Charlotte Tilbury- what should I order?

I’m not a massive make-up wearer, but I do foundation, blusher and mascara daily, plus lip balm. I’m feeling really meh about my face at the moment though- I’m 54 and have developed bags under my eyes, and hoods over them. I’d like a basic make up set- concealer, a light foundation (I hate the feeling of being made up), a natural pinky blush and a natural looking lipstick (moisturising).

I’d also like a good moisturiser.

I like the look of the pillow talk lipstick. Are Charlotte Tilbury products good? I googled to see whether they were tested on animals, and they’re not, so if they’re recommended, I’d like to try them. I’m not rich, so don’t want to make a costly mistake!

I have the Wonderglow primer, and face powder which I like.

I also have the Pillow Talk lipstick, which is fine, but.... brown.

Imissmoominmama · 13/12/2020 16:45

My order arrived. I love the light wonder foundation. I’m less impressed with the concealer- it seems very dry. The mascara is wet and clumpy- I haven’t managed to put it on without getting it on my face yet.

Jury’s out on the lip gloss; I don’t like it as much as my usual Body Shop one, but it’s ok.

I got a free highlighter, which is quite nice. I also got a sample of the night cream, which felt sticky for ages after I’d applied it, so I wasn’t impressed last night. This morning though, my skin was so soft and my under eye bags had gone!

So a mixed review!

Yes I love the night cream, I know it’s like marmite for some. I tend to buy one big pot a year. I put it on a couple of hours before bed as it’s so sticky, like jelly, but I wake up with the plumpest, most hydrated skin ever. I don’t use it every night as it’s obviously very heavy, maybe twice a week.
I don’t like the mascaras either, I was sent a couple of the minis as GWPs and I find them really wet too!

Melange99 · 14/12/2020 12:13

With regard to Pillow Talk, it is often erroneously quoted as suiting everybody. It doesn't. It makes me and a couple of other people look like corpses.

ShouldHaveCouldHaveWouldHave · 14/12/2020 14:39

I really love the Colour Chameleon eye pencil in Bronzed Garnet. I also have Black Diamonds but don’t like that as much. Just doesn’t seem to go as smoothly or last as long. The bronze one I’ve bought quite a few times, shame it runs out so blimmin’ quick.

Deathraystare · 16/12/2020 10:43

Damn you all - you've forced me to order stuff!

thewinehasgonetomyhead · 16/12/2020 13:57

@Deathraystare ditto! What did you go for?

MabelMoo23 · 16/12/2020 19:08

I hate to break it to you OP but Charlotte Tilbury is now owned by Puig (who own Jean Paul Gaultier etc) and Puig sell in China, who test on animals

Charlotte Tilbury is also now removed from the Cruelty free kitty official list of cruelty free brands.

Obviously anything YOU use will not be tested on animals, but then nothing in EU is.

However Charlotte Tilbury as a brand... now they are sold in China and owned by Puig, well that claim is out the window

Imissmoominmama · 16/12/2020 19:49

@MabelMoo23- ah Sad. I won’t be ordering from them again anyway- the products really aren’t that great, other than the foundation, and I’m sure I’ll get an equally good one somewhere else.

A while ago there was a thread about which brands most spammed MN S&B threads and Charlotte Tilbury came out top.
Their social media team weren't being very subtle about it unfortunately.
I now never trust any recommendations I read online about them. Sorry to anyone real who recommends them truthfully and unpaid!!

cherrypie790 · 16/12/2020 19:59

I bought quite a lot of stuff after reading rave reviews on here, and I was so so disappointed. The mascara was unusable - it was wet, lumpy, didn't seem to dry and ended up all over my cheeks. The foundation made my skin react, the only thing I have actually used was the eyeliner. I spent over £150 and my DDs wouldn't touch it either so it went in the bin.

It's poor quality products in high end packaging - like other PPs said, the money goes on advertising and not the actual products. She's a triumph of marketing over substance.

Icenii · 16/12/2020 20:12

I bought the pillow talk four eyeshadow and they look very orange on me. I've been trying them all week. They also feel dry and not very pigmented. Not a makeup buyer so not sure if it is normal. I want nice natural eyeshadow.

Imissmoominmama · 17/12/2020 22:49

I tried it because my son’s girlfriend uses it and loves it. Perhaps I’m too elderly to fully appreciate it Grin.

I previously said I liked the foundation, but I’m finding that my face gets so greasy with it on, that it kind of disappears over the day. It’s a shame because I like the finish. On the other hand, the concealer I didn’t like is growing on me. Now it’s coming out properly, it doesn’t feel dry.

I really like the perfume ! Make up doesn’t agree with my reactive skin . Pillow talk is a good everyday lippie - suits my pink skin tone

upsidedownroundabout · 18/12/2020 16:39

@Imissmoominmama you might want to try their legendary brows product. It's the only thing I like from CT but it really is very good. It's the best brow item I've tried and I've tried a lot. As you get older your brows get more sparse so defining them in a natural looking way can make your face look younger/fresher/just better. Even if you don't go for the CT one, look into other options if you want to pep up your face.

Imissmoominmama · 18/12/2020 19:11

@Charlieandlola- I have Ffern perfume; I absolutely love it (the winter one arrived today).

@upsidedownroundabout- I dye my brows, which seems to help. If I don’t, my face looks like a full moon Grin.

OP posts:
upsidedownroundabout · 18/12/2020 21:05

Oh good, I dye mine too! But I still use the legendary brows to add a bit more definition and thickness, especially when the dye starts to wear off. I recommend it.

I cannot remember! It doesn't say what is coming either but I think it was two eye palettes. One being a greeny gold one. Was supposed to be delivered today at work but trouble is it goes to stores if postman not around.

I am next in work on Tuesdy so will check then and report back!

Deathraystare · 22/12/2020 07:33

thewinehasgonetomyhead and anyone else interested-

I bought Luxury eye palette - The Rebel - looks lovely, shades of green

Bigger brighter eyes palette - seems like the usual beige/brown golds. Must have known when I ordered! Will prob be ok.

Pillowtalk Diamonds - sort of goldy coppery shade??

The classic eye powder pencil shimmering brown

Plus tester sachet of the magic cream and serum.

It arrived yesterday at work but I was not working yesterday so have just opened it.

Will report back!

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 22/12/2020 07:37

I would suggest Bobbi Brown instead.

katienana · 22/12/2020 07:37

The right lipstick can really give your face a lift so I would start there. I really like Charlotte Tilbury I bought one of her blushers in March and its almost gone which is a sign of how I've wanted to wear it daily! Haven't tried the mascara but Estee Lauder Sumptuous is my all time fave. Just got a pair of Shu Umera eyelash curlers and they make a huge difference so I'd try that too.

Deathraystare · 22/12/2020 07:40

Of course i have opened it! I meant I have not had a chance to play with it. Wold look bad doing that at work!

Fallulah · 22/12/2020 08:02

I bought a load during lockdown...

The goddess face cleansers are lovely, particularly the yellow citrus one. Sold out at the moment otherwise I’d be picking up more.

Magic cream - didn’t do anything special. I’ve gone back to the Bodyshop drops of youth.

Eye cream - have loads of this left but not sure what it’s meant to do or if it’s doing it!

Flawless filter - completely not sure what to do with this. Have been using it as a highlighter but in that respect I prefer Benefit moonbeam or similar.

(BTW on the off chance that you are a teacher or know one, you get a 25% discount)
