Most and least used palettes

afaloren · 08/12/2020 10:11

I am often drawn in by new palettes but seem to end up giving them away when I realise I’m not using them. Worst offenders are ‘novelty’ palettes with lots of bright colours, often collaborations with famous people.

My most-used palettes are the Marc Jacobs 720 Glambition eyeshadow palette, a Nip+Fab four blusher palette which I absolutely love and my ride or die holy grail palette, Becca Après Ski Glow face palette. I especially like the blusher and the pink highlighter in that one.

Sorry I meant to add, ‘What are your most and least used palettes?’ Not just splurge my thoughts into the ether Xmas Grin

I've got an Hourglass Ambient Lighting Ghost palette: two blushers, powder, highlighter and two bronzers I use as shadows. It's perfect, has lasted forever, and was a bargain in the sale.

afaloren · 08/12/2020 13:09

Oh that’s a good idea @FrightClub using bronzers as shadows. I always seem to look orange if I bronze no matter what shade I use but I hadn’t thought about putting them on my eyes instead.

This one! I use it every day

afaloren · 08/12/2020 13:21

Ooh that looks nice @whitedove1985 do you find you use all the shades or just a few favourites?

whitedove1985 · 08/12/2020 13:47

@afaloren the only ones I don't tend to use are the shimmer ones but there's literally only a few, I still use them but rarely.
I use every single other one though, it's so versatile as when I go on a night out I just use the darker colours to make it look more smoky.
The colours blend out beautifully! I have so many eyeshadow palettes but always feel like I reach for this one the most! Even my boss said she loves my eyeshadow and she is very plain and actually dislikes make up a lot.
The only con is the brush that comes in the palette, it's awful and stiff, so definitely use your own eye shadow brushes if you consider buying it Smile

Urban decay naked 2 basics. 6 colours, all well-used.

Dior 5 couleurs couture in 649 Nude Dress - very similar to an old Dior palette I have re-bought, again all colours useful

IloveJudgeJudy · 08/12/2020 19:32

I love Fenty Beauty. I have an old Galaxy palette. I haven't bought any newer smaller ones but the colours in the older ones are really intense and have great staying power.

AmethystMoonShine · 08/12/2020 19:53

Urban decay heat for me too, also the honey one, the naked reloaded and naked 3. The pale colour always get used up first though so I use MAC brûlée for my brow bone or base when that happens.

RollneckJumper · 08/12/2020 20:00

Most used.. Urban Decay Naked (original palette). Favourite shade is 'buck'.

Least used.. Huda Beauty Rose Gold - it's just rubbish. Not very pigmented at all. Waste of money, really.

MustardMitt · 08/12/2020 22:01

I don't really wear shadows anymore, but when I do it's mostly from the UD Naked 3 palette. The rosy gold colours just suit me really well.

Worst was a Bobbi Brown one that I thought was going to be a travel-friendly version of Naked 3. The colours looked similar but they were just awful quality - no pay off at all!

Icenii · 08/12/2020 22:05

I was sucked in by Pillow Talk. Looks bright orange on me. I want a nice natural looking one.

CharitySchmarity · 09/12/2020 11:41

Another UD Naked 3 enthusiast here - I've had 2 sets, but it annoys me that it's so expensive and there are a couple of colours in it that I rarely or never use (the whitish highlighter and the gold). There used to be a Collection set called (I think) Nude Rose that cost about £4 and only had 6 colours in it, but covered exactly the same sort of colour range. I've had several and am disappointed that they don't seem to make exactly the same set any more.

I've also had Benefit Big Beautiful Eyes(?) which has similar colours too, but again I was annoyed at the waste - there was the same amount of all the colours, and I used up the neutral base colour quite quickly and was left with loads of the darker browns. My perfect set would be based on the colour range of any of those three, but with lots and lots of one of the lighter pinky browns, and just a bit of the deeper colours.

