Can someone tell me where this necklace is from?

Name changed.

A few years ago I received this lovely necklace from my sister for a special occasion. Two house moves and two years later, I just can't find it anywhere.

I've looked absolutely everywhere, I ringed some friends I stayed with in the weeks before I last remember seeing it. I travel a lot for work and I have a feeling it was lost during a trip (on the plane, to be exact). During the (long and exhausting) long haul flight back, several items fell from my handbag at one point and I think that's when I lost it...

I was looking through my jewellery today ahead of Christmas and just remembered I don't have it anymore.

Do any of you mumsnetters happen to recognise this necklace and would you be able to tell me where it was bought from?

I know it sounds pathetic but I don't want to ask my sister and tell her I managed to lose it, she would be very hurt Blush I would love to at least know where it came from so in the future I can either a) bite the bullet and tell her, then buy it again myself as it was really lovely, or b) order it next time I'm really drunk and start wearing it again as if nothing ever happened! Grin

Would really appreciate any leads! The box was green and made of some kind of cardboard, nothing too fancy (any leads on the shop? I have no photos of the actual box!), and each side of the stone would shine differently - one yellow/green-ish, the other normal silver. I don't think it was very expensive... £100-200 tops.

Can someone tell me where this necklace is from?

You could ask her, in the way of you wanted to get some matching earrings perhaps....

I very rarely wear or buy any jewellery so that would be a strange question, coming from me... maybe I could say I wanted to get something for a friend? Sad

It looks like opal to me. Did she definitely buy it in the UK? It’s a very simple style so I doubt you’ll be able to identify it unless you ask her where she got it.

I can’t tell what it is from the photo. Is it glass, enamel or a stone?

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 11/12/2020 01:15

Is it shell of some kind, or a glass bead? It looks like the latter to me.

Can’t you just be honest and tell her you lost it and where did she get it from? It’s not like you did it on purpose, surely she won’t be upset with you?
