Socks. Warm, comfortable socks

My feet are usually freezing in winter and I've tried all sorts and still struggle to find perfect socks.

I need:
Cosy and warm
Not too bulky or loose. I have hand knitted woollen socks that slide off my feet.
Not itchy
Not anything that makes my feet feel clammy but still cold!

I don't mind splashing out but they would have to come with a recommendation.

I wear ski socks. Any half decent brand will do. They are calf-high and designed not to slip down.

hawleybits · 30/12/2020 23:18

I have had ski socks in the past but find them a bit too long and bulky under jeans.
I should have mentioned this in my op.
I am impossible to please in the sock dept!

Bam bamboo socks - they sent me a sample a couple of years ago (for reasons I will never know!!) and I have never looked back, they are amazing. Warm, soft - I feel like my feet are being hugged. I cannot recommend them enough I love them Grin.

Crapbuttrue · 30/12/2020 23:28

Stance socks. Also bought some Nordic Socks this year which I'm enjoying wearing.

APurpleSquirrel · 30/12/2020 23:31

Solmate Socks - odd colours but really warm. Don't fall off my feet.

SwedishEdith · 30/12/2020 23:32

Uniqlo Heattech ones. I resisted for ages as not natural fibres. But they keep my permanently cold feet warm.

Labobo · 30/12/2020 23:33

I wear hiking socks nearly every day in winter. Bridgedale do really soft warm ones.

GlamGiraffe · 30/12/2020 23:36

I bought my son Nordic Socks. He says they are the best socks ever. They come in mens and womens.

Lampan · 30/12/2020 23:37

I also like Uniqlo Heattech, and I love merino wool socks.
Nordic Socks get poor reviews on Trustpilot so I would steer clear, I don’t know what the socks are like but on their website I couldn’t find any info on what they are made of or even if they are actually from the Nordic countries.

FatGirlShrinking · 30/12/2020 23:37

M&S knee high thermal socks, they are really soft and thin but warm.

I sometimes put a pair of trainer socks on over the top if I'm wearing wellies or going out for a long cold walk just to give an extra boost.

MeringueCloud · 30/12/2020 23:39

MandS thermal socks.

DotBall · 30/12/2020 23:39

Bridgedale merino socks. Various thicknesses and lengths available to suit.

WishingHopingThinkingPraying · 30/12/2020 23:40

Cashmere socks from ebay

Aramox · 30/12/2020 23:41

Alpaca.

SwedishEdith · 30/12/2020 23:43

The Nordic socks look lovely but I like longer ones for winter - no gaps.

Ifwemakeitthroughdecember · 30/12/2020 23:45

I second Uniqlo heatech ones.

Puffalicious · 30/12/2020 23:48

Another vote for Bridgedale and bamboo socks in general- BAM are excellent, but TKMaxx regularly do other brands that are very good too. I presently have on Glenmuir (a golf brand) you get in TKs and Sock Shop ( by the by Sock Shop's men's bamboo boxers are amazing and half the price of BAM if of interest to anyone: absolute favourites of DH and 2 teen DC).

lavenderlove · 30/12/2020 23:48

Boux avenue cosy socks are the softest and warmest things ever! They feel like my dogs ears

FusionChefGeoff · 30/12/2020 23:49

I'm a sock snob too hoping for recommendations! The heat tech / cashmere / merino ones are too fine for me - I'm after something solid and more like a leg warmer style, any thoughts??

OneMoreForExtra · 30/12/2020 23:49

Seconding hiking socks. They don't come up too high, and the support weave hugs your feet, they don't slop about and they're warm. I have about 5 pairs and wear them on rotation as slippers for 8 months of the year.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/12/2020 23:52

Bridgedale, specifically the comfort merino ones. For even more warmth wear with a base layer sock.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 30/12/2020 23:52

I really like thought socks, they feel soft and cosy but not too thick.

DH bought me some bamboo socks for my birthday (no need to LTB, I asked for socks amongst other things). I absolutely hate wearing socks generally as I find them restrictive and uncomfortable. The bamboo socks are warm and soft, not too thick or tight - I don't feel compelled to immediately rip them off my feet the moment I get home, so they must be ok! Mine are from The Sock Shop.

TableNiner · 30/12/2020 23:57

I second Thought socks

AlannaOfTrebond · 31/12/2020 00:04

Another Bridgedale fan. I have lots of different styles from them, knee high, thick hikers and light summer hikers to name a few.

If I'm after something a bit less utilitarian looking but still merino, I love Vulpine, Findra and Isobaa (which can nearly always be found at a discount from Sport Pursuit - my new favourite are their merino blend moss stitch, so light, soft and warm).

Basically merino is my answer to everything.
