The absolute best jeans...

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 23/12/2020 17:08

I've noticed people saying that as they live in jeans they invest in the best expensive ones, which sounds very sensible.

I also live in jeans, including at work (still working at work, not a work from home profession!).

What are the best jeans though?

I'm an apple shape, 5 ft 6, "regular" leg, currently size 16 but have lost a lot of weight and aiming to keep going until I'm a comfortable 12/14 (I know from experience that's realistic and maintainable, I've never maintained anything smaller except while living alone and barely eating, or in my student/ backpacking days!)

Once I reach a 12/14 I'm very happy to invest a bit of money in 3-4 pairs of really good jeans, but not sure where to start looking...

It depends on your shape but 7 for all mankind I find generally flattering. Also live in them at work.

Yawningyawning · 23/12/2020 17:17

I got some new ones from Next that are so comfortable

PaulHollywoodsLowHangingFruit · 23/12/2020 17:18

Apple here- size 14- and it is Next lift slim and shape jeans that win hands down for me. They are so comfortable and pull you in without the muffin as they are high-waisted. Keep their shape too - so no bag arse and knees situation. Minimum hoikage required throughout the day.

If it is jeggings you are after- New Look Emilee 'lift and shape' jeggings are brilliant.

PaulHollywoodsLowHangingFruit · 23/12/2020 17:20

Forgot to add - Next ones in this cut are true to size. Same with New Look

Treeerex · 23/12/2020 17:22

What's your budget OP? That will really be the deciding factor.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 23/12/2020 17:25

I prefer actual jeans to jeggings as I need keys and phone in my pockets at work, which pulls jegging type things downwards! Also like the option of a belt. Lots of going up and down stairs, often carrying things, so hoiking is inconvienient!

Next is an affordable price point - would be great if those are "the" jeans for a 14 ish apple! Will google 7 for all mankind as I haven't heard of them.

I saw someone on another thread mention Salsa jeans but the site was only in portugese - not sure whether people buy them in highstreet stores or whether I was missing something!

Thank you!

Treeerex for really good, quality jeans that will last years and be worn in rotation most days, and inspire me to keep fitting into them Blush I honestly don't mind what they cost, within reason. Up to 150€ perhaps? But if the perfect jeans are 160€ per pair that's ok too...

Doesn't mean I have to spend lots - as I lose weight I've been buying George at Asda and uniqlo... but some really good staples in my realistic "permanent" size would motivate me not to put weight back on, so there's an argument for avoiding dispisable fashion!

My employer has been quite generous with various one off payments to reward us for stepping into the breach and often doing very long extra shifts solo at short notice etc during the pandemic so I have a bit of money put to the side over and above normal rainy day savings.

Ah yes I see - Ive just looked up 7forall mankind and that's more 250€ a pair than 150€. They'd have to be bloody incredible for that price! I do live in jeans, so its not completely out of the question - but I'd wantbto try them on and be swept off my feet 😁. There does seem to be a store in our nearest city, so I could go and try some on in a couple of months...

Levi's would always be my preferred choice

whataboutbob · 23/12/2020 17:59

Are you in Ireland OP?
I must admit I don’t know what’s available out there.
Mark’s and Spencer’s can do decent jeans but you have to try on- it’s quite variable. Might be a good option until your weight has settled.
My absolute faves are Paige jeans (£££). Also best if you try on. You can get some good deals on eBay but beware of fakes- an ad with loads of jeans in all sizes and only using stock photos is to be treated with suspicion.

goldielockdown2 · 23/12/2020 19:34

Monki mom jeans are amazing

Sasuma · 23/12/2020 20:04

I have several pairs of J Brand jeans, which are my favourite. Also Citizens of Humanity, 7 for all mankind and Slvrlake.

If you’re looking to spend €150 ish, have a look at the Outnet where you can get these types of brands for around €100-150.

ButtonMeUpButtercup · 23/12/2020 20:16

J Brand or Levis for me.

UncleBunclesHouse · 23/12/2020 20:20

Seven for all Mankind - they are pricey but I hate wearing anything else now, look for sales and designer discounters

I always used to buy 7 for all mankind - try brand alley for discounts - but then saw Abercrombie and Fitch recommended on here. So comfy and flattering - I absolutely live in them.

FionaMacCool · 23/12/2020 20:33

Salsa jeans- I baulked at the price tag but DSis kept raving about hers.
Bought a pair 2 years ago- still look like new, and are v comfortable.

If you are in RoI, Avoca do them (you could order online) and I think Arnotts do them, also.

FlappingPancakes · 23/12/2020 20:35

I'm an apple and wear high waisted Levi's and they look great I think

Bought a cheaper pair from m and s to walk the dog in and I literally look like I've tried to stuff myself into a sausage skin

It is amazing what a well fitting pair of jeans does for you!

IDontMindMarmite · 23/12/2020 20:50

Levi's, 7 for all mankind (catch their sales, they've good value) and DL 1961.

Retailqueenie · 23/12/2020 22:06

Just discovered Tommy Hilfiger bi stretch skinny jeans - omg - they’re amazing... so much stretch and never sag or go loose. Make me look a size smaller.. (in my head), found 2 pairs on eBay for £30.. rrp £100.. best purchase this year by far..

LunaNorth · 23/12/2020 22:11

Salsa jeans are on ASOS.

LunaNorth · 23/12/2020 22:12

They’re on sale, too.

Verite1 · 23/12/2020 22:29

MiH are the best and most flattering jeans I have ever bought. Have 3/4 pairs.

LunaNorth · 23/12/2020 22:30

I love MiH.

LittleMissBrainy · 23/12/2020 22:33

I'm similar size and shape to you Op and can confirm J Brand are ace. Also check out Amazing Woman Jeans.
