Christmas dress? Is this nice or horrible?

I have an idea to get a dress for Christmas Day, something warm/long sleeved that can be worn with thick tights. Not sequins/sparkles, more of a wholesome/Toast-esque look.

Have a low-ish budget and just saw this on Tu - can’t decide if it’s nice or really not...?

Any other ideas very welcome Smile

I actually really like that

Svelteinmydreams · 01/12/2020 14:12

I like it too. It inspired me to look at the Tu website, so thanks 😁

Rainallnight · 01/12/2020 14:12

I really like it and looks like it’ll fit your brief!

rosie1959 · 01/12/2020 14:14

I really like it too

LaurieFairyCake · 01/12/2020 14:20

Also like it - smart too

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 01/12/2020 14:24

You’re not doing the cooking then?! Grin

I would be roasting (Wink) in a corduroy dress. I also think it looks a bit bulky.

Pinklightatnight · 01/12/2020 14:33

Oh nice that people like it. I thought it might be labelled as frumpy Smile

I am not doing the cooking, and tend to feel the cold, so heat’s not an issue. I did wonder about bulkiness...

It would feel a bit drab for me for Christmas to be honest! It just feels a bit plain and dull, but I’m one that will probably be dressing up on Christmas and wearing something sparkly which is exactly what you said you don’t want!

Summerhillsquare · 01/12/2020 15:51

It's lovely, not that christmassy tho.

Plump82 · 01/12/2020 16:05

Oh that's lovely! I wish i left the house more these days to justify buying it!

Pinklightatnight · 01/12/2020 16:08

Ok, here’s another one but please be honest, would I look like Mrs Claus (not necessarily a bad thing Wink)?

I love it! I'm not one for sparkles on Christmas day either. There is also a nice dark red shirt dress on tu that I am considering for Christmas day. Its out of stock in my size though so hopefully I can get hold of it soon.

Pinklightatnight · 01/12/2020 16:18

Ooh I love that dark red Tu one too @MynephewR! Maybe more than the other one. Sold out in my size too, and says it comes up small... not sure whether to risk next size up.

it's cute

AgnesNaismith · 01/12/2020 16:24

Lovely, similar to Hush and with better material...and price!

Teacaketotty · 01/12/2020 16:25

Personally I much prefer the second option - the first looks like something I would wear to work and a bit boring for Christmas Day!

Hayeahnobut · 01/12/2020 16:29

Neither of the links (first pattern very drab, second sack like), but the red one at Tu is lovely. I saw it in store and am gutted I didn't buy it when they had stock.

Kokosrieksts · 01/12/2020 16:37

I like the black one, the red is too weird of a shape.

MikeUniformMike · 01/12/2020 16:39

Was the red one this on tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/p/Dark-Red-Needle-Cord-Tonal-Check-Shirt-Dress/137560818-DarkRed?searchTerm=:newArrivals:colour:Red&searchProduct=?
I like it and the one in the OP.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/12/2020 16:42

I really like the one in the OP.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 01/12/2020 16:48

That dark red Sainsburys dress is much nicer. Don’t like the ASOS one at all.

sugarbum · 01/12/2020 16:52

I would call the brown one 'meh' but then I'm a fan of big and gaudy so I'm not sure you need my opinion!

TenShortStories · 01/12/2020 16:55

The asos one looks less Mrs Claus's dress and more Mrs Claus's nightie to me Blush

The first one is nice though, I'd go for that.

Pinklightatnight · 01/12/2020 17:55

@MikeUniformMike yes that's the one!

Lol at Mrs Claus's nightie... I think much as I like that one I would look like a bright red tent a little swamped in it

@Pinklightatnight thank you for sharing this dress - I’ve just ordered it for work...the thick cord will be perfect for my cold classroom! Not my Christmas Day dress but I’m very happy with it!!
