Hello - let's hope we get a bit more glamour this year and fingers crossed for some tiara watching....

If I was having a baby girl now I'd call her Azalea, it's an unusual floral name.

Maireas · 10/03/2021 07:35

That is a lovely name. I like all the suggestions on here. Especially Tracy! Grin - If you're reading, Meghan, we hope we've inspired you! Wink

LIke a sad person I looked up Meghan's grandparents' names and her paternal grandmother's name was Doris. I liked how that is similar to Doria and would like to throw this old-fashioned name into the ring, at least as a middle name. ;) Doria's mother was Jeanette and her mother was Netty. I quite like that matched with Archie!

Daisy would be a good and royal name wouldn't it? Not sure how I feel about Tracy - I'm a bit too close to the 90s Grin but hey, why not! It's very English isn't it? Not American. Am I wrong?

Maireas · 10/03/2021 08:30

Great research, @banivani! I think Doris is having a renaissance - David Tennant's daughter has that name. I suspect Tracy won't be popular for a while. Although it was popularised by the Grace Kelly character in High Society.

banivani · 10/03/2021 08:51

See, I knew my cinematic knowledge was lacking. I'll concede my wrongness and maybe Tracy is due a comeback in the States, so who knows!

Generally speaking it seems to me that the trend, not only among the young royals of Europe but a bit more generally, is to move away from repeating family first names every generation and instead use those family names as middle names. So anything connected to close family members will be "in honour of" and a middle name.

Which in the long run will make history an easier subject. Everyone will be "something the first". Wink

I just feel the need to say how much I value this thread and how, in spite of the craziness intensity of royal media coverage these last few days, not a single poster has come on this thread to make unkind comments on either side of the debate. It's a real tribute to our founder QueenoftheAndals and her insistence that we focus on the clothes and not critiquing personalities. Frankly I think it's positively heroic in the current social media climate!

Back to fashions! And names! Another vote for Tracy! Grin

Three cheers for QueenOfTheAndals!

Tracy
Tracey
Tracie

My SIL is pregnant with a girl and already has an Archie. She's not told us what names they have in mind but she's hoping Meghan and Harry don't choose it, I'll check with her whether Tracy is on the list Grin

I'll second that @MotherofPearl. Flowers

This is my 'go to' thread for some really interesting bits of historical information and discussion of clothes. I don't post often but I love to read what others are thinking and particularly like the discussion/insight around the 'Non-UK' royals.

I do hope that there won't be a Katie Price style attempt to combine the names of the two mothers to create a Doriana (or even worse a Dioria Shock)

latedecember1963 · 10/03/2021 12:54

I agree, MotherofPearl!
I like the Tracey version. I also like Doris. There's a Doris in my church congregation in her 90s who's fabulous. She'd love the idea of her name becoming fashionable again. We also have an Alma which is also due a comeback.

SenecaFallsRedux · 10/03/2021 14:05

I agree that this is the "nice" thread about royals on MN. I don't post very often these days but I do check this thread at least a few times a week to catch up.

I don't think they'll go with Daisy. The only Daisys I know are dogs. Very nice dogs, but I think it has become primarily a pet's name in the US. I do know quite a few Tracys, but none under the age of 40.

There are still lots of surnames as first names in the US, even (maybe even especially) for girls. But of course, only a few work really well. Markle doesn't, but Spencer? Possibly. Smile

MotherofPearl · 10/03/2021 14:13

I think that's a good call, Seneca. I know a girl called Spencer - she's Canadian, and 4! It's a good fit with Archie too.

Twisique · 10/03/2021 17:54

If Zara's baby is a boy I think Kit would be nice, they seem to like short names.

I think Megan and Harry might stick to D names, maybe Dora or Dorothy (Dotty)? The reason I suggested Daisy is because they named Archie Harrison after Harry and Daisy is short for Margaret as is Meg.

paradyning · 10/03/2021 18:12

Oh I love Kit too. Is it short for Christopher? Or another name.

Saw a retrospective of Caroline of Hanover on Vogue Twitter before. Some interesting sunnies on display!

Maireas · 10/03/2021 20:47

Thanks, paradyning - that's a great retrospective!! Caroline and Grace (and now Charlotte) were always so stylish.
Got to love the 80s Martina!!

Great retrospective of Princess Caroline. I really love this photo.

Eaumyword · 10/03/2021 22:11

Great photo, Caroline's bone structure is pure Grace Kelly in that photo. She just oozes glamour here.

paradyning · 10/03/2021 22:50

Wonder what tiara that is

paradyning · 10/03/2021 22:55

Have been trying to answer my own question. But. Look at the bling!

MotherofPearl · 10/03/2021 23:20

I can't find the tiara either paradyning, though I've just enjoyed trawling through those tiara photos.

Bring back glamour dammit! I'm so sick of casual wear and underwhelming zoom outfits!

🤩😍 so much to love

MaudTheInvincible · 11/03/2021 11:47

Kate and William out and about today. Visiting a school in East London. Rather a violent shade of pink for my taste but good trousers and silhouette.

I love that pink! It might have worked better with a black top, black trouser combo and then that gorgeous pink coat. Thing is, if she'd gone inside for an engagement, she'd have just looked monochrome black.

RockaLock · 11/03/2021 13:07

I like the outfit today.

I think it's a Boden jumper - nice to see her supporting a British brand again!

paradyning · 11/03/2021 13:17

What colour are the trousers? Plum?