Bananaman123 · 09/12/2020 18:01

Love my too faced gingerbread (the original) for autumn and winter and peach one for spring and summer. I have sigma cor de rosa and natasha denona bronze still to try but looks like i already own half the shades.

Worst or least fav ABH modern renaissance as bit cool toned for me

PurpleDaisies · 09/12/2020 18:03

I’ve got a lovely Lancôme one with a pale green, a pale cream, khaki and navy in it. It sounds weird but I use it all the time.

Whyohwhydididothat · 09/12/2020 19:27

Favourites;
Original Urban Decay Naked 1, I’m going to be devastated when this runs out. The Naked reloaded doesn’t come close!
Morphe Sunshine Beats, really versatile and the almost holographic yellow glitter is gorgeous.
Iconic Day to Slay, looks really average from online pictures but was really pleasantly surprised when it turned up. There’s not a dud shade in it.

Least favourites;
Too Faced The Natural Nudes, really really disappointing. The shimmers are all patchy. I can’t get it to work at all!
Huda Topaz Obsessions, dry, patchy formula. Colours look really washed out when applied.

XingMing · 09/12/2020 20:10

I like Urban Decay Naked 2 and the Heat palette although I tend to dodge the frosted shades unless for an eye liner smudge. I'm olive skinned with blue eyes, and old too, but these are soft and blendable. The dark copper and aubergine tones are especially useful being not too harsh on ageing skin. .

SoLongFurlough · 09/12/2020 20:35

I really like that Dior one Defiantly is it worth the money?

Darklane · 09/12/2020 22:28

Most used Bobbi Brown Nude on Nude. Five very wearable matt colours with a brush & mirror.

QueenPaws · 09/12/2020 22:32

ABH sultry is probably my most worn
Least is a Huda palette, one of the small ones. Hate the texture
Have about 70 palettes Blush

RollneckJumper · 09/12/2020 23:29

Any of you ladies know of any good tutorial videos or YouTube accounts for applying make up? Particularly interested in eye make up for hooded eyes. TIA

ScienceSensibility · 09/12/2020 23:43

Rollneck I love Emily Noel @emilynoel83 on Twitter. She is a woman in her 30s with a family, but used to be a tv anchor. Very skilled and really nice warm personality.
Gets to the point, and doesn’t use “like” every second word, which is a pet hate of mine from the younger You Tubers.

My best eyeshadow palettes are by Viseart, and I have a few. The quality is sensational and the shadows last all day.

I’ve been disappointed in a lot of the Bobbi Brown palettes lately, the pigmentation and staying power is not as good. I think the brand is on the slide as far as eye products are concerned. Still love the skin care and lip glosses though.

1vandal2 · 09/12/2020 23:56

Blue blood by Jeffree Star i love bright colours

sobsanta · 10/12/2020 00:08

I have a Morphe nine pan palette in various shades of warm browns with two warm gold/purple brown shimmers that I wear daily. It's perfect for a matte slightly contoured natural eye or a more glam neutral Smokey eye.

I bought the Urban Decay Naked Heat palette on a whim in Sephora one day when I was abroad. I've not used it much and it's definitely not one I regularly reach for. The same for the Morphe x Jeffrey Star palette. Some lovely shades and a beautiful gold pressed glitter but it's far too bold for my tastes with the bright oranges, pinks, purples and greens.

I keep being drawn to beautiful palettes before I realise ultimately that warm toned neutrals look best on me. I wish Urban Decay still did the original Naked palette. It's old now but the colours I most use.

Bluebell798 · 10/12/2020 03:01

Have been looking at UD Naked 3 for a while now and might go get it as it seems to be recommended by PPs.
I have quite a few that I love- Kat Von D Shade and Light Glimmer that is so versatile and used all the time, Lime Crime Venus XL, pretty much anything by Juvias Place as gorgeous colours that are super pigmented and apply really well.
Coloured Raine Queen of Hearts is probably one of my most used this year.
