Cross between lipstick & tinted lipbalm?

I've hardly ever worn lipstick before, but during lockdown I noticed on zoom that I looked really washed out and pale, so starting using a Berts Bees tinted lipbalm. I had a few nice comments after that about how well I was looking, so now I'm thinking of trying proper lipstick and am looking for recommendations for one that isn't too obvious, maybe half way between the tinted balm and a proper lipstick?

I have the Berts Bees in Red Dahlia, so if anyone's found something that the next level up from that it would be perfect. Bear in mind that I am not good at applying make up as normally just wear mascara, so it needs to be something that doesn't need brushes, lipliner, etc and preferably can be put on without a mirror!

I think what you want is a sheer lipstick. My absolute favourite - Bobbi Brown - has been discontinued. Try looking at Clinique Chubby Sticks

WrinklesShminkles · 05/12/2020 13:54

Glossier Generation G is a matte transparent lipstick which I really like. Bobbi Brown Crushed Lipstick is a similar concept and comes in lots of colours.

THanks @Rainallnight and @WrinklesShminkles I will look at those suggestions. You can tell I am a bit of a beginner when it comes to make up, despite being middle aged! Grin

You want the nars afterglow balm, lots of nice shades
My fave is orgasm

Following with interest, I've just noticed the age of my lipsticks, and I definitely need to restock! (Plus I suddenly feel "overdone" in regular lipstick, and need something like you are describing)
No 7 used to do something like, I must see if they still do.

The only lipstick/lipbalm I own is Frog Prince by Lipstick Queen. Yes it's green!

It's one of those that change colour. Looooove it!! Gives a lovely colour and even when it starts fading in the lips it still looks nice. And I appreciate the ingredients as well, natural oils and waxes, no petroleum jelly.

Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey is a bit of a cult for this sort of look. Not black at all - sort of berry coloured, and looks good on everyone.

Another vote for chubby sticks, still mourning the loss of my coral one in the washing machine (very impressed with our laundry detergent though, no stains left on anything)

LoveBeingAMum555 · 05/12/2020 15:08

I have a couple of Clinique Chubby Sticks but I think they make my lips a bit dry, and the colour doesnt last. Maybe I have unusually dry skin on my lips!

I have heard about the Clinique Almost Lipstick, might treat myself to one when I am not wearing a face mask most of the time out of the house!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 05/12/2020 15:10

I have one from Loccitane, in a yellow tube. Has a kind of balm centre, and a lipstick outer. Not sure if they still do it.

sashamc · 05/12/2020 17:14

I like the No7 lip crayons, I was after just the same thing!

DrDavidBanner · 05/12/2020 17:25

I like the Black Honey lipstick too, I have the Red Dahlia and its a little bit of a deeper colour than that.

www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/burt-s-bees-lip-shimmer-fig-60003092?skuid=003092 is a bit of a deeper colour than the lipbalm and is very moisturising too.

FlyingByTheSeatof · 05/12/2020 17:28

M&S do one called something like lip butter

FlyingByTheSeatof · 05/12/2020 17:31

It's literally just called colour lip balm

NaturalBigDarkBrows · 05/12/2020 17:34

Kiko jelly lipsticks are a very sheer lip colour

babysnowman · 05/12/2020 17:39

I was searching for something like this a few months ago, the best thing I found was Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip Colour. They also do one called Extra Lip Tint if you're looking for something less pigmented.

shouldbedoinglaundry · 05/12/2020 17:43

It isn't really what you asked for but I find the Charlotte Tilbury ones really buildable. I use the pillow talk matte lipstick and if I put lip balm on first then dab the lipstick on gently, I get a really nice 'your lips but better' look. Then I can layer it on more heavily if I want.

BecomeStronger · 05/12/2020 17:45

Bert's Bees do two kinds of tinted lip balm, the one in the standard stubby lip balm tube and a longer thinner one. The thinner one has much more colour, if that's not what you've already got.

Girlintheframe · 05/12/2020 17:47

Benefit are doing a selection of 5 mini lip balms in a pack. All different colours.
Haven't tried them as they are a gift but the look lovely.

MrDarcysMa · 05/12/2020 18:42

Revlon cloudburst lip butters are the best I've tried. they discontinued them for a bit so I bought a stash on amazon but now they are back! ((www.revlon.co.uk/home/revlon-home/products/lips/lipcolor/revlon-colorburst-lip-butter))

AFlatTyre · 05/12/2020 18:45

Dior Lipglow

Lampan · 05/12/2020 18:48

I swear by the Barry M colour changing lipsticks! I have the Lipstick Queen ones too but think the Barry M ones are better. The one that is yellow and goes pink (Unicorn I think) is the most subtle but they are all buildable so you can have a faint wash of colour or apply a few layers to get a bold colour. The best thing is they are not drying and last pretty much all day. Plus they are only about £5.

generallynot · 05/12/2020 21:05

I think I'm tempted by the Clinique black honey, but looking up all the others too.

Clinque black honey is so so so good.
You can get smaller test versions on eBay to try it out at a cheaper price.

tothinkofsomething · 05/12/2020 22:45

I used to have a body shop one translucent lip care ( but I think the product online has the wrong info) or I'd use the tinted rose nivea lip balm.
