'Winter' trainers to wear with jeans

GreenTuftyFlowers · 06/12/2020 10:15

Hello - looking for nice trainers that can stand up to puddles (so not canvas or mesh) but finding it hard.

The only ones I've found are fugly or glaringly white. The white ones sadly give off a middle-aged tourist vibe with jeans in a woman of my stature (portly) and age (middle-aged).

Used to love Adidas Super Star but they are bloody expensive and the ones I've tried recently come up v narrow.

Need to have thickish/cushioned sole for comfort, and not be narrow. I love grey/green, grey, silver - don't want anything too brightly coloured.

Does such a thing exist?

Same here - they are the holy grail. Waiting with baited breath

gotyerhat · 06/12/2020 10:35

I've had my eye on the All Birds mizzles for this purpose but I haven't seen anyone wear them in real life to get an idea of how they are in person. I've been thinking of some sort of leather high tops so they're waterproof at least and I can wear longer socks underneath but I haven't found anything I love. I usually live in Super Stars, Stan Smiths or Supergas.

GreenTuftyFlowers · 06/12/2020 11:24

The All Birds mizzles do look interesting, bit spendy for me atm though. I wonder if they smell like wet dog when they get wet!

I've got some walking boots which are ancient but comfy - I did order some cheap hi-top black walking boots a couple of weeks back as they were more 'trainery'. Sadly they rub a bit at the back of my calves l so will probably palm them off on dd as she doesn't have weird feet and legs like me.

Clarks Un Maui are sort of along the lines of what I'm looking for (and they aren't as fugly as some of their trainers) but I'm not keen on the colours. Not completely sold on the style either. Also don't really want a white edging Grin

The white edging will probably put you off, but I came on to recommend the Clarks Un Rio which are SO comfortable. Am wearing them a lot this winter.

HappyThursdays · 06/12/2020 11:48

I got some Merrell trainers in a sale somewhere. They are grey and lovely

I like the same colours as you and also need a comfort sole! My sister told me to look at sketchers but I haven't had a chance yet!

I'm joining this thread in the hope of someone recommending the holy grail!

Leather converse hightops?

Leather converse hightops?
Yes. Or Adidas Sleek, they’re leather and come in loads of colours - my latest pair are black/green iridescent. They look like oil on a wet road.

Thanks for this. I've been searching for the same sort of shoe. I've just ordered a pair of Clarks Un Maui. They were £75 on the Clark's own website but I got them for £52 on Amazon.

I saw some superga ones in John Lewis that were nice -but also not sure I like the ultra thick base

www.superga.co.uk/womens-metallics here's some nice metallic colours though

PirateCatQueen · 07/12/2020 00:44

I’ve got the Mizzles, the high top ones, they are brilliant. Kind of look a bit like a cross between a trainer and a desert boot on. Like pillows for your feet.

GreenTuftyFlowers · 07/12/2020 09:06

Thanks for all the suggestions Smile

Got to dash now but will do some searching and hopefully shopping later!

Fit flop silver trainers aren’t the most fashionable but they’re comfortable and weather-appropriate.

This strange but lovely colour are super cheap at Brand Alley but the silver ones are available at various prices in various places.

mizzles are terrific! good support, light and incredibly comfy

Craftycorvid · 28/12/2020 18:04

Converse one star platforms, Adidas Samba Rose platforms, Veja trainers?

goose1964 · 28/12/2020 18:08

I had these in gold, they were worn a lot and took over 18 months to die, I replaced them with some pumas, not a good idea. www.mandmdirect.com/01/details/RH1143/Reebok-Classics-Womens-Classic-Leather-Lilac-Fog-White

Clarityiskey · 28/12/2020 18:14

I like Legero trainers. There are stockists all over UK, but here are some on sale in their on line store. I have a silver pair with thick sole - so comfy!

SuePreem · 28/12/2020 18:27

I know that vejas are ubiquitous, but they would work for you - thick, leather and waterproof.

LunaTheCat · 29/12/2020 08:47

I haven’t tried the mizzles but I wear Allbirds merino trainers in Autumn and Winter and rate them very highly!

ritzbiscuits · 29/12/2020 08:56

I bought these Adidas Terrex shoes half price in the Summer. They are walking shoes but perfect for this time of year if I'm doing the school run, popping to the shops.

Worth shopping around in case they are in the sales anywhere.

PolloDePrimavera · 29/12/2020 09:04

Nike Air Force Ones! Or, with a less chunky sole, Court Royales or Court Boroughs.
I have an ancient pair of metallic New Balance which are all leather and I bought on Brandlley for about £35 and wear them to death.

NeedToKnow101 · 29/12/2020 09:19

I recommend these snow hiking from Decathlon. www.decathlon.co.uk/p/women-s-warm-waterproof-snow-hiking-shoes-sh100-warm-mid/_/R-p-135965

They aren't bulky like most hiking boots. They're slight, light and completely water-proof and mud-proof. I'm in love with them. They're so comfy they don't need thick socks so you can buy them true to size. And less than £25!!

LooseMooseHoose · 29/12/2020 09:23

Ecco often have some nice options if you need comfortable, supportive soles. Beautifully soft leather too.
