Charlotte Tilbury- what should I order?

I’m not a massive make-up wearer, but I do foundation, blusher and mascara daily, plus lip balm. I’m feeling really meh about my face at the moment though- I’m 54 and have developed bags under my eyes, and hoods over them. I’d like a basic make up set- concealer, a light foundation (I hate the feeling of being made up), a natural pinky blush and a natural looking lipstick (moisturising).

I’d also like a good moisturiser.

I like the look of the pillow talk lipstick. Are Charlotte Tilbury products good? I googled to see whether they were tested on animals, and they’re not, so if they’re recommended, I’d like to try them. I’m not rich, so don’t want to make a costly mistake!

Really is lovely quality stuff, I’ve not had anything I’m disappointed with.

But, if you don’t like to wear makeup and not keen on spending a lot, just have a think about what it is you like to conceal or highlight about your face and try out cheaper options before you commit to CT?

A good starting point is her instant look palettes - I have this one www.charlottetilbury.com/uk/product/instant-look-in-a-palette-stoned-rose-beauty you get two blush, a bronzer, highlighter, and three shadows.

Pillowtalk lipstick is beautiful and suits all skin tones so that’s a good buy.

CT YouTube channel is great for hints/tips, look at other brands too.

Don’t bother with her creams - way too expensive there are better/cheaper options out there and for foundation/concealer you want to make sure you’re getting the right shade so don’t buy that online

WhatsErFace2020 · 08/12/2020 21:42

Oooohh and sign up to the mailing list - they have really good sales but it sells out quick...always feel like I like the products more when I know I’ve got a bargain 👌😂😅

BillyGroatsChuff · 08/12/2020 21:43

CT light wonder foundation is lovely. Very light and good coverage.
Magic flawless powder is a good finisher
I love the pillow talk lipstick but not a fan of the new pillow talk mascara.
Wonder glow is a good buy as well either on its own or under foundation

Imissmoominmama · 08/12/2020 23:03

The wonder glow appears to be a free gift... I think I will order the light wonder foundation and the lipstick. Thank you! Smile

For bags under your eyes try caffeine serum from The Ordinary.

Imissmoominmama · 09/12/2020 00:03

@DianaT1969- I will try that.

I’ve ordered a foundation, lip gloss, concealer and mascara. I wish I’d remembered to order a pinkish blusher too, but I’ll see how I get on with this lot first.

Thanks all Smile.

Nothing. It’s over-hyped, over-priced rubbish.

They have a great social media marketing operation. Shame that competence does not extend to the products.

HeronLanyon · 09/12/2020 04:48

I just saw the tv ad which was the most bizarre awful thing. I thought it was some kind of satire thing before it sunk in it was a real ad - felt unedited or produced in a rush ??
Never used the products so Apols if this is slightly tangential.

evenmoreforthemoor · 09/12/2020 06:09

The Magic Cream is actually magic. I've tried the night one which is a bit Vaseline-y but the day one is superb. It is pricey but I get through two a year and it's really worth it. I also have the eye cream which is good but I find the magic cream good for this area too.

SimplyRadishing · 09/12/2020 08:51

I bought a mystery box with extras. 10 products total.

The magic cream is nice BUT not worth the $
I legitimately hated everything I got apart from that. Even the mascara!!!

Much prefer mac and Bobbi Brown...

evenmoreforthemoor · 09/12/2020 17:12

I guess this shows how individual a choice is and depends so much on your type of skin. I hate Mac stuff and only use Bobbi Brown make up as their skin care really doesn't suit my skin!

TheChosenTwo · 09/12/2020 17:21

I have liked everything I’ve had from there other than the flawless filter which I didn’t really understand!
Lipsticks are nice (pillowtalk makes me look dead, I have darker skin and I have no idea how it’s supposedly universally flattering, it’s the same tone as my skin!).
I have a couple of foundations from there too and although they need setting, they are a nice light coverage so not mask like.
Love the contour and highlighting wands. I don’t wear eyeshadow but bought a little gold sparkly eye shadow cream pot recently and it’s so pretty and impossible to screw up the application of!

Bananaman123 · 09/12/2020 17:49

Hope you like it op, i came on to say try Nars or Too Faced at that pricepoint as much better in my opinion. I spent a lot of CT and was so underwhelmed, the foundation was orange so went to my fake tan addict niece. Pillow talk lipstick very drying and the eyeshadows very pale and needs a lot of building

Imissmoominmama · 09/12/2020 20:09

Oh bum- looks like I may have made a costly mistake 😕. Oh well, I’m not going out at the moment, so it’s only DH and the kids who’ll see it!

You can return 'lightly used' items.

Which I think is amazing?!

They must then use them as testers?

evenmoreforthemoor · 09/12/2020 20:27

Additionally they may well really suit you!

Imissmoominmama · 09/12/2020 20:53

@evenmoreforthemoor- that’s really good!

I have to say I wasnt impressed with the CT products at all when I went into the Covent Garden store a few years ago.

I prefer foundations by Dior, Lancome, Clarins, Armani and Chanel most of whom also do every other item well too.

FlyingByTheSeatof · 09/12/2020 21:56

OP you'll probably find that CT will be fine on you as you want light and natural looking make up so don't despair by all the comments.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 09/12/2020 22:22

I don’t rate CT at all. I think the marketing is where the budget went rather than the actual products.

Viviennemary · 09/12/2020 22:25

I got the pillow talk lipstick and the pillow talk blusher after reading about them on MN. I took a chance as bought them online. Was very pleased with both.

Othering · 09/12/2020 23:10

The flawless filter is my holy grail product. It makes me look less corpse-like.

BillyGroatsChuff · 11/12/2020 14:27

Hope you can get on with them OP, each to their own with make-up!
I hate MAC stuff.......to me it's thick and gloopy and fake looking.
But yes, you can return stuff just make sure you keep the packaging. They refunded me the pillow talk mascara with no issues

sergeantmajor · 11/12/2020 15:11

I have a CT concealer, the one with the sponge tip. The stuff itself is fine but I can never get the lid off! I stand there huffing and puffing then give up and use foundation instead.

Blahblahblahyadayadayada · 11/12/2020 18:51

I liked the night cream but only have a sample and there is no way would not pay for a full size one. I actually started a thread asking for dupes.

Liked the concealer and lipsticks though.
