How many lipsticks?

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 16/12/2020 18:52

I seem to have too many lipsticks, and really need to be using some up before I buy more. But then I see a new colour that I 'need'. Granted, I have been a bit more restrained during mask wearing, as no one apart from DH gets the benefit. Does anyone just have a few in different shades, then replace as needed? Please make me feel better. How many do you own? Grin

Over 200 I'd say. Most of them are Mac 🤦🏼‍♀️

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 18/12/2020 16:47

This is all really interesting! Those of you with 40+, do you mind telling me your system for keeping them in order? Do you have nudes one bag, reds another, or something? Btw, many of you have me believing I'm a pure amateur in the lipstick stakes Xmas Grin

I have a lot from one range, most are from the Maybelline Superstay matte range as they don't need reapplying and don't budge.

TheChosenTwo · 18/12/2020 17:48

Mine all live in one box in my makeup drawers, I tend to pick up anything because they’re all similar! Although I did have that good declutter this afternoon, I had 73 Shock - way more than I thought! Threw about 25 so down to roughly 50 and they are all just in one box.

Costacoffeeplease · 18/12/2020 19:54

I have a selection in my ‘current’ make up drawer and the rest are in another drawer with my mascara collection, currently have about 17 of those

HappyGirlNow · 18/12/2020 21:23

Probably 50 - 60, mainly Mac, Armani and Tom Ford, most of the shades and colours in most of the textures, from matte to sheer.. 💄

Sorry just noticed this, I have a dressing table with shallow wide drawers at the top, my lipsticks all are stored in these with the same brand/range put together eg Mac matte are all together, Armani Ecstasy Shine together..

Actually thinking about it I have way more than 60 😳

This is very similar to my dressing table

I have 3 of one colour- my everyday wear so one in my handbag, one in the car and one in my handbag. Then, 6 others which were impulse buys that I may never finish.

I tend to stick to No7 and Maybelline/Loreal. I’ve ventured into Bobbi Brown but frankly, not impressed with quality for the price.

Chickydoo · 18/12/2020 21:45

I have 2 favourites, then maybe 3 or 4 others & 2 or 3 lip glosses.
My favourites are Estée Lauder.
I thought I had quite a lot!

TheRealBoswell · 19/12/2020 05:10

I have three matte lipsticks - a ruby red, a pink nude and a pinkish-brown nude lipstick. I’m curious how people amass over 5 because the colours start looking the same to me Blush. Those who have a lot of lipsticks, are they all new or are some old or repeats etc? I’d love to expand my make up collection.

LopsidedWombat · 19/12/2020 05:17

To all you lipstick fiends, do you have very white teeth? I'd love to wear lipstick but I feel they just make my teeth look horrid. So my answer is zero!

AliciafromGalicia · 19/12/2020 05:46

LopsidedWombat - my teeth aren't particularly white, no, partly due to medication I've taken in the past they are a little on the yellow side despite a few rounds of whitening over the years. But some lipstick colours make them look whiter (and others yellower). You just have to experiment although generally orangey colours make them look yellower (annoyingly as they suit my skin tone best!). I've found pinks, browns and some shades of red can make my teeth look whiter though!

AliciafromGalicia · 19/12/2020 05:47

TheRealBoswell - so may shades look much the same in the shop but when you put them on they look really different to others. Small differences really show up on your face.

cjpark · 19/12/2020 07:56

I probably only have about 6! Replace them when they are used and buy good quality, Tom Ford, Mac or Dior. I have a classic red, deep red, a coral for summer/spring, high shine nude, natural nude, and a plum nude.

YouWereRight · 19/12/2020 08:45

Maybe about 6, non of them I feel really suit me though.

MotherofPearl · 19/12/2020 11:07

I'm always on the quest for the perfect dark matte red and have loads of lipsticks but few that I feel are quite right. I do love lipstick though, so am finding masks a real bore (though obviously necessary).

Lucked · 19/12/2020 16:39

I just counted 105!

but there are probably a few hiding in bags and drawers so the reality will be a few more.

How would I go about checking how the lipstick looks on my face? I’d like to buy some new lipsticks but I don’t know how it will look on me.
AliciafromGalicia · 20/12/2020 12:17

TheRealBoswell - you just have to buy them unfortunately. I've always thought there should be some requirement for cosmetics manufacturers to sell trial size products or palettes for environmental reasons as I'm sure this is an industry that produces a vast amount of waste, given you mostly have to just keep buying full price products until you find what works for you and most people take a while to find the right shades and colours. You can of course do the trialling with cheap brands and then if the quality isn't good enough (and it sometimes is excellent despite the price tag), go along with a colour you like and know suits you and try out testers on your hand along side it.

4 Xmas Smile

EleanorRigbyWasReal · 20/12/2020 14:15

@AliciafromGalicia... Benefit do minis 😊

AliciafromGalicia · 20/12/2020 19:58

Thanks Eleanor, good to know!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 21/12/2020 09:18

Thanks for all this folks. Is it just me that thinks Snack is potentially missing a business opportunity showing people how to streamline their lipstick wardrobe?! Xmas Grin. Seriously though, how do you do it Snack?

Snackasaurus · 21/12/2020 12:16

@SpongeBobJudgeyPants I've always been really self conscious that lipsticks make my teeth look yellow so I rarely spend money on them in case they don't suit me.

About 5 years ago, I got a Ted Baker red lipstick in a gift set that I only wear for nights out. I very rarely go out on the piss (even pre covid times Xmas Grin) so that's still got some life in it! It's too much for day to day use in my opinion Smile

About three years ago, I went to Body Shop and got them to choose me two lipsticks. One is a lovely colour but very drying on the lips so I rarely use it and the other one is just hideous! 😂

My latest one is a NYX one and I LOVE it! I wear it a lot and always feel fabulous even though nobody but DH sees it under the mask Xmas Grin

I'm aware I sound like a tight arse Grin

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 21/12/2020 14:10

That sounds vair sensible! Do you mind me asking what colour(s) apart from the red, don't make your teeth look less white? TIA.
