What are your opinions of this dress and where would you wear it?

Yes I would 🌺

BabyGirlNumber2 · 15/12/2020 18:40

It’s nice but very formal. Almost black tie. Would maybe be ok for a winter wedding if the dress code was quite formal or for an evening do.

BlueThistles · 15/12/2020 18:42

Dinner party... Christmas party.. lots of things 🌺

Suzie11111 · 15/12/2020 18:44

Thank you for replies! I’m very shy and reserved and don’t usually dress up in girly clothes! I’m also worried it looks formal. I don’t go to black tie events so where else can I wear it?

A formal event such as a banquet or, if I went cruising, on a formal night.

Suzie11111 · 15/12/2020 18:44

Can I wear maybe for Xmas dinner at home or will it look too much?!

It's very pretty, but it is a formal dress for a formal event. Possibly a bridesmaid dress for a certain kind of wedding. Otherwise, if you don't go to those sort of events, I don't think you really need this dress.

SmileyClare · 15/12/2020 18:45

Are you buying it to go somewhere Op? It's lovely but at the moment (covid) the only event I can think of is a wedding (guest)? Zoom virtual Christmas party?

SunshineOutdoors · 15/12/2020 18:45

You can wear whatever you want at home! I suggest a big tiara and slippers to accessorise

TruJay · 15/12/2020 18:45

At the moment I’d wear it just to clean the house Grin I would love to get all dressed up, I miss going out.

Personally, I’d wear it to a winter wedding or a fancy Christmas party.

Suzie11111 · 15/12/2020 18:46

@efes that’s interesting! So would you say I could wear if I went on holiday in the evening?

I’m so rubbish at these things. I’m going to feel self conscious no matter where I wear it lol

By the way have you visited the Style and Beauty topic? It's very friendly and they love a post like this

TruJay · 15/12/2020 18:48

It’s funny you say that actually, dsis and I were saying just today that we should get all dressed up for Christmas Day. Order the dress, this year has been shit! Why shouldn’t you wear a beautiful dress you love?

ElizaLaLa · 15/12/2020 18:48

Wearing it on holiday depends where you go.

I wouldn't take it to benidorm.

ElizaLaLa · 15/12/2020 18:49

But yeah, I think I'm going to pull out all the stops on Christmas day. I'm going to wear a petticoat under my dress and everything.

mynameiscalypso · 15/12/2020 18:49

It's a pretty dress but I can't think of a single occasion I'd wear it for and not feel overdressed - maybe a smart winter wedding but even then I'd probably feel it was too much.

StoneofDestiny · 15/12/2020 18:49

I'd say it's a formal evening dress. It's very nice.

Suzie11111 · 15/12/2020 18:49

Lol! Benidorm. Thank you for advice about style and beauty I’ll ask mumsnet to move for me x

Normally, I would probably have said ‘it’s a lovely dress but probably a bit much for Christmas dinner at home’.

But it’s 2020, sod that! Wear whatever makes you happy. It’s not like we’re spending lots of money going out. If it brings you joy, go for it.

SmileyClare · 15/12/2020 18:50

Christmas dinner at home?

Problem one; cooking in it
Problem two; cold?
Problem three; it needs heels
Problem four; the trailing hem would collect bits of wrapping paper and cracker debris

That said, fuck it, if you want to wear it then wear it and put up with the above practical issues.

MilerVino · 15/12/2020 18:50

It's really up to you OP. It is a very formal dress. I'd wear it to posh evening events. I might also wear it at home for christmas, because my family are pretty tolerant and welcoming and would think it was fun. But if you're going to feel self conscious and not enjoy wearing it, then I'd go for something else.

IgiveupallthenamesIwantedareg0 · 15/12/2020 18:52

I'd gladly wear it walking the red carpet on the way to collecting my oscar!

FPS123 · 15/12/2020 18:52

I won’t be going anywhere I’d wear that this year. It’s gorgeous - ballgown-ish. If you’d normally wear a ball gown for Christmas dinner (and I don’t see why not) go for it!

Calmandmeasured1 · 15/12/2020 18:52

It is a beautiful dress but too much for a Christmas lunch at home unless you live at Windsor Castle or Highgrove. Maybe for an evening do as a wedding guest, a posh Christmas party or a cruise.

Suzie11111 · 15/12/2020 18:53

Thank you all! You’ve been so lovely, what kind of posh events would it be suitable for so I can decide if they will ever happen.
