Every winter my lips suffer. I think partly it's some lipsticks too (Clinique with the primer seems an issue).

So far, I've tried Burts Bees (Honey), Ren, L'Occitaine, Nuxe, Lanowhatever it's called - and my lips are still dry and seem worse after using some of the above- they sting a bit after application.

I don't care if it costs £1 or £15 but I need help!

I want something I can buy online please (J Lewis) or supermarket, ideally. tinted would be good too.

Another one for Too Faced Hangover Pillow Balm lip treatment. I’ve recently found it and it’s transformed my extremely dry lips. Looks nice on too.

I really enjoyed listening to this. I understand what she was saying about petrolatum and fragrances. It didn't clarify one thing though - what about lip balms that are beeswax, honey, vegetable oil (castor/cocoa seed/almond etc), Vitamin E and other ingredients like these. ANy thoughts?
Gunpowder · 07/01/2021 08:32

I have been wondering the same thing withmycoffee I don’t remember Nadine saying and I can’t see anything elsewhere which says those ingredients are irritating. I suppose a beeswax lip-salve would be fine unless it contains menthol or something?

FippertyGibbett · 07/01/2021 08:35

Liz Earle.

KaptainKaveman · 07/01/2021 08:41

Another vote for carmex in a pot.

ememem84 · 07/01/2021 08:45

my go to is carmel in a pot.

also increase your water intake- i tend to find that my lips are dry when i'm not drinking enough.

CrystalMaisie · 07/01/2021 08:48

What @Gunpowder says 👍 osmosis means most will dehydrate your lips further.
Drink more water. Lips indicate our hydration.

PawPawNoodle · 07/01/2021 08:51

Another vote for the Blistex Relief Cream, its very good but I only use it when in dire need as it's medicated as mentioned above.

The NARS lip balms are excellent but pricey-ish (£20ish I think). Even more pricey Hourglass Lip Oil (£45) which is sublime and works best as an overnight treatment.

squishee · 07/01/2021 09:25

I still can't decide which one to get based on the last thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/3997747-best-lip-balm

I want to avoid (grudgingly) the ones in jars / pots, although I always find them way better, because hands - face (= lips!) - space.

Justcashnosweets · 07/01/2021 10:44

O'Keefe's is brilliant. My daughter had horrendous chapped lips and this stuff sorted them out in 24 hours.

Justcashnosweets · 07/01/2021 10:45

Ah and Carmex in the pot!

Whenwillow · 07/01/2021 10:45

I use vaseline. Anything else dries and cracks my lips. I use the tiniest amount always after cleaning my teeth.

cannaethink · 07/01/2021 13:08

Palmers cocoa butter lip balm works an absolute treat for me in the winter.

Nefbachmorf · 07/01/2021 13:12

Vaseline works better for me than anything else.
Carmex in the pot second best.
For the last year or so I've only used Vaseline and most days now only need one application a day, usually as part of my evening skincare routine. It helped me to wean myself off using balm throughout the day.

backinthebox · 07/01/2021 13:23

I’ve often wondered who uses all these different lip balms. Here you all are! Vaseline, and many other expensive brands too, make my lips itch like mad. The only one that works for me is Carmex in a pot. I never go anywhere without it.

Redruby2020 · 07/01/2021 13:51

@minipie I tried this, was going to return it as they allow you to do so, but had lost or thrown receipt out. It didn't make my lips feel good, almost dry again.

Redruby2020 · 07/01/2021 13:59

@LovelyLips So glad to come across your post, as I was recently thinking about posting a similar question, I have tried many lip balms or pots of things over the years, and am still on the look out for something that will suit my needs. I use Vaseline tins mostly and for colour the rose one, as I bought the other one which was called something like 'a hint of red' and it didn't agree with me. I like you not only find that products cause more dryness but I also get irritation, especially from those that have an SPF in them, this is because of certain ingredients that are used to protect from the sun, and I did read online that there are a few more preferable sun protection ingredients that can help with that problem, but I have not been able to find something with those in, a lot of what is on the market are all the same thing.

The other lip balm I had which wasn't too bad was N07 in a stick and they do tinted ones, I had the Coral which was nice and I had one or two compliments on it.

BeaLola · 08/01/2021 08:43

Jo Malone Vitamin E lip balm - pricey but one tube lasts ages and it works

Strawberrycreamsundae · 08/01/2021 08:52

The original Lipsyl. Absolutely nothing beats it (67 years of experience here!)
You don’t need anything with flavours/ additives/ gimmicks, it’s cheap and totally effective.

IntermittentParps · 08/01/2021 09:48

I like Vaseline personally, the aloe or cocoa butter ones. I don't know about using them during the day as they're quite heavy, but I just slather them on at night.

NaughtyNell · 09/01/2021 07:27

I have Carnex in a tube it's very good.

imnot · 09/01/2021 21:36

I agree about old style lypsil, my lips have not been the same since it was discontinued, the replacement is nowhere close. I have had some success with Amilab (French I think) although it is not perfect.

LightOfAThousandStars · 11/01/2021 22:02

I use Blistex in the blue tub, works well and doesn't feel too thick on the lips. I've tried both the Nuxe in tub and tube, Lanisoh, Vaseline, Burts Bees, Eos, Paw Paw but nothing is as good. As someone else said above though something that works for one person may not work for the next. Try a few out and see how you get on.

Cluckycluck · 11/01/2021 22:05

Lanolips is without a doubt the best I have tried. Thick and sticky so I only wear it at night but it is so good I don't ever need a day time one

Earlybird00 · 11/01/2021 22:09

Have used blistex cream for years and it gives immediate relief and repair to cracked dry lips
