Is it worth spending money on slippers?

And if so, what do you recommend? I usually buy several pairs a year, cheap ones from Asda/Primark/Amazon, wherever is most convenient at the time, replacing them when they start falling apart, which is usually after a couple of months. And now I'm at home more, they're getting worn more, and wearing out quicker. Wondering whether spending more would be better in the long run. What I want: soft, not too frumpy looking, slippers that are clearly slippers and not shoes, and that don't fall apart. What I don't want: open toe, frumpy, stiff soles, feeling like I'm wearing shoes.

Any recommendations? Let's keep budget flexible at the moment. Thank you!

I had some ugg slippers for Christmas and they are amazing, really comfortable and warm without making my feet too hot. Obviously I've only had them just over a week, but I had them after a friend recommended them, she's had hers for a year and they're still going strong.

Spied · 04/01/2021 10:53

I've found Next slippers last well.

Peridot1 · 04/01/2021 10:55

I get plantar fasciitis so need supportive slippers and I find Fitflop slippers good. Very supportive and last me at least a year.

TheFlis12345 · 04/01/2021 10:57

I have Barbour ‘Sadie’ slippers. They are really comfy and cosy but also incredibly hard wearing, I have worn mine constantly for 2 years and they are still in great condition.

TwirlingTwizzler · 04/01/2021 10:57

Sheepskin slippers, don't have to be Ugg, are brilliant. I've had a pair for 3 years now and they keep my feet so warm and the non slip soles are great for a clumsy oaf like me.

I’ve had some Birkenstock Boston felt clogs for 5 years and they are still as good as new- I don’t wear them outside at all just as slippers.

Yip. Sheepskin slippers are so cosy and warm. It don't matter where I buy normal slippers they fall apart very quickly. Recent ones have been Next they were hanging together and out in the bin as soon as I got my new sheepskin ones. Before that it was Debenhams ones they were crap too.

I wouldnt spend a lot but sounds like it is time to step up a price bracket. I’ve some White Stuff fake fur lined slipper boots on the go for 6 months a year over 5 years and they are only just starting to go at the sole. So may be worth a look there.

Kndg · 04/01/2021 11:01

Just to second Fitflop slippers. I have 2 pairs of them, think the style is called Chrissie. Highly recommended!

The best slippers I’ve ever had were bought for me from Australia, called Jumbuck. I had them for about 4 years. I can’t seem to find them here in the UK though.

SpaceOp · 04/01/2021 11:02

You don't have to spend a fortune, but yes, buying decent slippers is worth it. I've got some from Bedroom Athletics which I've had for a while now and are still going strong and are super comfy. The White Company ones are great too, but pricier. I've see lots of people recommend White Stuff slippers.

Ugg slippers are very popular and I am definitely going to look at them in due course.

RunnerDown · 04/01/2021 11:03

I buy Skechers boots as my slippers. They are comfortable and warm and last ages. If I need to nip outside to the garden briefly I don’t have to change them .

MoltonSilver · 04/01/2021 11:03

Just sheepskin.

TheScurrilousFunge · 04/01/2021 11:08

I've got some Moshulu ones which are lovely but do smell. I also have a ten year old pair of Ugg boots that I wear when it's really cold (some of the fluff wore off inside the heel so I don't like wearing them to walk far). I do find that you get what you pay for.

WillowintheUK · 04/01/2021 11:15

I’ve got Moshulu too (mine don’t smell - PP must just be unlucky!) which I got at start of COVID, they’re still going strong and I’ll buy them again when I need new. Generally get M&S though, and they’ve usually lasted well. Can’t be bothered with cheap slippers with no support.

Onedropbeat · 04/01/2021 11:33

Yes my Celtic and co ones are amazing
I wear them all year round

bubblesforlife · 04/01/2021 11:34

I’ve had next slippers (that look like the ugg ones)
And Ugg ones..... I rate both highly.
I would probably buy next ones as they are much cheaper and I felt that he’s a little more support.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 04/01/2021 11:39

Another vote for sheepskin. I used to buy Emu but Aldi versions are just as good and only £14.99

niceupthedance · 04/01/2021 11:41

Sheepskin can get sweaty and smelly
I have wool slippers from Toast which are none of the above and very warm and comfy, £70 is good value since I'm wearing them 90% of the time!

AuntieMarys · 04/01/2021 11:43

I have Celtic and Co slipper boots. Had them 2 years cost £90 less 15% discount.
Still going strong and they are worn every day

Twobrews · 04/01/2021 11:46

I wear ugg boots. Not the slippers the boots with an outdoor sole. I get about 4/5 years wear from them although I don't wear them much in summer.
My first couple of pairs were from M&M direct who seem to be much cheaper than anywhere else if you don't mind the colour

AlwaysLatte · 04/01/2021 11:46

Yes! I love my Skechers ones. Very machine washable too.

Is it worth spending money on slippers?
itbemay1 · 04/01/2021 11:47

I got some next ones, Normally buy primark but these are amazing. So warm and suede so hopefully will last.

Barmbraic · 04/01/2021 12:16

Sheepskin with a proper sole. I got a pair of ugg-alikes from a seller on etsy and really like them. They are warm and comfortable and I can go out to the bins or clothesline without worrying about them getting ruined.

whataboutbob · 04/01/2021 12:27

Drapers of Glastonbury. Sheepskin, made in England, like sending your feet on a holiday

Aquicknamechange2019 · 04/01/2021 12:58

I got a lovely pair of sheepskin slippers for Christmas from John Lewis -£49 I think they were. absolutely amazing and so comfortable!
