them from please?
MidnightHangingTree · 10/01/2021 21:01

Thanks all, I've ordered a pair of the M&S heatgen ones! Hopefully they do the trick.

Jeans are not the best for very cold days and long walks.
Fleece lined leggings and boots are great or looser trousers and thermals underneath are much warmer plus thick socks and thermal liners in shoes - if you have normal shoes or trainers
