The absolute best jeans...

I've noticed people saying that as they live in jeans they invest in the best expensive ones, which sounds very sensible.

I also live in jeans, including at work (still working at work, not a work from home profession!).

What are the best jeans though?

I'm an apple shape, 5 ft 6, "regular" leg, currently size 16 but have lost a lot of weight and aiming to keep going until I'm a comfortable 12/14 (I know from experience that's realistic and maintainable, I've never maintained anything smaller except while living alone and barely eating, or in my student/ backpacking days!)

Once I reach a 12/14 I'm very happy to invest a bit of money in 3-4 pairs of really good jeans, but not sure where to start looking...

Twice I've found the perfect jeans in White Stuff of all places. They use such soft denim and the cut is flattering - holds you in but no muffin top - cut for women. They stopped doing the first style and I don't usually shop there so tried loads of other places, then went in this year as they had a massive sale on and came out with another perfect pair. So comfortable, I live in them. Normally I avoid jeans as they dig in if you work all day at a desk.

Don’t do what I did

I bought a fab pair of low waisted flared 7Formenkind jeans around 2008, just months before they became unbearably naff and everyone had changed to skinny jeans Grin

What a waste of money that was. The one time I splashed out on jeans

So buy a fashion forward style please Wink

I have tried all sorts of jeans from cheap through to expensive and I always come back to top shop Jamies. They just really work for me. Jeans are such an individual thing what works for one might not work for another.

I wear stretch jeggings all the time but was nostalgic for proper jeans. It's so hard to get a good fit for a mature woman but I struck lucky with these Welsh jeans from Hiut (made in Cardigan, which had a big jeans factory factory fso lots of skilled workers). This style based on men's jeans really works for my apple shape and they are amazing quality. More than I'd usually spend but worth it. I found the size guide perfectly accurate. hiutdenim.co.uk/collections/womens/products/coda

Different shape so maybe no use, but my preferred jeans are Levi’s, or Whistles. I do also have a Monki pair I really like.

I’m a hippy size 10 with a small waist, 5ft 6.

Wacadu · 23/12/2020 23:30

I got some from Stitch Fix. £55 and I've never worn jeans like them.

thetrees · 24/12/2020 07:38

Salsa jeans are really good. I'd forgotten about then but they are super flattering - so speaks a fellow apple.

Thankssomuch · 24/12/2020 07:57

I’ve had many pairs of jeans over the years but am currently loving my Lee Carol’s (£120).

Suzi888 · 24/12/2020 07:59

7 for all mankind were my favourites. Wore them to death, washed regularly and they lasted for ages.

MunsteadWood · 24/12/2020 08:31

I buy all my jeans from Topshop. Have a few times in the past bought more expensive brands to try (Levi's etc) but always end up going back to the Topshop ones. My current favourite are the Editor style, but Mom jeans, straight leg and Jamie skinnies are all brilliant.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/12/2020 08:40

My three favourite pairs are:
Some M&S Autograph black skinnies with a high waist. Unfortunately they're really faded now.
Levis straight leg grey, which I wear rolled up
Some straight sale 7 For All Mankinds in mid blue, with a roll up

FindHungrySamurai · 24/12/2020 08:43

I’ve got a pair of Salsa jeans and like a pp with her 7FAMs they are now hopelessly dated so I can’t wear them any more. Fortunately I got them at the freakishly low price of 25 quid in a sale. They were good while they lasted though.

Paige jeans are great. Unfortunately I passed my pair of Paige skinnies which I bought myself as a special treat at the old Selfridges Jeans Studio onto my DD, who loved them but has now worn a hole in them and is now making puppy dog eyes at me in search of a new pair (I’m holding strong).

Charity shops are often not bad for higher end denim if you have a good local one and just dash in whenever you’re passing. DD has some great Citizens of Humanity from a chazza and my favourite Massimo Duttis are from Save the Children. I ran across two Paiges the other day in Help the Aged but they were one size two small for DD.

Find your Levi's shale and you'll be set for life. I'm a 721: high waisted skinny.

I also find Calvin Klein's very flattering, they tend to have more stretch. I would say though that the stretchier jeans just don't last as long as those with more denim, the material isn't as robust, so it's mainly about striking a balance

VivaVegas · 24/12/2020 10:51

Next lift, shape and slim.

So flattering and keep their shape. I have bought other jeans but for me none are as good as these.

Nc135 · 24/12/2020 10:57

J Brand and Paige. I wear jeans so much that cost per wear is amazing.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 24/12/2020 20:29

Thanks everyone, especially for the salsa jeans ASOS sale tip!

I'm going to start with the recommended Next pair and a Salsa jeans sale price pair (which makes them not much more than the Next ones) and see how they are. Ideally one or both are "the" jeans for me and I'll get a few more pairs in other colours, but if not then once I'm sure I'm maintaining a size I'll try some of the more expensive brands recommended in store or from the discounted websites suggested/ sales... I do think it'll be worth finding and investing in my perfect jeans in 2021!

@Labobo can you remember which style you bought from White Stuff? They have a few which look good. The boyfriend ones are on sale.
Betsy88 · 28/12/2020 15:17

@MunsteadWood what is the sizing like on Topshop’s Editor jeans? I really like Topshop jeans but have found their sizing a bit all over the shop.

ZippedyDooDa · 28/12/2020 15:19

My body only seems to fit correctly in GAP jeans.

RoxyTheDog · 12/05/2021 15:18

Bought a pair of Slim Fit Jeans in Asda which were on a rail at the front of the clothing section, which were slightly too small, loved the light wash and fade and the quality for £14.00 so went back and got the 32 waist - they are a fantastic fit, just the right length I love them - but have now realised they are men's - honestly check out the men's Jeans at Asda - fantastic quality and fit me great, really, I will be buying men's in future......

PeacheyPeach · 12/05/2021 16:42

Hi can I ask for those who have recommended Levi's would you say they are a true fit or do you need to size up or down?

lindyloo57 · 12/05/2021 18:30

I have two pairs of levis, but both slip down, one pair will only stay up with a belt which hate, I did size down as was recommended, I wear a ten in other shops, I brought a 26 and a 27 levi jeans but both slip down.

lindyloo57 · 12/05/2021 18:31
